When artists go through an emotional down fall in there career’s you see some stars fall and other’s reflect to back when it all started to better themselves. As Katy Perry stated in her interview with U.S.A Today Prism is “less over-the-top and more “me””. I have come to realize that when artist put out an album, it isn’t just to see how many copies they can sell but it’s about making music with feelings, getting into there inner self and reaching out to those who admire them, the social text of the music is the heart of every song and the album altogether. A lot of the time artist will write about their emotions but never really behind the sense of what occurred. Here I will take two artists and break down there trails and show how they made them into triumphs through the context of there music. I will describe how these artist were able to create pieces of music that took over a particular emotion and were able to get it’s point across to the listener. These artists will be Katy Perry, and Britney Spears.
Lets take a look at what music with emotional context is first, before I go on about these artists. When you think of music you also think of emotion but what is that really? What is an emotion? What causes an emotion? Why do we feel an emotion when we listen to the words of these artists? As started in the article “Theories of Emotion By Kendra Cherry” she stated that psychologist Cannon Bard describes emotion as a message “the thalamus sends a message to the brain in response to a stimulus, resulting in a physiological reaction.” This meaning that the message send by the artists to this listeners triggers our brains emotions therefore we are able to understand what the artist is feeling at the time. If an artist is feeling ...

...re trying to portray. How is it that artists are able to do this? Well a lot of the time the artist themselves are feeling or go through the emotion themselves like I spoke above about Katy Perry and how she took on the emotion of sadness through her devoice and made her audience feel her pain.
Britney Spears is another artist who we all saw thrive from this musical context of expression. Unlike Katy Perry Britney didn’t go up in a home of strict Christian parents her life was much rather normal. She also became a pop star and had an emotional divorce but she did not take the route of sadness Katy took in for her album. Britney instead went though a rough more nasty public divorce that caused her to have the emotion of rage. This rage is what triggered her to her album Circus.
What the album Circus portrays is what I believe is an emotional rollercoaster of rarge,

Her influence is simply not a question it is a salutation to a musical icon that has embedded her legacy into musical history.
The reason that I picked Paula is because I remember growing up watching So You Think You Can Dance, and American Idol with my family. Paula did many different things in her life time and still is doing a lot of new things. Abdul is a very talented singer, song writer choreographer, performer, designer, dancer, actor and business woman. She also has a lot of different awards. She is a two-time Emmy Award winner, Grammy Award winner, American Music Award winner, and multi-platinum recording artist. She has gotten these achievements over a span of twenty five years. Not many people notice that Paula Abdul is a choreographer. When you hear the name Paula Abdul you may think of her as a singer, performer,
Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, her main goal is not to only completely change the way her performance is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art.
...el. It’s difficult to describe because it’s not something you can analyze; to get near what it’s about you have to play it. And when you’ve caught it, when you’ve got the audience hooked, you always know because it’s like electricity hanging in the air” (Nathan, Ward & Seidel, 2013). She was a remarkable woman with many shown talents and a major influence in the overall world of music.
A North Carolina rapper named Jermaine Lamar Cole released his first mixtape called The Come up in May of 2007. The mixtape included a song that had a deep and thoughtful meaning, that song was called "Can 't Cry". In the song J Cole tells us about his life and how he goes through some tough times. He describes what is important to him now he is a grown man and what his goals are which he plans to achieve but gets sidetracked by the world we live in. In this essay I will first explain my definition of what the audiences are and then another sources and finally J Coles own definition from the song. J Cole effectively engages his audiences-men, black men and people who struggle with issues in life by revealing the stereotype that society has
It is well known that art can express the feelings and emotions of the creator; however, a
A sixteen year old girl poses for the camera, wearing a shirt that resembles something more akin to a bra than to an actual shirt. She is lying prostrate upon the floor with the photographer snapping pictures above her scantily-clad form. The girl's name is Britney Spears. She has just recorded her first hit single, named "Hit Me Baby One More Time".
