Donald Trump and Michael Cohen have known each other quite a few years. Before Cohen met and knew Trump, he was a simple man. He grew up in an upper-middle-class town on Long Island. He went to school at a yeshiva day school. He described himself as an “agonistic Jew.” He dated a Ukrainian émigré Laura Shusterman in his teenage years. Through her, he became friend with Russians and Ukrainians. He even learned to speak Russian. He later on married Laura after her father pleaded guilty on fraud charges the year before. One of his new friends among the Russians was Felix Sater, who would later on help Trump and Cohen develop Trump-branded real estates in Russia and elsewhere. Cohen became involved in politics as a Democrat by volunteering for the Michael Dukakis presidential campaign then as a Republican that lost the bid for city council. Another thing on Cohen’s mind was making money. Trump became his role model after reading his book. That’s where his admiration for Trump started. Soon after, he invested in a taxi business with Simon Garber where he …show more content…
started earning the big bucks. He did say that he didn’t invest in any of Garber’s Russian businesses. He also invested in a casino boat with two Ukrainian emigres but they lost the boat to foreclosure. That’s where he discovered investing in Trump property was more secure. He bought his first Trump property for 1 million dollars and tripled his spending sixteen years later. He bought another property but this one was one of the more expensive Trump property. Trump and Cohen met in the late 90’s and he did some legal work for Trump.
That’s what made their bond start and grow strong. There was a dispute at the Trump World Tower and Cohen took care of that for Trump. He then gained a lot of respect for Trump after that. Trump then hired Cohen as a special counsel and executive vice president for the Trump organization. Cohen handled all problems for his boss. He tended to use the tough guy language tactic that his boss used. They did side deals together. Cohen took his real estate investments beyond Trump properties. He made extensive profits through the teaching skills from Trump. He did licensing deals and selling Trump’s name to international developers. Most of the projects did not go through. These international deals did catch attention of special counsel Mueller who is currently investigating possible collusion between Trump’s presidential campaign and
Russia. When Trump’s campaigning came about, Cohen did receive an email from Sater who wrote saying he could get Putin to get a deal for Trump tower in Moscow and that Putin could help Trump. Later on, the Moscow project did not go through. He defended it saying that it was just a real estate deal and nothing else. It was under question due to Mueller looking over Trump’s Russia contacts and the allegation that Trump did meet with the Russians prior to his presidency. Cohen did push trump to run for president. Trump didn’t really want to run but Cohen kept pushing him to. In 2016, trump changed his mind and ran for president. Cohen did protect his boss from all who wanted to attack him throughout his presidential campaign. He paid off Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about her and Trump’s affair. He didn’t use the campaign money but he did use his own money. Cohen left the Trump organization and became Trump’s personal attorney. All of Cohen’s financial deals are falling through and he is under investigation. At the time of this article, Cohen’s offices and residences were raided by the FBI. He did tweet he will always protect the POTUS.
George W. Plunkitt of Tammany Hall may have been one of the most arrogant & intelligent men of his time, he saw his opportunities when they arose and he took them as soon as he possibly could. Not only did he make a huge fortune but he made it using, what he called, "honest graft". With this sentence in the first chapter,"Everybody is talkin' these days about Tammany men growin' rich on graft, but nobody thinks of drawin' the distinction between honest graft and dishonest graft." Plunkitt sets the tone for his short treatise on New York City politics while Tammany Hall ran the show. George W. Plunkitt was a senator in New York at the turn of the 19th Century to the 20th Century. He was very successful in politics, and at one time he held four offices at once and collected salaries from three of them. G. W. Plunkitt securely held one and possibly other offices in Tammany Hall for over forty years. He was somewhat of a shady politician who took care of his constituents and his bank account. Plunkitt was never shy about becoming rich in politics because he did nothing illegal by the standards of the time. Moreover, Plunkitt never broke the penal code and therefore never spent a day in jail.
Time changes a lot of things, but somehow it didn’t change the way these two men viewed the world. Bill Clinton and RFK (Robert F Kennedy) both delivered speeches after tragic events. Some of the things they said in their speeches were truly inspiring, and they wanted to make sure that their country was alright after a tragic event. Both of their speeches shared a lot of common purposes that helped the nation cope with a devastating event.
After graduation he spent a few years in the Marine Corps, but then settled down to practicing law. He soon became involved in politics, and was particularly enthralled with campaign managing, as he had dabbled in it while still in Law school. In 1969, Chuck Colson was appointed Special Counsel to President Nixon (Wikipedia 2013). During his time in the White House, he became known as the “hatchet man” because he did whatever it took to accomplish what the president wanted. In 1973 he resigned just after Nixon was elected for his second term, and was planning on returning to his law practice.
Indeed, when it came time for Nixon to back a nominee in 1948, his support went to the more centrist Thomas E. Dewey, and not to the conservative Taft. Kennedy decided to go into politics mainly because of the influence of his father. Joe Kennedy, Jr. was killed in the European arena of World War II and so the political ambitions of the family got placed on the shoulders of John. Nixon, however, got involved in politics by chance. While celebrating the end of the war in New York, he received a telegram from an old family friend indicating that they needed someone to run against the Democrat Jerry Voorhis.
Another very important factor was Nixon’s previous experience in politics. After graduating from Duke University, Nixon joined the navy during World War II. After returning from the war Nixon jumped right into politics. He answered a Republican Party call in the newspaper. They were looking for someone to run against the five-term Democratic Congressman Jerry Voorhis. John Ehrlichman once said of Richard Nixon, “He is like a race horse specially trained to run a particular race and no good for pulling wagons. He’s for running the race to be president, and that’s what he lived for (Matusow 1).” That just gives you an idea about Nixon’s attitude. He would do whatever it took in order to win. The style of Nixon’s first campaign for congressman set the tone for the early part of his political career. An example would be that while running against Voorhis he accused him of being a communist. He even had campaign workers make calls to voter...
Donald Trump, the current President of the United States, is a villain at heart. Due to his lack of empathy, his greed for power, and because President Trump is immoral which are all characteristics of a villain. The production of oil and steel in the late 19th century, gave the United States its start into becoming an industrial power. Andrew Carnegie was responsible for the steel industry, while John D. Rockefeller started the standard oil company. They each conquered the industry they were in and took over their completion.
