The book I am reading is called “The Truth About Leadership,” and it opened by talking about the context of leadership and how much it has changed over the last thirty, ten, and even five years. After a bit of discussion, they came to the conclusion that although the context of leadership has indeed changed, the content of leadership has not changed. They know that the actions, behaviors, and practices of leaders have remained the same. Based on this belief, the book them goes on to lay out ten fundamental truths regarding leadership and what must be present to be a successful leader. If you are willing to take and idea and then take steps to make that idea a reality, then you can become a leader. They mention the idea that when people think about the most influential people in their lives, the most common categories are family, teacher/coach, and community/religious leaders. It does not come from the highest up CEOs, but is on a much smaller scale. This means that any time there are younger people under you, you have the opportunity to be a leader. You do not have to have a specific title or make a specified amount of money to be a leader. Being a good leader is about so much more than just the skills you have as it relates to your job. People need to know who you are as person, including your values. A person should find a job under people or companies that share some of the same main values. If you are trying to lead people with completely different values, then why would they want to follow you. The authors of this book suggest that leaders be sure to know which values they believe in the most and would never want to go against and ask their constituents to do the same thing. At that point, they can all share their values and look for a common one to work towards as a group or company. I believe that this is very important just because commons goals allow people to come together and want to work towards that