Because was internationally recognized as a pop icon her personal life was always out in the open. This caused a lot of chaos in her life and she started to behave erratically. Britney was sent hospitals as a involuntary psychiatric, and this went on and off for two years. She was sent to court and it was determined that she was to be put under a "conservatorship" or a law that gives all your money to your legal guardians and they control it. With Britney beginning to straighten up, she released her sixth album, circus. This album allowed her to have the title of the highest grossing global concert tours in 2009. After a year of hard work and more personal issues, her next album, "Femme Fatale" was released in 2011 which again was a great success. She was then signed as a judge during the second season of X Factor. At the same time, she released her eighth album "Britney Jean" in 2013. Unfortunately, "Britney Jean" album is the lowest selling record of her
In today’s world, celebrities are often misunderstood, especially singer/songwriter Robin Rihanna Fenty, referred to as Rihanna. Rihanna’s sexual behaviors in her videos have been talked about in negative ways for some time now, but what [eople do not understand is that it is all for fame. Celebrities will do anything to keep their career going strong. If one really took the time out to take a deep look at Rihanna, they will notice how humble she really is. After going through the abusive relationship with Chris Brown, Rihanna has struggled with gaining that strong confidence with who she is. Her critics believe that she is still trying to discover herself and figure out who she really is as a person. Rihanna is often given two choices, to do what she is being asked to do, or throw her career out the window. She either gives the crowd the sexual acts they want or let her career die down. In the song “S&M,” Rihanna was really exposing herself to the crowd, as well as “Good Girl, Gone Bad.” She is basically telling the crowd that this is the person she is, but is it really? For my original piece I will be creating a journal, expressing the feelings Rihanna felt as she overcomes her struggles. Rihanna’s sexual behaviors in her videos are really all for fame and therefore, are easily misunderstood.
Britney was very successful from 1998 to 2000. During these years, things were changing for her. Britney was telling people about her “remaining a virgin until marriage” yet she was posing in pictures that convinced people to think otherwise. Her albums still continued to sell in the United States as well as in Europe. She embarked on many successful roads through 2003 (Wikipedia, 2011). Her public finally saw her as a woman not a girl.
Music is one of the most popular ways of portraying, sparking, and settling emotions. Perhaps one the the most well known artists for emotional music is Adele Adkins. As a child, she enjoyed singing contemporary pop music and learned to play the guitar and the clarinet. Then in her early teens, Adkins discovered Etta James along with several other mid-20th-century blues performers. It was then that she seriously began to consider a professional musical career. In this paper, I will discuss some musical characteristics, the instruments being played, as well as the rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, and form of one of her many successful songs. (Cunningham, 2017)
Throughout my life, music has always been a major influence. It has the power to change my mood when I'm feeling down, but the thing I find most intriguing about music is that it doesn't always end up improving your mood: like all forms of art, it imitates life, which is not always portrayed in a positive light. The musicians that I admire most have the versatility to induce several different emotional responses in the same piece. This quality is present in most of the wide variety of music I listen to, from Russian composer Dmiti Shostakovich, to Chicago jazz band Tortoise, to California pop/rock sextet Mr. Bungle.
Is Lana Del Rey one of the most depressing female artists to come along in the last ten years? Why? Yes, because that’s her style. Her songs seem to be depressing, but it's a reflection of who she is as an artist as well as the experiences she had early on in life. Her lyrics are heartfelt and poetic in the modern way, and her vocals are not necessarily for mainstream music; she has a whole style of her own that's different from pop stars of this age. My topic will revolve around a discussion of the music of Lana Del Rey. One of the most enigmatic personalities of modern pop, Del Rey seems to be able to speak directly to the human soul, with this magical way of lending her lyrics to our lives.
Sia Furler is an Australian born singer-songwriter whose music has earned her a Grammy along with appraisal from celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres. She was placed on the radar of stardom when she collaborated with top singers in the pop music industry which lead to the creation of hits such as Beyoncé’s Pretty Hurts and Rihanna’s Diamonds. However, while Sia’s creative energy in creating unbroken melodies and a smooth articulation of words may have boosted the success of these celebrities’ albums, Sia spares a certain type of originality for her own songs. Often, her music reflects the events that have happened in her life as she has explained this in interviews (Find the actual interview! Support Yo Stuff). Particularly, drug addiction,
Pop music is defined as a type of music, mostly played on electronic instruments, which can be appealing to individual of large age range due to the short, catchy phrases with beats and simple tunes (Macmillan). One of the notable pop singers is Katy Perry. She grew up around gospel music since her parents are both pastors and she used to sing in their church. Katy Perry started her music career during her first year of high school. In 2007, she changed her style from religious music to pop music. In 2008, she released her second single "I Kissed a Girl", and later on "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", and "Firework”. Katy Perry is the first female artist in history that recorded five No. 1 hits in an album. Her music consists of different elements including disco, electronic music, pop and rock. Her latest album, Prism (2013), includes her number-one singles "Roar" and "Dark Horse", which the main focus of the music is about self-empowerment (Perry). The song "Firework" is known to be an important single from her third album, Teenage Dream and is written by herself, Ester Dean, Stargate, and Sandy Vee. “Firework” was released on October 18, 2010 and it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on December 9th. The song also lasted for 4 non-consecutive weeks at the triumph position on Hot 100 (Aceshowbiz). The song “Firework” makes a positive impact as it encourages listeners to express their individual worth, instills hope within listeners, and motivates individuals to achieve their goals without restriction.
