Many different students apply to colleges all around the country each day. These students go into college having a completely new experience from anything else in their life. They have no idea what to expect and become extremely nervous. The last thing the student would do is try and add more stress such as getting a job their freshmen year. I myself can relate to many of these students with the same mindset of waiting to figure out a job while they are getting settled in college. The major benefit of the work-study program is the tuition assistance a student receives by signing up. Receiving help for tuition is a huge deal for students going to any university. Freshmen students should sign up for the work-study program to better their chances of a more successful future, enjoy making money at a job opportunity closer to campus, and receive lower tuition rates.
Every student that starts college hopes to be successful in school and later in life working an enjoyable job. With the help of a work study-program that goal is reached. As explained by Paul Fain, “Students who participate in federal work-study are more likely to graduate and get a job after college.”(1). Once the student starts working in the work-study program they are surrounded in a very opening environment. The student learns different job responsibilities, which deal with admissions and informing other students about attending the University. With all of the new knowledge students receive from working in the program, they are setting themselves up for a better future. Many students who graduate struggle their first year out of college looking for jobs. They will be more prepared to take on different tasks in their career and also have important life lessons learned from the program. There are many different unanswered questions the student will be faced. The student will also have extremely difficult obstacles to overcome as they face their career. The work-study program is the perfect solution to all of the student’s worries. With working on campus in the program the student better their chances of a more successful future. As the economy evolves and the job market continues to get more competitive, it’s becoming harder to have a successful career without some kind of college degree. It can train me to be properly prepared with a college mindset instead of having that mindset that is still in high school. I can gain a bachelors, possibly a masters, degree as I go to college. Having a bachelors or masters degree gives me not just a sense of accomplishment by making my family proud, but also a feeling of accomplishment of how far I have overcame to reach that degree. But all of this would not happen if it were not for the help of this program that will soon become the backbone of living a better life.

Work-based learning (WBL) as a method for learning is playing an increasing role in professional development and lifelong learning. There are lots of publications/articles available on Work-Based Learning, but the definitions and implementations vary from place to place. A Glass, K Higgins and A McGregor say that ‘Work based learning is any training that relates directly to the requirements of the jobs on offer in your organization’. This is one of the examples of WBL in the form of training. Work-based Learning is used as a terms in USA, for programs for school children to obtain experience from work (“Work-based Learning Guide 2002”). According to (Kathleen A. Paris and Sarah A. Mason) it gives a chance to young people to be prepared for the changeover from school to work and, to learn the realities of work and be prepared to make the right choice of work. In Europe (particularly in England, Scotland, Ireland) and in Australia available commendation is more focused on on-the-job preparation and on academic learning linked to work situations, Degree programs and negotiated learning programs.

Adding to this burden, students of diverse backgrounds cannot afford the costs of education. Under Financial Aid, students can choose to do work study to pay for the expenses if attending college. However, some students do not apply to even get financial aid. There should be a program where student can attend college debt-free by working certain hours a week as the university chooses. The cost of education is not the only barrier since academic success is often difficult to achieve.
