As I reviewed several of my peers’ effective leaders’ principles, I decided to illuminate two main themes that were consistent throughout the principles to be an effective leader. The very first that theme is ‘security’, when a leader is emotionally healthy, secure in who they are, and confident in their abilities, it helps to provide a stable environment for everyone else. Several leaders, including Albert Einstein, expressed the importance of a leader’s character and security. Einstein’s states, ‘Most people say that intellect makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character’, meaning being a well-rounded individual makes for the best leaders. Similarly Derek Jeter states, to not be afraid to fail. As a leader many decisions and responsibilities fall upon you. With those many decisions and responsibilities, mistakes can sometimes be made; however, mistakes and failures are actually the laying foundation for the understandings that will create new levels of living and security that one will enjoy. Oprah Winfrey principle to refuse failure, ‘Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness’. A secure leader builds on failures understanding that it is only a temporary change in direction to set them straight for their next success. When one is secure in their position as a leader it builds their character from within. Lynn Vickers expresses that there is no one who’s been successful that hasn’t failed. The second theme is guidance. Majority of leaders addressed the need of receiving direction in life from leaders to be an effective leader.
