While much of the rest of the world begins its transition into the festive Christmas and New Year holiday seasons, one wonders what a relatively smaller community such a Aurora, ON has to offer. Well, the answer is simply, a great deal.
Let's look at how this community enters into the true spirit of giving at this time of year.
Beginning In November
Having started the holiday season earlier in November, various civic groups, organizations and religiously affiliated communities provide several events open to the public. Not only do these events inspire residents and visitors alike to give more, they infuse those participating with reasons to continue giving all throughout the rest of year as well.
Below are several of our choices for best

Cheerfully set up with local merchant huts and kiosks, you'll find myriads of appropriate gifts at the annual bazaar event.
Displaying large selections of handcrafted wares, the bazaar also features antique collectibles, hand-fashioned jewelry, gayly decorated hand-knits and quilts, plants, toys, books, clothing and a auction. Naturally, a food court in the lunchroom and bake table sale follows as all proceeds benefit the church and its many outreaches into the community. There is a nominal admission to the bazaar for adults set at $1.
Normally, the local event begins on the last week of Nov. 28 from 9:30 a.m. and is located at 79 Victoria Street in Aurora.

What happens when one civic/fraternal organization annually joins hands with a faith-based ministry? Nothing short of the best gift-giving with a heart that a community could hope for in their drive to help the needy.
Non-perishable food items, winter items to help keep those in need warm, gifts for children and teenagers, personal hygiene products and petty cash to purchase grocery gift cards are among the items used for
This December 2013 Kawartha Food Share has sponsored local volunteers for the program “Keeping Christmas Local” so that families who can’t afford a Christmas dinner can have one as well. In essence, every dollar, this campaign can purchase $6 worth of food.
Last semester, I planned my first outreach event at the church. We had bounce houses, face painting, food, games, and candy. I worked so hard to get this put together and even members of the church used their own money to purchase things to make this event happened. There was door to door evangelizing going on in the surrounding neighborhoods to get the word out, and there were only two people in the community that showed up. Two people.
The first concept to look into is the strengths of the event. The strongest strength of this event is that of the tradition of the event. . This event is a annual event held every spring and held in the wellness center on campus. This is event that some of the student body looks forward to in hopes of raising money for the Make A Wish Foundation.
In better and more prosperous times, my previous employer held a yearly event called Parthenon. The best employees from across the US were chosen to attend. These individuals were chosen based on either performance or nomination. It was intended to be the ultimate award for peak performance. The trip was all inclusive; free airfare, luxurious hotel accommodations, full meals with any choice of beverage, and free fun events associated with the local area.

Letters, emails and phone calls soliciting for donations along with providing an awareness of the need to assist the homeless individuals. To co-workers, associates, local providers which provide services to the homeless population, advertising it in my email’s signature page, Face Book, conversations with some community members such as the Columbus House, United Way, Whalley Avenue Special Service District, and local distributors in the City of New Haven and speak to local business; including a request to WTNH Channel 8 Community News to provide a television segment to encourage the community and other organizations that can make a contribution with products or monetary donations to the need of the project. In addition, if there is not enough donations to continue this project in the future, fundraiser of home made lunch meals, will be implemented. Without that source of community and organization supports, there is little likelihood of a successful implementation of the
The large crowd attending the Edmonton Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Banquet enjoyed a delightful evening. The Metcalfe County High School Cafeteria was transformed into an elegant banquet room with round tables covered with linen cloths and candle centerpieces. President Jamie Parke made opening remarks before Dr. Benny Lile offered the invocation. Diane’s Cakes and Catering served a delicious meal.
Today it seems as though Christmas has fallen victim to materialism and commercialization. Rather than it being a time of loving and giving, it has become a stressful season of greed. Amidst all the hustle and bustle, it is important for us to recognize the true reason of the season, and celebrate in a fashion that exemplifies that reason.
My first event was a Veteran fair (See Appendix VF) which took place in Lansdowne, PA hosted by State Representative Margo L. Davidson and was attended by numerous vendors (See Appendix VF1) offering financial assistance, housing and job opportunities. This was a perfect chance to reach out to veterans and explain to them what the Red Cross SAF can do for them and also meet with the vendors and coordinate with them to help out our veterans better. The other big event that I had the opportunity to participate in was a Yellow Ribbon event for Navy Reservists (See Appendix YR) that have recently returned home from deployment. This was a returning warrior workshop for the reintegration phase of the reservist’s deployment. The Red Cross was asked to attend this event and set up a table with the other vendor offering information on our emergency communications, emergency financial assistance and our reconnection workshops that offer classes in babysitting, stress and anger management.
We, Aimee Johnson and Jessie Virnig, along with Amy Wilson and Shawn Klimek, decided to try to give the homeless a little hope. The week before Christmas we went door to door and collected food for the local homeless shelter. We decided to focus on collecting food because around the Christmas season, a lot of emphasis is put on toy drives and people sometimes overlook the fact that the homeless still need to eat. In order to broaden our research, we decided to collect food from more than one group of people. We went to an average middle class neighborhood and to a college dormitory. Before we went out into the neighborhood and dorms, we prepared a thank you letter to give to everyone explaining to them who we were, to tell them that we were collecting food for the homeles...

...ne day a stranger did something nice for me. If it becomes a tradition it will affect more than just me and the person I helped, but also the person he or she helped and so on. Hence, I want to do something nice for someone else to benefit more and more people and create a tradition.
Since 1999, the non-profit organization organizes a yearly event where donations are solicited from local businesses and individuals for a yearly fundraiser. The yearly fundraiser is held in a public park for families and individuals alike to attend and participate. The park enlists entry fees to make necessary improvements and continuous maintenance of the park. The fundraiser is a three day event which includes over-night gatherings, entertainment, and food free of cost, however, donations are acknowledged to assist the organization’s cause.
The most joyous season of the year in our house is Christmas. All the family gets together, gifts are exchanged and we give thanks for all that we have. This Christmas however, was one that I will never forget. If it weren't for the help of a stranger coming to my rescue, my holidays would have been ruined. He reminded me that a little kindness really does go along way.
