How does Tom Wilson show his attitude towards Big Burger, its food and its customers?
Tom Wilson has a partially positive and generally negative attitude towards Big Burger, its food and its customers. He talks about the strengths and weaknesses of the restaurant; such as the nutritional value of some of the burgers offered, jocoserious humour to deprecate the food and propositions to help improve the variety thus surpassing their rivals such as Burger Max and Tasty Burger.
Wilson tries to emphasise the size of the portion, by using the phrase "big and scrumptious" to describe the "sandwiches" and the sauces that go along with them. This phrase is used because he wants to emphasise how big it is along with the sauces; saying how the burgers
are as good as the sauces and make it "even better." The word "scrumptious" makes it sound appealing and create a mouthwatering image into the reader's head, making them want to try it. It also gives off a positive vibe and it shows his praise for the burger. However, he also portrays the food in a negative light through comments such as "make me feel sick," "delicacy throbs" and "variety isn't Big Burger's strong point either...stumbling in the footsteps of their rivals." Tom Wilson points out the negatives in a blunt way to cut off the positives. The word 'throbs' gives off an unpleasant image, reminds the reader of an early death due to heart attacks and is trying to put off the reader. At the end, he casually slips in a short punch line, "Keep a paramedic handy for that one", this concludes the paragraph which reduces the criticism by a notch and makes it a little light hearted. Secondly, he talks about the staff and that they're generally friendly. Wilson uses approving language such as "dealt with well" and "looked after"and has a positive attitude towards them. However, he then contradicts this afterwards with "sometimes they succeed" meaning that the service is not positive all the time. This has a negative influence on the reader and leaves them with second thoughts and lowers their expectations of the restaurant. Futhermore, Wilson finds Big Burger as a whole decent and approves of it. "pretty good" "satsify your hunger." He is saying that the business is doing quite well and customers are generally pleased with it as a whole. "pretty good" meaning that it's quite good just not excellent. Regardless of that, he's saying that there are people who like it despite less business. Despite sounding as if Wilson is approving of BB, he completely contradicts all of it with the phrase: "Sometimes they succeed", implying that customers are mostly dissatisfied with the service and mocks BB.
McDonald's is one of the multiple fast food restaurants that serve greasy and oversized meals that are harmful to the human body. Throughout a thirty day McDonald's only diet, Spurlock surrounds himself with logos, ethos, and pathos to impact the viewer's opinion on the true cost of eating fast food
The Dark Side of the All-American Meal, a work examining the country’s fast food industry (Gale). Schlosser sets off chapter 5: “Why the Fries Taste Good,” in Aberdeen,
Throughout the United States many American’s go through and eat at fast food places such as, McDonalds, Burger King, and Jack ‘n the Box. Mainly unaware of the amount of weight one can gain if consuming it on a daily bases or even two times week, can cause health issues, diabetes and possibly obesity. This was the main premise for writer Dave Zinczenko essay Don’t Blame the Eater, who makes an argument that many people are becoming obese and diabetic because of the fast food they eat. He asks a regarding his concern; Shouldn 't we know better than to eat two meals a day in fast-food restaurants?, As a way to engage the general public, like parents and teenagers, he expresses his argument through his own experience when he was a teenager eating at fast food places and information on the fast food industry in regards to how many calories are in the food.
One of the most shocking books of the generation is Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation. The novel includes two sections, "The American Way" and "Meat and Potatoes,” that aid him in describing the history and people who have helped shape up the basics of the “McWorld.” Fast Food Nation jumps into action at the beginning of the novel with a discussion of Carl N. Karcher and the McDonald’s brothers. He explores their roles as “Gods” of the fast-food industry. Schlosser then visits Colorado Springs and investigates the life and working conditions of the typical fast-food industry employee. Starting out the second section, Schlosser travels to the western side of Colorado to examine the effects presented to the agriculture world in the new economy. Following Schlosser’s journey across the nation, he leads everything up to slaughterhouses and the main supply of income for fast food franchises – the meat. After visiting the meat industries in America, Schlosser explores the expansion of fast food around the eastern hemisphere – including the first McDonalds in Germany. Throughout Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser presents in his point of view and informative tone, a detailed disscussion of the conditions using various examples imagry and flowing diction/syntax to help support and show his audience the reasoning behind the novel.
...tself, leaving McDonald's, with all its efforts, in the same place it starts. The editorial cartoon is altogether a reflection of ultimate failure as McDonald's attempts to get back on track and "shape up".

Super-Size Me showed how one of the most popular fast food restaurants around today may be leading future generations to severe health problems. First, my personal reaction to this documentary is an eye opener. I knew McDonalds was more harmful than other fast food places, but I never knew about the lawsuit between McDonalds and its consumers. I never saw McDonalds as having a big impact on my life; this is probably because the McDonald’s in my hometown never had a super-size option. In the video, Spurlock conducted interviews to gain multiple perspectives on what kind of people eat McDonald’s food.... ...

