Introduction
“Welcome to the sometimes confounding topic of plagiarism in the cut-and-paste Internet era. ”: cited from Todd Finkelmeyer’s article “UW students, faculty struggle with plagiarism in Internet era”, also referred to as T1 in the following essay. The term plagiarism is an adequality new word, regarding the way students choose to write their assignments and the content they end up handing over. They tell the teachers that what they see in the real world is people cheating to achieve success. They are filled with the concept of cheating is equal to triumph, and therefore already concluding that plagiarizing could be a possible and maybe the most convenient way to achieve success - having an excuse for plagiarizing. Finkelmeyer includes a statement given by the director at Clemson University, Teddi Fishman, he says that people are theorizing that because students think cheating is a must to succeed in life, they start to cheat in college. This wrong mindset abounds in schools, and not many teachers nor students takes this problem serious. The rules are too loose, and should be restrained and controlled. Although when you are younger and you get to know that plagiarizing is illegal and the consequences can severe, cases of students getting caught in the act are rare. This is also one part of the overall problem, schools and teachers do not focus enough upon this topic. They carry on, unnoticeable of anything, and when students see this, they will get an indication of “Sure I can do this, there are no consequences”. “If people are given wiggle room, they’ll take it” . There are no simple solutions . Teachers should teach the undergraduates that plagiarizing is an atrocity, they must frame it up clearly so the students cannot come up with some stupid excuse. They must be held accountable for what they have done, and for that reason universities, colleges etc. as an approach towards a solution could incorporate an online detection tool for plagiarism. Other people says that the honour code could be the best answer, “where you collectively try and get students to agree on what’s cheating” . This is but two of many viable solutions for plagiarism discussed by directors, professors and specialists. Right now, it is not clear what solution is the most effective one to prevent plagiarism to disperse. But what you know for a fact is that it won’t be
