1. Who did you do this exercise with? I did this exercise with my mother. I chose my mother because I wanted to see if there were any similarities between the strengths that each of us possess. 2. What were their top five strengths? My mother’s top five strengths are: • Curiosity • Honesty • Social intelligence • Teamwork • Forgiveness 3. What did you say that you could do to support them in using their strengths? • Curiosity: To support this strength, I suggested that my mother and I explore a clear majority of new places and things. • Honesty: Be willing to express how I feel to my mother without reservation. What happened when you tried Active Constructive responding? When I tried Active Constructive Responding, it felt like the environment was safe and nonjudgmental. My mother wasn’t aware that I was using a specific type of response while we were communicating, but she was being more talkative while we spoke. 5. What did they say that they could do to support you in using your strengths? My top five strengths are honesty, kindness, hope, perseverance, and prudence. • Honesty: Since my mother and I share this strength, I’ve already listed what we can do to support each other. • Kindness: Although I am kind, my mother pointed out that although I have been saying that I would like to do things for other people, I haven’t been doing that. She is going to remind me to share my kindness with others. • Hope: I’m two semesters away from graduating with my bachelor’s degree, so my mother is going to remind me that I’m capable of achieving whatever I set my mind
