There has been much debate over whether students need to know what career choice they want before entering high school. Indeed, students do need to know their career choice before entering high school, in order to take classes that guide them towards success. Students will need to know their career choice for many different reasons such as: having more time to prepare and have better chances at job openings. First, students who choose a career earlier have more time to prepare for that career. For example, those who want to go into childcare will need to have a lot of practice and experience with children before going into the workplace. With that being said, knowing that one would like to go into that career will help the student when they get to high school because most high schools have classes to prepare those who are interested in childcare such as: Early childhood development or the preschool education class. “Most people need some preparation before they are ready for the workforce, and planning should begin long before it is time to start a career. Knowing what type of career preparation the student needs begins with thinking about what type of career the student would like to have(Torpey). When applying for a job or college, the more experience he/she has on that career or job will appeal to the boss more likely than having no experience would. “If he/she already has an idea of what they would like to do, he/she could start taking classes or gaining work experience outside of school, which will help bolster their college application, which could ultimately get them accepted into a college that is appropriate for their desired career”(School Tutoring Academy). Getting into a good college that is perfect for your career is key to being successful in that job
When someone is told they must have their mind made up, it hinders their creative mind to other ideas. For example, when I was shopping for my first car, I was told to consider my desires beforehand in order to make the process easier. When I decided I was definitely set on a black car, I would find something wrong with every other car I tested out. This is similar to attending college in the beginning. Going into college, it is suggested you choose a major. This is a difficult decision if a student is not sure of what career pathway they are interested in going down. Although “Undeclared” is an option, it is far more common for one to choose a major then just decide to change it later on. I feel as though it is important to keep options open, and young children should be able to keep their career options open
As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
Intro Deciding what you want to study during your college career can be a difficult and tedious task. This is due to fact that many young adults coming out of high school are unsure of what they want to do or what path to take career wise. It is also tedious because this requires that these individuals have to constantly try and explore new avenues so that they can find their passion in life. The path I chose to take when coming out of high school was entering the business school at Howard University.
When I was in sixth grade, I remember in my computer class we had to research what we wanted to do after we graduated. I’ll be honest, I thought that I wanted to be a fashion designer, a designer! I didn’t realize that what I was researching, was what I wanted my future career to be. The more I researched cosmetology, the more I thought I was going to enjoy the career. So my eighth grade year, I discovered make-up. I then started to do more research and it turns out that by just looking more into that career path makes me want to become someone that can help anyone feel beautiful. So the question was, “Do you feel that you should have started earlier to prepare for college, or do you agree with those who feel that high-school students now
Transitioning into high school, I experienced many changes. I became interested in sports, specifically football. I was introduced to a larger group of people since the entire county of teens went to the same singular high school. I actually grew taller! I started to see the world differently as I grew older. I noticed how different life was for White people and Black people in my small area learning to behave differently in mixed company. White people were not real. They were plastic like the characters on television as far as I was concerned. No one told me this, but I came to that conclusion based on my experience with them—as limited as that experience was.
Deciding a definite career path as teens is quite a challenge. Most of high school graduate student is
The struggles I’ve faced during high school were never seen and never expected. Before you come to High School you hear about how you have to stay prepared and get your work done on time. If you don’t do the work you cannot succeed in high school, but you take it like it’s a glass half empty. My struggles have included my confidence in math and just the pressures of wanting to succeed in high school. Also having to deal with track, the constant injuries and now realizing how it’s changed my work ethic.
As a high school senior about to go to college, there are plenty of decisions that need to made in a pretty short of amount of time. While yes, there will be some room for changing my mind after I go to college, knowing where I want to go and why still helps. My school has a requirement for job shadowing before I graduate, and it's supposed to help me in thinking about what kind of career I want to go into. I job shadowed at the Medical Clinic of Northville, and it helped me put things into perspective.
All or most of us have gone through it. The countless hours we spent filling out college applications, scholarship applications, visiting colleges, and taking the dreaded tests. Whether it was the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or other college entrance exams, it was a big hassle. After visiting such a great number of colleges, the advantages and disadvantages of the schools seemed to run together in my mind. The endless paper work and deadlines seemed as though they would never end. When I thought about college, it seemed like it was not real, like it was a figment of my imagination. I imagined what it would be like, wondering where I would go. The questions of "What did I want to major in?" and after I decided that, "What schools had my major?" circled around in my head. When filling out questionnaires for college searches I was asked about what size college I preferred, whether I wanted to be in a rural or suburban area. Did I really know how to answer these questions that would so greatly affect the next four years of my life?
An anonymous author once said, "What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now." Over the course of my school years, it has been an exciting and shocking experience. These experiences have been an enjoyable journey from my elementary to middle school years. However, after several years the end of my middle school adventure is coming to a close. Soon my new journey will start as a freshman. Eight grade will surely be one of my most memorable years. It has been an absolute wonderful one hundred eighty days, and I will miss some of the aspects of eight grade—but certainly not all of it.
To start off with, going to high school was a big journey to explore. High school wasn't always as easy like in the movies. In every year there were sacrifices I made to graduate to the next. Playing sports while going to school could be a hassle, especially when having too much homework. Going to school and playing sports isn't always the best way to have good grades.
Growing up is scary. Especially when the future is unpredictable, finding the right job can reduce this. It is tough as a kid to think about how to spend the time in the future and what to be doing as a career. There are a lot of decisions to be made. For example, in order to pick the accurate college it is worthy to know what interests me as an individual. There are questions that can be answered that will be able to suggest a better idea of what jobs apply. Well, in the future I would like to have a career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Choosing a career is a big step. It’s important that you make sure to find the career that’s right for you. The first thing to do is to think about who you are. What are your interests? What type of personality do you have? What jobs might be a good fit for these characteristics? When you pick a few job matches, make sure to read about them. Decide if you think they will be a good match for you. When you think you have found the right one for you, you need to make a plan and set goals on how you are going to succeed in this career choice. Maybe a few years of college are necessary, maybe not. Then when you get to the step where you are ready to start looking for work, you will need to develop a cover letter and resume, and go on job interviews. All this will determine whether or not you get the job you are applying for.
From the moment we are born, others wonder what we will grow to be. Will we be a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher? The list of careers is endless. As time passes and as we grow, we ourselves begin to wonder what we will be. Will we be a orthodontist, like Dad? A veterinarian, like Mom? Or will we join the Navy, like Grandpa Doug did? As soon as we begin our schooling, it one main question is commonly asked by both parents, teachers, and peers alike: what do we want to be when we grow up? Some believe that asking these questions and preparing from an early age for a career that we will hopefully continue for the rest of our adult lives is good, that it helps prepare us better and helps us determine early on what our interests are. Other disagree that starting so early in college and career preparation is a good thing, that it may cause students later on in their education to suffer from “burn-out”. The question is, which side is correct? In my opinion, it’s a bit of both: while preparing early and being ready for the next step--college--after being handed our diplomas is important, it can also have a bad result, as far as some students are concerned.
Freshman year of is viewed as the most important year in a students’ high school career. For many students it is a make or break time period that many don’t move past. Ninth grade students begin their year between the ages of thirteen and fifteen. During that age, students begin to one of the biggest growths within human development. Entering a new format, with new teachers, different building, and a whole new culture can cause problems within the new group of students.
