From past to present, the advancement of technology make information and knowledge that enables people to communicate easily and quickly, until it can be applied widely. Shows that information technology is tools that can bring benefits come to appropriate education, if known to benefit and cost effective investment. And today can be considered a high technology device that has been a profound role that is "Computer", which is widely used in all industry. Especially, computer in education including uses of computers for educational administration, computers for teaching and learning, and computers for education service.
The roles of the computer are required to use in education. People use of computers for educational administration, an administration education is a critical factor to determine the direction of policy leading to the practical guide of education. Both locally and nationally, important to allow the administration to be effective, it is the availability of information in manages for decision making and policy educational. Computer is to play a role in the management of educational even more. This allows the operation database is located on at clear correct and optimal performance (Dr. Chaiyos Ruangsuwan, 2008). In Thailand, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology promoted schools to use “ICT (Information and Communication Technology)” in development administration education, personal development and policy making to be achieve the objective (Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, 2002). Therefore demonstrates that the computer or information technology used for manage it helps reduce errors.
In addition, people use computers for teaching and learning, this role can be considered is very important in education today. Because school has a student too many, so there is a computer-assisted instruction in teaching and learning in each course. Computer-assisted instruction is the applications of computer used as teaching media by writing or are established for objectives of the lesson. This program is similar to the lessons that students can learn at the rate their own ability. Which lesson that is written by a computer program is called "Computer-assisted instruction: CAI" (Chakkapong Jerjang, 1997). The advantages of using computer-assisted instruction are can be learned an unlimited time, motivate the students need to learn even more by the use of light, color and sound effects presentation, can be arranged lesson plans to meet the objectives of the teachers even more and can be requite individual needs. There is also a system that promotes the teaching and learning via a computer, called "E-learning".
Over the past few decades technology has advanced quite a bit. The use of calculators, computers, and other techniques in many fields has increased significantly. In a large scale, technology is replacing the method of instruction in the field of education. Many people believe that adopting technology in learning process can increase productivity. However, David Gelernter, who is a professor at Yale University as well as a leading figure in the field of technology, suggests to limit the use of technology in the classroom in his article “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom” which was published in the New Republic magazine in 1994. In this article he offers well illustrated analysis which makes the readers to regulate the use of technology in the classroom. He thinks that the technology comes in a way of building strong foundation of basic skills. He insists that computers should be used to aid the learning process, not to replace cognitive thinking.
David Gelernter author of the essay, “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom,” used some rhetorical appeals but not many in his essay, whilst trying to logically persuade his audience that computers could be utilized in the classroom, but under certain stipulations. Gelernter has great credibility for speaking on education and technology, as he is a professor of computer science at Yale University, so he more than anyone should know the outcomes of using a computer as a tool while teaching. However, when it comes to technology a lot of older generations usually are pretty biased when discussing technologies advancements, Gelernter still had some very good points! Using computers while teaching our young children can be useful but with strict moderations; when, where, and why, because if not heavily monitored, computers could be extremely detrimental to the learning experience and processes for many students.
Technology, one of the fastest growing industry in the world right now, it is also a characteristic that define how well and smart a country is. Simply because the ability and potential to accomplish great things that make technology really important, all this is proved through the fact that technology change the way people do things in every major, from nursing to even heavy manufacturing in factory. And there is no different in school, technology is used in student every day’s life, the most common device that every school have is computer. Computer is a powerful device that change the way student study completely, it make study more interesting, easy to understand and also allow students to do more things with their creativity.
For the teacher, computer technology can lead to more efficient time management in record keeping and developing lessons plans as well as the ease of conducting any kind of research and communication without having to leave the classroom.
Technology is also used as a tool in the method of teaching and learning for faster and easier education. It is now an academic necessity in this global world and every student needs a computer to use online sources and textbooks, search and write the projects and do the online homework.... ... middle of paper ... ...
The world’s technology advancements are quickly developing, thus, unquestionably, contributing to the extraordinary benefits obtained by students, parents, and educators. Students are provided an enhanced understanding of diverse subjects due to presentations, use of the Internet, and various programs, assisting them with projects, homework, tests, or merely general interest. Classroom computer use is certainly beneficial to parents as well. If a student does not have computer access at home to complete a project or essay, it could easily be completed on the classroom’s computer. This avoids any conflicts that may arise from families that do not have access to a personal computer. Teachers are able to easily compose a multimedia presentation to, not only help teach the class, but also to assist the pupils while taking notes and ensuring their understanding of the topic.
