I believe that I should receive the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship because of the dedication and love for stock shows and pigs. In addition, it will help supplement the rising tuition cost to attend Texas Tech University. My family's income relies mainly on my family’s unpredictable financial income. Our income stems mostly from my father, who farms. His earnings fluctuate from year to year due to variables that come naturally with farming. Though he is an extremely hard worker, there are times that his cotton yields are low thanks to weather, pests, and other things that can be detrimental to a crop. Farming requires diligence and a family that works together. Thankfully, I have both. Sometimes, however, no matter how hard he …show more content…
works, his profit does not cover our year’s expenses. Costs that come with equipment, seed, and fertilizer continue to increase while cotton prices have not. This creates a difficult financial situation for my family. I have shown swine for many years and with the desire to improve, my parents have put extra money toward my project.
Because I am a senior, my parents have helped me even more this year in an effort to bring me more success at major livestock shows. Consequently, we have had to spend more money for better quality hogs. I have shown at the Houston Livestock Show, as well as other majors that are far away. We have driven many miles and spent much money toward travel costs. Despite the expenses for these trips, I could never regret going on them because of the lifelong memories I have made in the show barn.
It has been a dream of mine to attend Texas Tech University, thanks mainly to their agriculture program, but I also chose it because it is the closest university to my home, a small farming community around eighty miles from Lubbock. I will be living in a dorm, which creates another financial need. Housing and dining are not cheap, and this scholarship would help lighten this financial load.
I plan to work while I attend college. I believe this is so important because I can help with my living expenses and contribute toward my education. For years, I have been under my parents’ wings, and I would love to help them by financially giving back to them. Working in college will improve my education as well as my family’s finances, and I think that it is crucial. Working will make me want to study more and make better grades and it will prepare me for my
future. A final reason I should be considered for this scholarship is because of my continuous hard work and countless achievements through FFA, as well as stock shows. I have been part of many LDE and CDE FFA teams, and because of my growing work ethic, l had the chance to travel to Indiana for a national competition. I know that I deserve this because of the many hours I have spent promoting and learning about agriculture. Because my dad is a farmer, agriculture is and always will be a huge part of my life. Therefore, I have decided to pursue a career in agriculture and major in Agricultural Communications. This degree plan requires a lot of studying and perseverance, and I am ready to take that on. Therefore, I believe I am the perfect and most deserving recipient for this scholarship.
In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. If i was given this scholarship money it would put me in a place where hopefully I won't become just another statistic. Another reason a college degree is important for me to achieve is so that i will be respected in my work industry of choice. When you are in a place of work, there is always someone who everyone looks up to because they know the most about certain things, but more often than not that person has the highest degree in his or her field. If I was awarded this scholarship i would be more capable of being that person because i would not have to worry about leaving school to figure out how I will pay off my
But many low-income students not only have a full-time course schedule, they also have jobs where they work more than 30 hours per week. Approximately one-quarter of college students’ work while attending school and have both a full course-load and a full-time job (Carnevale, Smith, & Melton, 2015). Working helps students with the living costs as well as tuition and can help students learn skill sets that many employers prefer. However, there are problems with having full-time work while going to college.
The Texas Student Housing scholarship will allow me an opportunity to work towards a clear foundation of my future business – one which I am determined will ameliorate the world. Without this scholarship, much of my efforts will be used towards paying for housing and tuition. However, with this scholarship, I will be able to efficiently allocate my time and resources towards my business, which I hope will help elicit happiness from people in Austin and eventually, countries across the world. As a result, I value this scholarship as a necessity.
I am Hispanic, and I am different. Being different is something in which I take pride in. Therefore I believe that the University of Houston is where I belong. This scholarship will give me the opportunity to study in the place in which I belong while achieving my dreams of becoming a doctor. I was given the opportunity to study elsewhere, but since I heard the University of Houston is ranked second in the nation at diversity; I want to study and achieve my dreams here.