STRENGTHS: Jim Skinner had to clean up a big mess after the 2003 slump, and did so by coming up with a strategy to turn everything around. His strategy had to consist of staying competitive with the numerous other fast-food restaurants popping up all over the world. In order to maintain this, they had to reorganize the way they presented themselves to the community. Jim Skinner did so by cleaning up the customer service, cleaning up and modernizing the physical buildings, and changing the menu to the changing tastes of their customers. McDonald’s also introduced their slogan “I’m Loving It” to reach out to the younger customers. The advertising is very much targeted toward teens and young adults. (Dess, Case 40)
The woman herself is photo shopped extensively and is posing in an extremely awkward manner. Her face is clean of acne and she has rosy cheeks. Her lipstick is dark red, her eyes extremely wide with eyeliner and eye shadow, and she has short blonde hair. As Naomi Wolf suggests the media often times portray woman in such a way that woman feel, as though they should look like that. Woman may be subjected to this once more as the maker of this advertise has portrayed what they think society finds sexy, and thus certain women may feel as though they need to look like her. Then there’s the entire aspect of the phallic shaped burger right in front of the woman’s wide-open mouth. The end of the burger fades into darkness making its origins unknown. This could be suggesting that girl’s will perform oral sex no matter who you are as long as you have a large penis. To highlight this false truth further, there is a spotlight on the woman and the fading burger, which makes viewers look at that part of the advertisement first and is what governs the rest of the advertisement. In the bottom corner the full burger is showed with a lighter colored background and if this was the only part of the advertise, the sexual innuendo would have been extremely hard to get. Also the description of the burger is sexual due to the highlighted picture in the center of the
Cultural or ideological meaning: The ad is extremely sexual. The female has her eyes and mouth wide open as if she is shocked of the size of the “burger.” The advertisement is clearly displaying an image that represents a female that is about to engage in oral sex with a male. “It’ll blow your mind away” and “super seven incher” phrases are used to send a sexual message. The word blow is referring to a man receiving oral sex and the phrase “super seven incher” is referring to a male’s penis. The ad is not only degrading females but is also degrading males, as it is suggesting that males who have large penises are more desirable, as the female is looking at the burger, which represents a penis accompanied by the phrase “ it just tastes better.”
Now that we know what the problem is, we are able to examine various options to fix the problem. The first and foremost approach Burger King can engage in is differentiation. They need to bring variety to their menu and include a plethora of healthy options. Obesity is rapidly growing especially within the United States, as well as, the amount of fast food chains. Burger King can set themselves aside from other chains by providing those healthy, yet delicious menu choices. For example, Burger King can introduce a children’s meal that provides a choice of fruit as their side and a healthy drink such as apple, orange, or pineapple juice. This would be appeal to parents of young children, especially when parents are in a big rush and look to fast-food restaurants for quick food fix.
He was the individual that started the “burger wars”. Basically he ran commercials that said burger kings burgers were bigger and better Than McDonalds, these were some of the first political style “attack ads” in the food industry. Norman brinker stayed with the company for awhile fixing what he could before leaving the company to build the chilis restaurant. Without smith or Brinker Burger King dropped again, this was one of the major reasons why Pillsbury couldn’t fight off any takeover bids by the Grand Metropolitan P.L.C a British company. Grand Metropolitan already had a worldwide mindset, first they changed burger kings distribution methods which’d helped the company a lot, switching their soft drink contract from Pepsi to Coca-Cola. They also partnered with Walt Disney company to have a tie in with Disney films. While doing all of this they managed to expand Burger King around the world, partially by buying the burger chain
Burger King is a well-known fast food restaurant that tends to post ads that most individuals may find eye catching. This ad is definitely one of them. The way that you might interpret this ad depends on what gender you are and what type of perspective you view this ad. If you were to hear about this advertisement you would most likely assume that Burger King’s target audience are men because of the words chosen. Burger King is advertising a new super seven-inch sandwich. This juicy, flame- grilled sandwich is filled with American cheese, crispy onions and a beef patty topped with a “hearty” A.1 steak sauce. The appeal used in this advertisement is absolutely the need for sex. The quote, “ It’ll Blow Your Mind Away” in large bold font just
CHANGING PREFRECE depended vastly on the fast food manus. For example we can mention about SALAD. Now salad was never considered as a part of fast food menu. But with the change of taste and preference, fast food chains like Windy, Taco Bell, and McDonald have introduced SALAD into their menus. This preference is not stopping only with salads. In 2002, McDonald’s introduced great tasting new products including premium salads, n salads plus menu; Chicken McNuggets made with white meat; Fish McDippers; Chicken Selects; and new breakfast offerings like the McGriddle sandwiches. Here as a fast food chain, McDonald did not have to introduce new dishes in their menus but with the impression and image in the market analysis, of increasing demand and chan...
