What exactly is love ? For centuries, love has been one of the most talked about topics. It has always been described as being one of the best feelings on earth, and one that many cannot live without. Love is a strong emotion that everyone faces through out their lives. Love can be amazing yet cruel. It can lead to devastation or happiness. Love tends to have many turns.Wars have been waged and fought over love. Love is a strong word often used but never meant. Love affects people emotionally, physically and mentally.
In Bridget Jones’s Diary, the message Helen Fielding is saying about love is love at times and be blind and focussing more on what’s on the outside rather then the inside. Age also has message in this novel. Not only does it relate to Bridget but to her parents also. Bridget’s parents have been married for 30 years and her mom makes her husband move out, she then starts dating a young guy Julio. Age is no obstacle for finding love in this novel. Bridget is in her thirties and is doing everything wrong. She's trying so hard to have a future with her boss Daniel but he plays with her emotions. In Romeo and Juliet, the message about love Shakespeare is portraying is new love and being ruled by emotions. Romeo and Juliet meet and after that they have fallen madly in love with only saying a few words. At times new love is misleading. ...

In todays world these types of love could related to the world in different ways. In Bridget Jones you have a 30 year old living her life alone. Becoming desperate into finding someone. Trying to change herself so she could date who she believe is the right guy for her. During my high school years I have seen lots of girls doing anything possible for the guy they believe is their “prince charming” realizing in the long run they just hurt them. Bridget having the right guy being pointed out to her and still ignoring it. People become blind when they are in love. Romeo and Juliet can also be related into todays world. You see a lot of cases that parents don't approve of who their son or daughter is dating not necessarily two rival families but sometimes cultural differences of religion. It can cause young adult to risk their lives for their loved ones.
Romeo and Juliet show very vividly that love can be a dangerous influence. Romeo and Juliet are from rival families and have found love. They had put aside their families ancient hatred and fell in love in secrecy which obviously came with consequence. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the author communicates the message that love causes humans to make irrational decisions. We know this because of their decision to get married, Juliet's decision to fake her death, and Romeo and Juliets to end their lives,
Romeo and Juliet is arguably the most famous story about love in literature. This is in part because of the tension caused by the look the different characters have towards what love means and its role in life. These views were very important for the progression of the story. Their different views collided and caused much grief and sorrow for the characters throughout play. Many important events that propelled the story forward would not have happened without the various feelings towards love the characters have and how they felt of and reacted to the other characters’ view on love.
The main example of this is the sad situation of Helena and Demetrius during the early stages of the play. Helena is madly in love with Demetrius and would give her life for just one kind word from him. In this play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, true love plays a huge role in the play. Several relationships begin with true love such as Hermia and Lysander’s and Hypolyta and Thesus’ but some that did not begin with true love, end with true love such as Helena and Demetrius’. Helena and Demetrius, in my perspective, were meant to love each other so that everyone may be able to love each other in harmony.
Love is ironic. It can take you anywhere in the world unexpectedly, and turn you into a person that you never were. However, love is also two-faced, having both a negative and positive view. It is what drives you to the point where you do not know who you are anymore. In Shakespeare's story, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare perceives love with the personalities and actions of the characters, Romeo and Juliet. Both Romeo and Juliet are characterized as immature and irrational due to their "love." In addition, both characters fail to realize the reality of life and go towards the path of adolescence. Even though Romeo and Juliet are doomed at the end of the journey of "love," their demise was caused by their rash and silly decisions because their belief of everlasting love blinds them from reality and shapes their lives into an unstoppable time bomb.
Throughout the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, various types of love are portrayed. According to some of the students of Shakespeare, Shakespeare himself had accumulated wisdom beyond his years in matters pertaining to love (Bloom 89). Undoubtedly, he draws upon this wealth of experience in allowing the audience to see various types of love personified. Shakespeare argues that there are several different types of love, the interchangeable love, the painful love and the love based on appearances, but only true love is worth having.
Young love is a very deep immature feeling, which tends to misguide those affected by it, and the affected ones fall too deeply in love, which leads to a tendency of self-destruction. The concept of the young misguiding love is emphasized in the drama, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet are young when they first see each other and make the mistake of loving each other without knowing their family names. Their deep love without any understanding of the concept of love leads to the young lovers committing suicide, which is a rash decision. They do not embrace their situation, and think about other solutions other than suicide. Romeo and Juliet act on impulse and make rash decisions without thinking about the consequences, which results in self-destruction, because of the burden and the extremity of love.
