I would be honored to be a Link Crew Leader because it would allow me to practice my leadership skills. I am currently treasurer of the Hispanic Youth Leadership Club here in Turlock High School and am expecting to become president next school year, but, I want to take on more leadership positions in the school to exert my leadership potential. As a person of an official position, I would be capable of guiding freshmen to an enjoyable high school experience.
I know how difficult it is to transition from middle school to high school, especially being from the countryside of Turlock where my graduating class consisted of eighty kids. It is a big transition from a class of eighty to a class of about six hundred, and I would only know less than
FBLA has been such a defining point in my high school career and vital part in who I am today and even who I will be in the future. Becoming an officer would allow me to see to that other students that are new to FBLA also experience the same things as I have so that they could not only grow within FBLA but also in life. I hope to, as part of becoming a potential officer, that I can encourage others in FBLA as was done to me by older peers. Hopefully with this, we can have a large increase in membership and activity to improve our chapter.
Making the transition from middle school to high school is a huge stepping stone in a teenager’s life. High school represents both the ending of a childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It’s a rite of passage and often many teens have the wrong impression when beginning this passage. Most began high school with learning the last thing on their mind. They come in looking for a story like adventure and have a false sense of reality created through fabricated movie plots acted out by fictional characters. In all actuality high school is nothing like you see in movies, television shows, or what you read about in magazines.
With an upcoming drumline of around ten freshmen, eight sophomores, three juniors, and one senior we have a tremendous amount of work ahead of us and to achieve that goal of being the best we need someone to lead us. Our ensemble can become amazing and I have a lot of great goals I hope we accomplish next year but more than anything else our group needs motivation to become the best. And by the end of next year we will have pushed ourselves and we might be bloody and tired at the finish line but we will have made it. That 's what I strive for if I get the position of Drum Captain for the 2016 Pirate Drum Line.
Theresa M. Letrello & Dorothy D. Miles (2003) The Transition from Middle School to High School:
Feel I qualify for this scholarship because I love to help people. Through different experiences, such as sports and school, I have learned and demonstrated various leadership skills. Being a Link crew leader not only taught me how to be a leader but, it help me have faith in myself and to always look up to younger people. I joined link crew so I could help our new 10 graders find their way around, and to feel included and accepted at their new school. For example during orientation in august I was giving good amount of advice to my sophomore group to be able to survive high school since I am a senior this year This made me proud and humbled that I could make a huge impact in someone's life. Another reason is I am good at organization and
Link Crew is an extra-curricular leadership group that focuses on team building, and building leadership qualities for its members. Link crew is all about helping the new incoming grade nines to get settled and comfortable in their new high school experience. Link crew helped improve my communication and leadership skills through the aid of the Link crew course. The Link crew course focused on improving group dynamics, people skills, problem solving skills, communication skills, and most importantly leadership skills. The experience was really educational and entertaining
Making the transition from high school to college involves change in almost every aspect of a student’s
Starting high school is tough for some people. Moving to a new city is also tough for some people. Or me I had to deal with both. I can remember my very first day of high school, I was so nervous. I didn’t make any friends over the summer so I didn’t talk to anyone. I was pushed out of my comfort zone to talk to people and make new friends. A few months into school I received my first interim. It wasn't the greatest but , I blamed it on my transition to high school and promised that
For many middle school students across the nation the transition from middle school to high school is an exciting time. It is the beginning of the end, their last hurrah before they go off on their own as college students. While students may be excited to experience all that high school has to offer, some parents are anxiety ridden. They are aware that the next four years will play a crucial role in their child’s future. Parents begin to wonder whether or not their local high school will prepare their child for the difficult academic transition from high school to college, or if their child will be negatively influenced by the decisions their peers make. These types of questions may lead some parents to seek out other academic options for their
Every student has had to overcome new challenges to adapt to our new environment. In 6th grade we were in a new territory. We had new responsibilities and we had to learn the ways of our school. We may have been nervous and maybe a little scared but we persevered through and completed our next task. In 7th grade we came into this school, it starting to look familiar, we knew how the school ran and how much effort we had to put in. We knew that we were finally growing as people and expanding our minds. When we walked into 8th grade it was a whole different story. We were now the “leaders” of the school, and now we had to create a good influence for the other students in the school. We finally have seen all of the school and have learned all of rules and people and staff in the school. Our journey has been scary but filled with new life lessons . We have all greatly matured and become strong young adults. We now will be moving into the next stage of our careers and this school has greatly prepared us for
What is meant by ‘crew resource management (CRM)’ and why is it important for aviation safety?
I have been involved in my school’s Link Crew program since my junior year of high school. Through this program I have been able to help incoming freshmen adjust to high school, as well as gaining skills in leadership and public speaking. When I first joined Link Crew, I was not very confident in leading groups or talking to large groups in general, however; Link Crew has made me more comfortable with leading and public speaking. I was fortunate enough to create long lasting friendships with the freshmen in my link crew and have continued to keep up a relationship with
Going into high school there is a lot of transitioning that occurs. A major part of this transitioning for me included my faith life. The summer after my freshman year I attended Catholic Heart Workcamp for my third time. A change occurred in me that week, this change was so extreme that my faith was forever transformed. I felt that I was seeing life from a different point of view and was thinking of my future in a different manner than before. Through Catholic heart I was not only able to serve others but was able to find myself.
You know, it is really strange how quickly time passes, after spending my whole childhood wishing I was an adult, now here we are and it's a little hard to grasp. It feels like just yesterday I was standing here in the same position at eighth grade graduation. Ahh, middle school, such a joyous time for all of us, free of maturity and not a care in the world. The biggest decisions I ever had to make then was deciding which group to stand with at passing time and choosing which shirt from my extensive collection of Stussy and No Feat apparel to wear. We were all naive to the danger that lurked just around the corner. We were unaware that the carefree world we lived in was about to come crashing to the ground in a blazing inferno of real school work and responsibility ... otherwise known as high school.
In my freshman year I did not like to get up and present or talk about myself in front of people, but now I can confidently stand in the middle of crowded people and talk about my experience. Link Crew has given me a chance to gain experience and be able to talk to people and communicate. At first, I saw Link Crew as just a program that will give me a graduation sash and will make me look better with it, but while I was forced to communicate I learned how to stand and talk about myself. I also learned how to lead others to my advice and helped me to be a good leader. I want to say I am more stable now and understand what is my strength and weakness and that what made me have a good leadership
