Recently, I readied the book called “The other Wes Moore”, the book is about two boys both raised by their single mother but raised up in two totally different environment, cause they went to two complete different schools, one went to a public school where most of the kids went there are poor and has a lot of problems; the other one went to a private school which is really nice most of b his peers are excellent. Their mother has totally different personality education levels and expectation to their children, one graduate from a community collage and the other one graduate from a famous four collage. Poverty has many influences on children under the age of 16. The research fined out that in recent year, an increasing number of children become poor, live under the poverty condition- childhood poverty lasted 10 years or more. So, what does the poverty exactly mean to children? According to Brook-Gunn and Duncan, The kids who live in the poverty condition have the low quality of schools; more likely to have domestic violence and become homeless; less access to friends, services, etc. (Brooks-Gunn et all, 1997) That points out the disadvantage and how the family income influence youngsters overall childhood, since under the poverty condition, they children do not have enough money to support for their necessary needs, they will more likely to have low self-confidence and hard to blend in with their peers. Poverty has impact on children’s achievement in several different ways. Payne (2003) maintained that the poverty could affect children achievement though emotional, mental, financial, and role models (Payne, 2003). Thus, the children from low-income family are more likely to have self-destructive behavior, lack of control emotional response and lack of necessary intellectual, that is really important for the students under the age of 16. The parents as the role models for their children that means many children will do what their parents mostly do, hence, is really important that the parents teaching their child. However, the research find out that the parents with higher socioeconomic states are more involved in their kids’ schooling (Chu et all, 1996) The reason seems obvious to me due to the importance of parents’ education, if the parents having more school, than parents could be like a ‘coach’ for their kids, that parents could guide the road of succeed. In my opinion, people should take the blame for our own mistakes. Our parents raised us but we make our own choices. Our parents may have raised us but it’s our responsibility to make the right choice. As we come into adulthood, we must learn to take responsibility for our actions and accept the consequences that follow. We must deal with our consequences and avoid putting the blame on others. In the book, The Other Wes Moore, Inmate Wes’s mother tried several different things to keep him away from drugs and drug dealing.
