I am so busy with the hustle and bustle of life, that I forget to focus on what matters most; my health. I support my family, but realize that I only have my spouse to lean on. I am working on building a support system that is more focused on me. I understand now the benefits of healthy lifestyles more than what I thought. I know that it takes more than a quick fix to make lifestyle changes. Even though they are not an easy accomplishment, they are worth it in the end. My barriers to adapt to a healthier lifestyle include time management. Time management is a skill that I work on every day. I work full time, take classes full time, am a mother and a wife. I realize that there are only so many hours in a day, but crave rest and relaxation. This impacts my self-efficiency. Even though I can plan and prepare in my head, it is hard to put into action. There are many physiological and psychological health benefits by leading a healthy lifestyle. Overall, I am pleased with the changes that I have made to my diet, and plan to continue working towards my goals. In order to accomplish my goals in the future, I will try to slowly increase my fruit, vegetable, and whole grain consumption. Another goal that I need to work on will be to slowly limit the amount of meat products that I consume. Incorporating these changes will help me to accomplish my goals of increasing my calories and decreasing my protein intake to the recommended values set by the Dietary Reference intakes. As long as I can continue to practice these healthier ways of eating, I am sure to have a longer and healthier life and decrease my risks of chronic diseases as I age.

Wellness is imperative to a healthy life. Sometimes, people do not really consider what makes up wellness, they simply think of it as being “well”. Wellness may be a state of being “well”, however, it incorporates different areas such as nutrition, health, safety, nurturing, and emotional stability. People must be healthy in all of these areas in order to achieve wellness. This is not an easy task for an adult, but definitely not for children.
I was tired of being overweight, feeling tired all the time, and I wanted to get my confidence back, I knew in order to do that I would have to make a lifestyle change. I had no prior knowledge of health and nutrition, so I wanted to increase my knowledge of the basic areas of health and wellness to implement in my daily lifestyle. My hope was to create a strategy that could be implemented in my daily life that could give me a solid base for starting my weight loss
Lucky for me, I finally learned how to be healthy. It took longer than I would’ve liked but I don’t regret my journey. Learning what being healthy means made me the person I am today.
The second dimension of wellness is emotional wellness, which has a lot to do with you ability to recognize your own thoughts and feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. While I was tracking my eating for these three days, I began to learn about the benefits of the food that I am eating and the nourishment that they provide for my body. I had never realized how big of a role that the food that I eat plays in my everyday life. Eating has never been something that I really think about it is just something that I do. After I looking at the data of what I eat on Choose My Plate, I realized that my eating habits are far from balanced and that I needed to work on bringing my eating habits to a better balance.
