Making the transition from middle to high school can be an exciting, but also an intimidating journey. You have become a new fish in a much larger pond. The academics are challenging and the expectations are much higher. Your freshman year of high school marks the beginning of an important high school journey one that will lead you to a lifetime of success. The start of high school may be exciting, but it will be a completely different situation than when it was in middle school. From new clubs and organizations, to sports teams and other activities, there is no specific amount for how many you may try. If you were not involved in middle school, now is the time to get involved because there will be plenty of opportunities to do so. Even if you may think that a certain club or sport does not fit for you, you never know what you might learn about yourself. Don’t spend every moment of your life trying to be the popular one. If you’re likeable and someone people want to be around, they’ll naturally gravitate towards you for being you. Stay confident and don’t let others intimidate you. Maintaining your self-esteem and confidence is a sure way of making sure your peers and teachers don’t trample all over you, and it’s a key to feeling good about yourself and who you are. There is no shame in asking a teacher for extra help on an assignment. If you have questions about an organization or club, do not be afraid to ask an upperclassman for help. Asking questions leads to learning something new. Do not miss the opportunity to learn something new because you are too afraid to ask. The dynamics of high school are much different than in middle school. While it is common to stay friends with those you have grown up with, new classes and involvement in new activities can lead you to new friendships you may not have considered before.
