Take a breath and open your mind, if I asked you “what does love mean to you?”, What comes to your mind? Well, there are multiple forms of love, and ways people perceive it. Many people learn love through how they are taught, how society sees love and, the definition of love. To me love is more than just a four letter word that is overused and vaguely understood.
There are many broad ways love can be defined so people can relate, but sometimes they are not clear. The Webster Dictionary defines love as “strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties” or “attraction based on sexual desire”. Those two definitions may be a similar way love can be based around, but it means so much more. It does not always mean you have a
The first person to make an impact on what love means to me is my Ggma (Great Grandma) she was an amazing person with a huge heart. Having the incapabilities of seeing her very often before she passed away is truly hard for me now. The last two times we were surrounded by family, but she always made time for me and my sister. She always encouraged us and pushed us to do our best while we were with her. I was a overly conscious child, overthinking every detail of what I would do. So struggling with mental blocks in school and in gymnastics was a larger issue for me. I was not brave enough to tumble by myself yet especially on grass, but she never had a chance to see me at the gym. She encouraged me to do it all day telling me about how amazing it was i could do it. When I finally did it seeing how happy and proud she was of me, I remember nothing else that day mattered. The feeling while around her was always so happy and full of life even when she was struggling with
Much of my life, love has been defined by an unexplainable and uncontrollable feeling that burns inside your soul. One that when you look at a person you will just know and the rest will be history. This definition of love I grew up love was also demanding, controlling, dependent, and selfish. But still it was something to be desired and something everyone couldn’t wait to feel. To love
What exactly is love ? For centuries, love has been one of the most talked about topics. It has always been described as being one of the best feelings on earth, and one that many cannot live without. Love is a strong emotion that everyone faces through out their lives. Love can be amazing yet cruel. It can lead to devastation or happiness. Love tends to have many turns.Wars have been waged and fought over love. Love is a strong word often used but never meant. Love affects people emotionally, physically and mentally.
Love is a very inaccurate word, as it can be used in many different ways. It can be used to describe an object which one particularly likes, or to describe ones feelings towards a person. However it does not rest at just these two points. Love for someone can be in a material sense (sexual), or in a more moral sense for example.
Our society uses the term "love" far too lightly. Having been guilty of this offense myself, I admit my guilt. I often say, "I love Mexican food," or, "I love my truck." Love, however, is not just a happy feeling we get when something nice pleases us. Love is a verb. Love is the action of giving yourself totally to one person without expecting anything in return. Love is being willing to put aside your own needs in order to meet the needs of others. Giving up your weekend trip to the beach in order to take care of your sick mother is one example of love. A destitute mother giving up her one piece of bread to feed her sick little boy is another example of love. The ultimate expression of love is being willing to lay down your own life in the place of another. Love is giving, not getting.
When people talk of that one person that is home to them, I think of my grandma. She’s the person I will always feel safe with, the person I can always talk to, and the person that will move hell or high water to make sure that, at the very least, I feel okay. She always supports me and whatever I love doing. She was the person to sign me up for soccer, tae kwon do, and drawing lessons when I was a kid.
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
The definition of love is to have a feeling of strong or constant affection for someone. However, loving someone can also be a tragic, sad, terrible thing. Romeo and Juliet were supposed to be enemies because of the family feud. They were supposed to hate each other. They were supposed to not fall in love with each other. .
The word love is usually misused or misinterpreted. There are numerous meanings and definitions to this overly used word. Not many of them make much sense to me. Love is a feeling of complete bliss. Love is something that can’t be touched or bought, but is something that is much better than money and earthly objects. I can stay here and describe love all day long and still have so much more to say about this word days later. Love isn’t a word that should be used lightly, but usually is. I believe that love is the most commonly used, but most understood word ever known
Love is having compassion for others, sharing feelings and your life with another person, as well as, having faith in others and forgiving those we love for the any errs that they may make. Most of all, we must be committed to those we love. Of course, this is only my opinion. No matter how long I try to explain what love is ultimately it is up to you, the reader, to define what love is to you. So let me leave you now with the words of the great Humanist Erich Fromm, "Can anything be learned about the art of love, except by practicing it?"
Love by definition is an emotion explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God based on the definition found in The Encarta Encyclopedia. As I explored the definition by means of the Internet, books, and articles I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same basic understanding. The definition I found in The Encarta Encyclopedia was probably the most simple and most basic. It refers to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All in which can only be defined by one word and that it love.
Love exists everywhere. There are many different forms of love today: love for relatives, love for a boyfriend/girlfriend, or love for the teacher that rounded up your grade. Oftentimes, love consists of going overboard to prove worthiness or to keep the feeling alive. High School homecoming’s are the perfect time for young boys to go way overboard for girls that they are not even in love with. Ryan, a high school sophomore, is a prime example. Standing on a roof, holding a sign reading, “Clare I’ll jump if you say no to HC,” Ryan asked his friend Clare to homecoming. Clare was presently surprised when she arrived to a party finding her friend on a roof expressing to everyone how badly he wanted to attend homecoming with her. Even though Ryan was very
It's almost like a roller coaster, you can feel on top of the world and then within a nano second you can feel so deeply saddened. There are different levels and versions of love, some love is pure physical attraction, to where people do not click mentally but physically, and are synchronized through sexual appeal. Others, may be complete soulmates by meshing so well together in every possible way that the love is so strong within their mind, body, and soul. Many don't think that love can be felt within teenagers or young kids, that only adults know what "real" love is, but what is "real" love? If everyone has different opinions on the true meaning of it, nobody has a full, clear, and complete understanding on the topic. I asked a various amount of people I knew on a personal level when they first fell in love and how it helped them evolve into the person they are today, or what they took from it. I asked boys and girls ranging from the ages of 13-65, as you can see I gathered a decent amount of experienced lovers. My favorite was a young boy who recently found love, he is 15 and claims his girlfriend has completely altered the way he looks at people and the way he sees the world. He also mentioned how she has made him a better man and he doesn't
Love is actually the choice one makes to put someone's wishes, desires and needs above our own. Many people confuse the word "love" with the meaning of the word "want" or "desire." For example, sometimes when a young man tells the woman of his dreams, "I love you", when he means that he "wants" her because of his own selfish desires. He's the one that may feel all excited over her, but in reality he may want her because of her physical appearance, or because of her mentality or her ability to make him feel good or important. Notice his primary motive for pursuing her is based on himself and his desires; not on pleasing her, although he may choose to please her, but that's only based upon the fulfillment of his wants. The same goes for a young woman, when she says to the man of her dreams, "I love you," she in fact means that she "wants" him because of his physical appearance, status, mentality or his ability to make her feel good or important.
What is love? Everybody who gets asked this question has a different response. Asking a six-year-old girl this question would surely end with a different response than if you asked an old man. There are so many ways to define love, and this has to do with the fact that we can love in different ways. It is one thing to love a spouse, but it is completely different to love a sibling. There is even a slight difference between loving a boyfriend or girlfriend and loving a spouse. The difference is of course small, but it is still there. The fact of the matter is that all love is different. We could develop some sort of love for somebody that we have not even met! However, this is mostly a teenage girl “falling in love” with her favorite member
What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Each human being has his/her own thoughts about love to guide himself/herself to land safely and smoothly into the kingdom of Love. Without this preconceived idea of love, people would be acting like a blind person searching for the light with thousand of obstacles in front of him.