The last, the future of the new technology’s existence in the educational system will not be optimistic. The authors discussed the new technology change and update fast, that could cause the negative effect to students and teachers. They still prefer to use the “old technology” in learning and teaching . I agree with their concept because China had a big problem about using technology, and I studied in China several years. In China, the understanding of the new technology is so ignorant because of the poor education, shortage of technology. In education, the teachers and students do not understand how to use the computer technology to improve their teaching and learning rapidly. In short, understanding of the new technology and application skills are more important to adjust educational system in developing countries.
In less than a decade, computer use progressed from programming classes for a few of the better students, to literacy classes for all students, to the integration of computers and technology into the curriculum. Now, there is a goal for educators to use technology as a tool in efforts to teach more effectively by using a variety of strategies to meet different needs in a diverse classroom. This will take training and commitment to keep up in an area that changes quickly, but the benefits to teachers and students are greater that the effort it will take to stay informed; computers increase productivity of students and make learning a fun experience. They help students become better problem-solvers instead of just rote learners.
The Impact of Computers on Education Technology is all around us these days. If you don't understand the basics of computers and how to run one, your choices of jobs and things to do are limited. Almost everywhere you go and every job you can think of uses computers. For this reason, computers have become a big part of the education system. I'm planning on teaching elementary students, so I researched the impact that computers have had on teachers and students.
Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.
The introduction of technology into education has revolutionized the teaching quality and learning outcome in the last ten years. The integration of technology into lectures by teachers in classroom has become so natural that both teachers and learners consider computers and their related applications for instruction are “a routine component of the classroom and educational processes in general” (Nuldén, 1999 cited in Buzzard et al., 2011, pp.131-139).
Modern technology has made it so much easier to obtain educational information for classroom or homework assignments. It offers educational games that stimulate the brain and help children who have difficulties focusing on traditional teaching and learning procedures. College students are even taking advantage of online courses that many colleges are offering as an alternative to physically attending classes. Advances in technology and computers will continue to play an important role in education for many generations to come.
Learning another language provides high rewards including “improved cultural understandings, communication abilities and job prospects.” (Preston and Seedhouse, 2013) Because of the rapid development of technology, applying an array of media is being presented to students in different parts of the world in an effort to achieve different purposes such as educational needs.
Over the years it has been seen that education has taken up several forms. With the advent of technology, education has also been integrated with technology. Previously it was seen that education was achieved through written forms of paper with pen or pencil. The use of pen and pencil can be dated back to the Roman Empire. However, with the developing pace the traditional means of attaining education are changing. The introduction of information technology has brought forth a new way of learning through the internet. E-learning is the new form of education introduced by IT which helps people to attain knowledge through the use of their computers. A portal is introduced by the use of information technology which the students are able to access and to take tests. However, this new technology also brings with it other ethical issues of plagiarism and social contact. Online education is an inadequate alternative for traditional, classroom-based teaching for several reasons: there is no interactive communication between the student and the instructor, potential employers do not value online course work, class offerings are limited, instructor feedback to the student might be delayed for days, and group projects are nonexistent.
Technology has many different effects on education, one of them being enhancing the students learning. Technology may enhance the students learning and may assist most students in achieving their academic standards. When technology and appropriate teaching methods are combined, technology may increase the academic achievement. Positive effects have been found in all major subject areas, from preschool to higher education, both regular and special needs students. Educational technology has been found to have a positive effect on a student’s attitude toward learning and on self-concepts. The introduction of technology into the learning environment has allowed the learning to be more student-centered, to encourage group learning, and helps to stimulate an increase in the student-teacher interaction. Technology has shown a shift from a focus on a student’s memorization to their problem solving. Through technology’s use, learning opportunities have become unrestricted by time or place, allowing lifelong learning. Student use of technology through communications can also help to enhance access to a career and continued education. Students are more likely to use a computer to get help because they can to it themselves. Technology is helping students to become independent.