Love: a small, four-lettered word that oozes with possibility. What is the meaning of love? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines love as “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.” However, can love really be defined? In the short story “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love,” by Raymond Carver, the four main characters discuss just that: what is love?
Society these days builds up a misconception towards what they think is the real meaning of true love or teenage infatuation. In my words, true love is a strong and ever-lasting love which requires sacrifice based on solemn decisions. While, teenage infatuation is teenagers making irresponsible choices made foolishly without the consideration of the consequences they might face. Therefore, in this instance Romeo and Juliet is a play that can define a great example of either true love or teenage infatuation. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare a miraculous writer that foreshadows horrific events, foreshadows the suffering of the “star-cross’d
Many of Shakespeare's plays show a strong theme of love. Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing deal primarily with the issue of true and false love. Romeo and Juliet, tragic play, is about two lovers who struggle, sacrifice, and defy their families and society for the sake of love that changes them completely. Although the end of Romeo and Juliet's story is death both of the lovers, their love turns to be immortal. Much Ado About Nothing, comedy play, is about two lovers who their relationship starts as child like and develops to be true love that motives the lovers to sacrifice in order to keep their love. The two plays deal also with the idea of false love. Romeo, the hero of Romeo and Juliet, thinks that he loves Rosaline, but when he meets Juliet, the heroin of Romeo and Juliet, he falls in love with her, forgetting his love to Rosaline. In Much Ado About Nothing, the relationship between Claudio and Hero's, main characters in the play, is based on wealth and appearance attraction. Conventional love is another kind of that is shown in Romeo and Juliet, where it develops in social situations without any consideration to emotions.
Romeo and Juliet saw love as their idolatry. In which all their decisions came around. Those decisions may not have carefully thought out as it had rendered them dead. Life should revolve around choices created by one’s intellect and not immoderate feelings. The choices created by the heart may lead to a dreary future.
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was a Renaissance poet and playwright who wrote and published the original versions of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language, and often called England’s national poet. Several of his works became extremely well known, thoroughly studied, and enjoyed all over the world. One of Shakespeare’s most prominent plays is titled The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. In this tragedy, the concept that is discussed and portrayed through the characters is love, as they are recognized as being “in love”. The general umbrella of love encompasses various kinds of love such as romantic love, the love of a parent for a child, love of one’s country, and several others. What is common to all love is this: Your own well-being is tied up with that of someone (or something) you love… When love is not present, changes in other people’s well being do not, in general, change your own… Being ‘in love’ infatuation is an intense state that displays similar features: … and finding everyone charming and nice, and thinking they all must sense one’s happiness. At first glance it seems as though Shakespeare advocates the hasty, hormone-driven passion portrayed by the protagonists, Romeo and Juliet; however, when viewed from a more modern, North-American perspective, it seems as though Shakespeare was not in fact endorsing it, but mocking the public’s superficial perception of love. Shakespeare’s criticism of the teens’ young and hasty love is portrayed in various instances of the play, including Romeo’s shallow, flip-flop love for Rosaline then Juliet, and his fights with Juliet’s family. Also, the conseque...
Love is said to be one of the most desired things in life. People long for it, search for it, and crave it. It can come in the form of partners, friends, or just simply family. To some, love is something of a necessity in life, where some would rather turn a cold shoulder to it. Love can be the mixture of passion, need, lust, loyalty, and blood. Love can be extraordinary and breathtaking. Love being held so high can also be dangerous. Love can drive people to numerous mad things with it dangerously so full of craze and passion.
Love is having compassion for others, sharing feelings and your life with another person, as well as, having faith in others and forgiving those we love for the any errs that they may make. Most of all, we must be committed to those we love. Of course, this is only my opinion. No matter how long I try to explain what love is ultimately it is up to you, the reader, to define what love is to you. So let me leave you now with the words of the great Humanist Erich Fromm, "Can anything be learned about the art of love, except by practicing it?"
What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Each human being has his/her own thoughts about love to guide himself/herself to land safely and smoothly into the kingdom of Love. Without this preconceived idea of love, people would be acting like a blind person searching for the light with thousand of obstacles in front of him.
