Water Dehydration Essay

Humans use water on a daily basis, in everything from drinking, to cleaning, and for recreational uses in pools or waterparks. But the human body itself is the main contester in how it is used. Water is a dissolving essential in vitamins and nutrients for food and for delivering them to cells. Our bodies also use water to flush out toxins, regulate body temperature, and aid our metabolism. The human body is 50-75 percent water, and when that water is lost in digestion or sweat, it needs to be replenished to continue functioning. Dehydration is a common problem the human body faces, but too much water can also cause a great deal of complications. Water intoxication and hyponatremia, which is when electrolytes become diluted, can cause all types of symptoms, from minor muscle cramps to seizures. Athletes experience this frequently, as well as babies under six months because of their low body mass. Too much water can increase the body’s total blood volume, which puts an extra and unnecessary strain on the heart and blood vessels. The circulatory system becomes diluted with the extra water, so the electrolyte levels drop. This causes the water to seep into cells from the blood, which makes the cells expand, possibly in the brain. Kidneys must also work harder to filter all the excess water. The dilemma of not enough water is much more frequent, and can also cause numerous problems. Lung functions can use up to a pint of water every day, so when that liquid isn't replaced, it makes it difficult to breathe. People who don't drink enough fluids can also gain excess body fat, have poor muscle tone, and have a harder time digesting food. Water has many strange properties that go against normal scientific thinking, in its different states ... ... middle of paper ... ...ed to clean much more effectively. Soft water is much gentler, but it can be criticized as being too “soft”. One is not particularly safer than the other, and it all comes down to a matter of opinion over which one should be used in the household. The reason behind water bottle expiration dates lies in the fact that the water itself has not gone bad, but the bottle itself, as it will eventually start leaking chemicals into the water. The water sources behind bottled water can be identified from its name, like how “spring” means that the water was derived from an underground formation flowing naturally to the Earth’s surface, and it was collected at the spring or through tapping underground. Names including ‘artesian’, ‘distilled’, ‘mineral’, and ‘purified’, all guarantee the buyer that the water is either naturally safe or has been purified by the manufactures.
