How My Local Courthouse Shapes My Perspective In Life Nestled in the heart of Fort Dodge, Iowa, the Webster County Courthouse stands as a testament to the history and resilience of the community. This majestic structure, with its towering clock tower and ornate architectural details, has not only served as a hub of judicial activity but has also profoundly shaped my perspectives and worldview. In this essay, I will explore how this location has influenced my personality, my views on the world, and my approach to writing. Influence on Personality and Perspectives Spending time around the courthouse, I often observed the interactions between people—lawyers, judges, defendants, and ordinary citizens. These observations highlighted the complexities of human nature and the diverse experiences that shape individuals. I began to understand the importance of empathy and the need to consider multiple perspectives before forming judgments. This understanding has been crucial in shaping my personality, making me more open-minded and compassionate. The courthouse also taught me the value of perseverance and resilience. Witnessing the determination of those seeking justice, often in the face of significant challenges, inspired me to approach my own life with a similar mindset. It reinforced the idea that setbacks are a part of the journey, and that persistence is key to overcoming …show more content…
Meaningful Connections Between Webster County Courthouse and Required Readings The Webster County Courthouse has profoundly shaped my perspectives and writing, much like the significant places explored in the readings we have studied. Each of these readings demonstrates how specific locations can influence individuals' worldviews and creative expressions, similar to my experiences with the courthouse. In "Mill Avenue Bridge" by Shannon Maki, the bridge serves as a metaphor for the connections between people and the passage of time. Maki’s reflections on the bridge resonate with my feelings about the courthouse. Just as the bridge connects different parts of the city and different phases of life, the courthouse connects various facets of the community and serves as a landmark of continuity and change. This parallel enhances my understanding of how a place can be a central figure in our lives, influencing our interactions and
...d community history, comedy, and a series of tragedies, all of which result in history at its finest”, provide an overview of the interesting stories Michael Perry has to share in his book (Dwyer 52). Overall, Dwyer’s review goes far beyond summarizing Population 485, but rather describes Perry’s true love for his town, which makes his book such a huge success.
"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" is a story of illusion, decision, and fate. It presents one with a very powerful scenario - one that questions the protagonist 's ultimate destiny, and the concept of good vs. evil. It defines the grey area of deeds by which most humans live, and uses powerful thematic concepts and devices to convey the author 's own value while leaving some space for the reader to make their own choice. Furthermore, this story discusses the life of a man who ended up on the wrong side of history, humanizing yet criminalizing him for his beliefs. This can all be attributed to a wide array of symbols and interactions- all which support the theme of illusion vs. reality. The complex thematic value of this piece stems from multiple aspects – the most important of which are the bridge through both its literal and symbolic meaning, the colour grey in all its depth and broad variations, the essence of time in all of its distortion, and the story 's style of writing.
With his lucid writing style, Ted Kooser uses his Midwestern background to create thoughtful and honest poetry that reflects the values of his home. Three of his poems, “Abandoned Farmhouse”, “The Early Bird”, and “So This Is Nebraska” each demonstrate his unique writing style. Kooser chooses to make his poetry accessible for readers, even those with little to no prior knowledge in analyzing poetry, writing on topics of the mundane and those relatable to his audience. And while this has garnered some criticism, Ted Kooser has become one of the greats in American poetry.
When we arrived at the location, we struggled to make sure we were parking in the correct location. The sign at the nearest parking lot said the parking was for “court business”. We weren’t sure what “business” was defined as. To ensure we were in the correct place we called the courthouse for confirmation. Walking into the courthouse was intimidating. There were two security guards

The gist of my analytical research derives from from a chapter out of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a story that was written by Mark Twain in 1884. The story is one that still resonates with readers today, as Twain unravels the protagonist’s character throughout the story in order to grasp the reader’s attention. In fact, the story’s meaning goes beneath the surface. The possibility of someone being able to do a complete 180 turn in personality may seem improbable to many. Nevertheless, Huckleberry Finn is able to do just that.
