Being in high school has its ups and downs. We all have experienced those weird situations, for example, trying to meet new friends or trying to fit in. Charlie learns that he has to stick up for what is right and realizes that he cannot let people walk all over him. Charlie made friends by that because they loved how he went about his life. Stephen Chbosky’s, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” suggests that high school is just part of growing up. Charlie is a wallflower and being socially awkward he finds a way to have a successful journey through high school. Despite the social challenges of high school, Charlie learns how to make friends, found a passion for writing, and realizing what drugs can do to you.
In high school, it’s hard to find true friends. People in high school can change in the blink of an eye. People in high school go through tough relationships, lie to you, say harsh things behind your back, think they are better than you, and
Drugs are bad for you as a human being, and they are addictive. They can screw you up and change the way you act. Charlie had encounters with two different drugs, weed, and LSD. While being at your first party, you know what is going to go on but you don’t know how people will react when you show up. Charlie just met Sam and Patrick and he really didn’t have any other friends. Bob, one of Patrick’s friend sat Charlie on a couch beside two girls that were seniors and they started asking him questions. Bob made brownies with marijuana in them, but Charlie didn’t know that. Charlie eats one and he is acting differently than usual because he is high. “I ate the brownie, and it tasted a little weird, but it was still a brownie, so I ate it” (Chbosky, 35).