Although college students have to work while in college to pay for tuition, they should not. Working while in college can cause harm to your education. Quentin Fottrell (2013), from MarketWatch, states that, “Nearly four out of five U.S. students… work while in school, survey by Citigroup and Seventeen magazine found, with the average working student putting in 19 hours a week during
College is an expensive investment nowadays, and financial aid is not enough to cover everything that is going to be invested. That is why many college students get a part-time job while attending college. The main reason why students prefer to work a part-time is because they benefit in some important fields, not only with expenses. College students who work part time most likely are to benefit on transportation, time management, and have workplace experience.
This scholarship would help me be able to afford going to college and getting a doctrine in Psychology. Having this scholarship would mean I would not have to take a loan or could take a smaller loan to pay for collage. Loans, especially school loans, have caused many individuals to be in debt. I do not want to graduate college and already have an enormous amount of debt to try and pay off. Collage is expensive especially for a one income family. My mother has no savings at all and barely makes ends meet each mother. This year she had to file bankruptcy so she did not lose the house. There is no possible way she could help me with college. Getting this scholarship would lessen my mothers worries and give me peace at mind knowing my education is payed for and debt is not looming at my door.
“Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination,” is stated by Drake. The journey maybe over but the destination is beautiful. Through this experience I have grow not only as a person but also a little muscle. The journey began that March 10th night and it ends at my county fair this April. Without the help of my sponsors, this journey would not have been possible.
I have been working for Troy ISD in the Technology Department since December 2015 to earn money for college and have created my own business to repair technology components. With the reality my parents are not going to be able to pay for my college education, I fully expect to work while I attend Texas A&M to pay my expenses. I would really appreciate any scholarship I can receive to help me make my dream come true to be an Aggie and to receive a degree from Texas
Having a job has many benefits. One of these benefits is obvious, earning an income. With an income comes responsibility. When a student becomes an adult, he or she has to learn to depend on their own income, and there is nothing they can do to prepare themselves for that except to begin to get a feel for the responsibilities earning an income brings. Students can gain experience by working through high school. This brings the opportunity to learn how to budget money, which is a vital part of being independent. Budgeting takes a lot of self-discipline and trial and error, but is possible to learn. It is also important for students to start making purchases that result in monthly payments, such as cell phone or car payments. Not only does this give...
It is very common that many high school students hold part time jobs while going to school. When these teens work, they are able to learn and experience life lessons from ethical and moral work. Knowing that school is aways and should be a priority, students should work while in high school because working helps students be more responsible with their lives, help them practice time managment, and also helps students see and experience the real world.
College can be a fun and exciting part of your life. But fun and excitement usually cost money. You have to pay for movie tickets, the late runs to Taco Bell, snacks, soda, and all the extras you want to decorate your new place with. Money is hard to come by in college. You spend most of your day in classes and if your parents have decided to not give you lots of money, you spend most nights working part-time. Working while attending school is not fun at all. It leaves you with little time to study or get homework done. And the little time you have is usually in the early hours of the morning, depending on how late you stay up. But you have to work in order to buy the things you want and to be able to eat out instead of eating the dorm food (which is surprising just as bad as high school lunch).
Not only is Texas A&M a more expensive college, this scholarship will ease the financial burden of college and will help me to continue my education while taking on as little debt as possible. Being successful is something that I have always wanted, and without being able to pay for college or be drowning in debt, I would not be able to get a good job or be able to support a family. I have already put in countless hours of long nights and late study sessions to do my best in school. Continuing my education will validate my hard work and make college an even more rewarding experience. With my education, I want to be a petroleum engineer, who can make a difference and change the oil is collected and refined. This will give me the opportunity
No matter how long it takes, the amount of money it takes, I hope to complete my family’s dream of having a stable career. With this scholarship, if I can receive it, it will bring me one step closer. I may be able to fufill my educational goal and finally entering university and graduating and achieve my career aspirations in the whatever field I chose. I have the chance to make my family’s dream turn into a reality.
Nowadays, the numbers of students who are always looking for a part time job while they are attending college is increasing every day. According to an article was published in 1998 on The Futurist, the number of students who have a part-time job increased from 5% of students in the 1950s to almost 70% of the students in some communities (“Jobs hurt school performance” n. page). Because of a bunch of fee and cost that students have to handle, working during college seems to be a necessity than an option. The part-time jobs provide not only paychecks but also experience, skills for the students. It is very helpful for the students after they graduate college and look for a real job. Although there are some people who argue that having a job during
