The different values between Chinese families and American families Chinese families and American families have a big impact in their child’s life. Chinese families as well as American families’ value education. The reason why American families believe education is important for their kids because he or she as the “parent” is responsible for their child education. “Researchers” have understood that “parents” “involvement” with their child help their children to do better in schools and throughout their life’s. For example, it takes a village to raise a child that saying is so true because people like families, friends and the community play a big part in a child life. American families like what money can get them, namely American families at times want the lavish life, so they think that they are rich. Meanwhile, American families work hard to provide for their families. Due to the high cost of children’s education, parents take out loans to pay for bills and emergencies, if the family does not have enough money. American families spend money on things they really do not need. Even though Chinese families view money in a positive way they know the value of money because they use it wisely. Mainly, Chinese families use the money to buy necessities for their family. For example, they buy important things for the household like groceries, appliance and so on. Chinese families also help other family members that need help financially. When Chinese families help each other out it helps them budget their money. Chinese families do not spend money they like to budget their money and save money for a rainy day. Most cultures like china sometimes really do not have to think about money because most get help from their family and some Chinese families know how to practice good money
It is true that every mothers and fathers strive to give their children the finest development of knowledge so that it supports them blossom in their career. Two writers who have opposing views based on the parenting techniques of children are Amy Chua, in her article “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior?” and David Brooks, in his article “Amy Chua is a Wimp.” Both of them have similarities and differences in bias in their article; there are differences in their tone and the way which they utilize evidences, but both of them depend heavily on evidence to prove their points.
The parents as the role models for their children that means many children will do what their parents mostly do, hence, is really important that the parents teaching their child. However, the research find out that the parents with higher socioeconomic states are more involved in their kids’ schooling (Chu et all, 1996) The reason seems obvious to me due to the importance of parents’ education, if the parents having more school, than parents could be like a ‘coach’ for their kids, that parents could guide the road of succeed. Also, the parents with higher education might provide a favorable environment since is easier to get a steady job with higher education. According to Kean, (2005), the parents with higher education have positive influence on children’s outcome, cause the majority of parents who are very educated might influence their kids though beliefs and behaviors, that will lead children and youth to a positive outcome (Kean, 2005). Parents’ educations have an influence on children in many different ways, although the parents’ expectation can affect children as well. Whether it is Chinese parenting or Western parenting the relationship between family members is crucial. According to Amy Chua, Chinese parenting is more effective in helping the child attain a better future through the parents’ interests, while Western parenting style reflects mainly the interests of the child.

For them, a generational problem develops over time, and cultural displacement occurs as family lines expand. While this is not the problem in and of itself, indeed, it is natural for current culture to gain foothold over distant culture, it serves as the backdrop for the disorientation that occurs between generations. The Chinese mothers are faced with a difficult task of how to raise their American-born daughters with an understanding of their heritage. The mothers wanted their daughter to follow the Chinese traditions, but the daughters followed the American traditions and even some of them got married to American men. The mothers tried to tell their daughters the story about the Chinese ancestors but the daughter could not follow them and the daughters thought their mothers were backwards and did not know what they are saying. As much as the mothers tried to show love to their daughters, the daughters usually responded negatively. They often saw their mothers’ attempts to guidance as a failure to understand the American culture. Being Chinese and living in America, both the mothers and the daughters struggle with many issues like identity, language, translation, and others.