The courtroom is a place where cases are heard and deliberated as evidence is produced to prove whether the accused person is innocent or guilty. Different courtroom varies depending on the hierarchy and the type of cases, they deliberate upon in the courtroom. In the United States, the courts are closely interlinked through a hierarchical system at either the state or the federal level. Therefore, the court must have jurisdiction before it takes upon a case, deliberate, and come up with a judgment on it. The criminal case is different from the civil cases, especially when it comes to the court layout. In this essay, I will explain how I experienced a courtroom visit and the important issues are learnt from the visit.
As a college student I am faced with many situations throughout my daily life, while I believed I maintain a certain consistent personality through the process of this paper I was able to identify how my personality differed or stayed the same based on situations I was in. Through the course of this study, I was able to identify when five of what I feel are my most prominent personality traits were most prevalent and how they changed depending on the situation. The five personality traits I chose were humorous, imaginative, sarcastic, optimistic, and helpful. The situations I choose to look at were me in class, at work, with a friend, with family, and when I was alone studying.
Personality is essentially the culmination of the characteristics that make up an individual and that make the individual unique. Personality influences things such as a personas behavior and who that persona interacts with and how the interactions occur. After studying different personalities and reading the play 12 Angry Men I have a better understanding of myself and those around me. This brought me the realization that my close friends and I have very different personalities due to this we all have different outlooks on the world and different ways of responding to the occurrences of the outside world. Although we have these differences I have also noticed that we have a substantial amount of similarities such as our moral standards and for most of us the belief in achieving great things through hard work. All this aside, I have noticed that it is often times difficult for us to make group decisions when we want to go out and have fun. These decisions generally include where we are going, what time we will be going and what we will be doing. In a like manner, the jurors in 12 Angry Men seem to have a similar problem. However, their problem is more difficult especially considering the fact that they don’t know their individual personalities and their decision will ultimately decides whether a person lives or dies.
Personality can affect many things in a person’s life. This includes how a person will react to a situation. One can attribute different personality traits to different dispositional or learning theories, such as linking the dehumanizing of a victim to social cognitive theory. One can make an association between interpersonal relational aspects and some of these theories. Personality is an aspect of the self that people often think about but most never truly contemplate the meaning or depth of personality.
Over the course of an individual’s life there are many traits acquired which are things that contribute to the way he or she interacts with others, overall these traits help with the development of one’s personality. Character traits or qualities make up a person, whether it's their personality or attitude or the way they portray themselves to others. Every person individually possess traits and qualities that not only describe, but define them making every person different. Many of the admirable traits that I possess make me the man that I am today, contributing to my interactions with others and the career path I intend to pursue. Throughout my life, many events have revealed my true character traits which include determination, optimism, and faith.
The concept of personality has numerous definitions (Fatahi, Moradi, & Kashani-Vahid, 2016). Schultz and Schultz (2009), define personality in its broad sense as the manner of an individual’s behaviour in different situations. This essay explores the nature of personality, with the intention of highlighting its flexibility. The results of numerous empirical research studies are examined in order to investigate if, and how personality changes over time. It will be argued that an individual’s personality has the ability to change throughout their life.
In application, I needed to understand my personal behaviors, tendencies, and those of others in my organization so I can better interact and serve others (Fischer, 2006, p. 1). For instance, although I let things brew to gather facts before applying a logical decision, some people use a quicker decision process (Nutt, 1986, p. 358). Additionally, I am optimistic and a realist concerning workplace diversity as I view it as practical and useful to understand and collaborate with others (Pearson Education, 2016, I.B.4). While others may not share my same beliefs, I acknowledge that an organization consists of unique people who bring their own values, personal beliefs, lifestyle preferences, and behaviors into the workplace (Fischer, 2006, p. 3; Pearson Education, 2016, I.B.4; Robbins & Judge, 2009, p. 23). Knowing that people have different personality traits, one key takeaway for me is an emphasis on understanding and using the information discovered from my personality test so that I can have a greater impact on subordinates, peers, and the organization I lead (Robbins & Judge, 2009, p.
