Stages of Change The stages of change according to the Transtheoretical Model of Change consist of precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and termination. The Transtheoretical model of change includes flexible stages. This means that an individual could be in the maintenance stage one week, relapse the next week and be back in the precontemplation stage. The stages of change are not stagnant and an individual could go up/down a stage or stages of change depending on their development of self-efficacy. Ted goes through all of these stages of change on his journey to sobriety.

During this stage, individuals intend to change. Individuals are aware of the pros and cons of their behavior. The contemplation stage is where individuals start to feel ambivalent about changing their behavior. Ted beings to move toward the contemplation stage during his second week of treatment. This is evidence in an small increased awareness of his lack of control when it comes to his drinking as evidenced by Ted statement that “it’s tougher to control it now that it use to be”. Feedback would be implemented by using active and reflective listening, open ended questioning (Miller & Rollnick, 2012). By using the basic motivational interviewing techniques a counselor could elicit information about Ted’s problem areas and concerns. When Ted’s ambivalence has resolved and he has made a commitment to change the Responsibility aspect of the FRAMES technique could be implemented. Responsibility allows a client to see that counseling is a collaborative process but the client is responsible for their own change (Miller & Rollnick, 2012). As a counselor, this is where I would implement treatment planning. Advice would be apart of suggesting AA meetings and strategies for stress management. An integral part of advice giving and treatment options is to make sure that Ted has a variety of options to choose from (menu of options). ... By scheduling an activity that the client can participate in and complete, it can give them a sense of mastery in a specific task. This can be beneficial for the client to feel accomplished. Another technique that I feel can be beneficial in therapy is role-playing. Role-playing can be helpful for a client to learn how to dispute irrational beliefs by becoming aware of negative feelings towards theses beliefs (Tan, 2011). In addition, role-playing can help the client to overcome their emotions and practice coping skills that are more effective. The last technique I would incorporate into therapy would be relaxation training. I would suggest ways that can help the client relax including, deep breathing, meditation, yoga, a massage or exercising. By getting the client to have methods to relax, I think it can help with managing their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
Although, this session ended with amazing results, I feel as though I need more practice with this type of therapy. I have to continue to practice on allowing the patient to come up with their own solutions. I found it hard not giving advice to my client, because I already knew the situation. However, in the end I found myself very proud, because even though this was not a real therapy session, but the client was able to find a real solution to her problem. This experience is one that teaches the therapist restraint, it allows one to step back and listen. The theory I would like to discuss this week is Lewin’s Theory of Change. This theory supports my PICO change clinical question and project in two ways. Change will have to take place in the parents when it comes to the way they nourish their children and change will have to take place in the organization that I will implement my project.

As you grow up and life changes, you must take charge of your own life and not become so dependent on others. Throughout the course of life a person will encounter many changes, whether good or bad. In 'A&P';, 'The Secret Lion';, and 'A Rose for Emily';, the main characters in the stories are Sammy, the boys, and Miss Emily who face changes during their lives. All of these characters are in need of change. Because of their need for change, their lives will become much better. They are filled with wonder and awe about the world around them. No matter what type of person, everyone will encounter changes. It is part of the natural process. A person is encouraged to make these changes for the good. Sammy, the boys, and Miss Emily all encounter changes in their lives that fulfill their need to become something different.

In this stage individuals are feeling left in limbo, having have moved on from their previous role but have not yet been incorporated into their new one. Individuals in this state often experience anger, depression and denial. Individuals who are unable to accept their new status can languish in a period of liminality. The final subcategory of status passage is the rite of incorporation. At this stage the individual has accepted the new status and is reasonably comfortable with the new lifestyle. This final subcategory can be hard to reach for some, but essential for all to reach in order to achieve acceptance of their inevitable situation, and to obtain a degree of personal comfort in their new role.

It is relative to time and a natural component of our everyday life. Things change, they grow, they develop, they die, and something else shows up. There are many changes that can occur during a person’s lifetime. For instance, we all were once kids who changed into adults. With that said, as we age, dreams change. There will always be something new in life and we can’t expect everything to fall in place as we wish because the future is constantly changing. In the age of globalization, information and communication revolution changes are affecting our lifestyles, our ways of thinking, feelings and the way we act. Life changes everyday for a person in some way. Just like we expect the seasons to change and children to grow older. Some changes are very small and can affect your life in an enormous way. However, other events can be very important and could change your whole life such as getting married, getting arrested, having a baby, and even losing a close friend or relative. The important events that altered my life are coming the United States, playing club soccer, becoming a U.S. citizen, going to graduate school and studying abroad. In this in paper, I will discuss how these phases transformed my life physically and mentally.
