Avant Garde is unusual and experimental art, styles, ideas, etc… Picasso’s Cubism is a good example of this. The Italian Renaissance was probably the single most avant-garde time in the history of painting and sculpture. Nudity became acceptable and recognized as a noble type of art. Impressionism also played a large role in Avant Garde. Suddenly colors became unorthodoxed, for example, grass could be red, the sky could be brown, People could be blue, etc… In the early 20th century Fauvism, the style of les Fauves (French for "the wild beasts"), a loose group of early twentieth-century Modern artists whose works emphasized painterly qualities
and strong color over the representational or realistic values retained by Impressionism, became more popular. Around that time Die Brucke started a style know as German Expressionism in Dresden, Munich and Berlin. The most iconoclastic movement of all time may have been Dada, which was founded by Tristan Tzara. Sigmund Freud also founded Surrealism, a 20th-century art form in which an artist or writer combines unrelated images or events in a very strange and dreamlike way.
All the artist during that time all portrayed similar ideas that were introverted abstract art. Artist started portraying common objects in an abstract expressionism that were aggressive and emotional. During this era, Basquiat and other similar artist created pieces that were rich in detail that demonstrated different aspects of life. During this art movement, many people considered it be controversial and didn’t find the artwork to be intriguing. This movement started in Germany and later on settled in the United States. Neo-Expressionists were sometimes called Neue Wilden (“The Wild Ones”). The word Expressionism was a movement in poetry and in paintings and this is usually would present the subjective
violence and change. Artists who worked in traditional media such as painting and sculpture, and in an eclectic range of styles. Some people went with the movement while others opposed it. I enjoy the different types of eclectic movement in art such as the paintings, drawings and the designs. It was not until 1911 that a distinctive futurist style emerged and then it was a product of Cubist influence. Futurism was not immediately identified with a distinctive style. Futurists were fascinated by the problems of representing modern experience, and strived to have their paintings evoke all kinds of sensations and not merely those visible to the eye. Futurist art brings to mind noise, heat, and even smell of the metropolis.
Art Nouveau is the Decorative style of the late 19th century and the early 20th that flourished principally in Europe and the USA. Although it influenced painting and sculpture, its chief manifestations were in architecture and the decorative and graphic arts. It is characterized by sinuous, asymmetrical lines based on organic forms; in a broader sense it encompasses the geometrical and more abstract patterns and rhythms that were evolved as part of the general reaction to 19th-century historicism. There are wide variations in the style according to where it appeared and the materials that were employed
An Avant-garde is someone who is ahead of his time. He is a person who is willing to cross new boundaries and to try new things. The meaning of an Avant-garde is a group or an individual who is active in the invention and application of new techniques in a given field. Who else could this definition fit better than John Cage himself? He himself believed that he was someone who wanted to invent new music. ?Cage considered himself a musical inventor? (Page 83, 20/20). John Cage?s art or experiment as you might see it, is definitely a great achievement is the field of music. His Sonata No 5 for prepared piano, which was written in 1948, was one of the greatest music he ever wrote.
During the sixties Americans saw the rise of the counterculture. The counterculture, which was a group of movements focused on achieving personal and cultural liberation, was embraced by the decade’s young Americans. Because many Americans were members of the different movements in the counterculture, the counterculture influenced American society. As a result of the achievements the counterculture movements made, the United States in the 1960s became a more open, more tolerant, and freer country.

There was a large aesthetic movement which was also inherent in this "new" culture. This movement classified art as being done for art's sake. Art was now being viewed as separate from society.
Game of Thrones is a fantasy series known for it’s violence and use of nudity. The story line in the show is complex and compelling. The viewer stays on the edge of their seats as the plot twists and turns. For the plot to succeed nudity is needed, and some sex scenes are key parts in the series. The problem in occurs due to the sheer amount of nudity. With an average of 5.6 boobs per episode it is clear that nudity plays a large part in the series.Game of Thrones deals with the social issue of oversexualization and female objectification throughout the series. The way the show deals with the issue is interesting and complex. While strong female characters exist sex seems to always find it’s way into each episode. The unnecessary nudity added brings the viewers to a point of feeling uncomfortable. Game of Thrones makes an attempt to empower women. However the oversexualization within the show negates empowerment and instead demeans women.
and means New Art. It was an extraordinary movement in art history from the end
The movement art nouveau was established during the 1890s .It lacked the grandiose aura about its presence and techniques that art deco possessed but made up for this with longevity in its impact and success as an art movement. Art nouveau is a movement that has been inspired by forms of nature itself and this was represented in the results of nouveau inspired products such as curtains with excessively frilly trimmings and the influx of indoor gardens or greenhouses. the main forms of this natural influence on this art for was vegetation which what basically flowers petals branches etc. At this early stage, mass publications of art and design were being shown in museums and also public and local galleries which was the fragile start of art nouveau cultural life.
People decided to rebel against the political and social rules of their time and started a new trend of art. It conveyed dramatic subjects perceived with strong feelings and imagination.
People often end up on the opposite sides of the argument concerning the fine line between art and pornography. Artists sometimes include nude depictions or descriptions of the human form in their work. The artists and many other liberals and citizens of the art world argue that it is important for artists to feel the freedom to express themselves in any way that they wish. The problem with this liberty is that many people find the nude body offensive and believe that these images should not be considered art but pornography instead. This is a valid and important dilemma, but as Dennis Barrie describes art in a speech that was published in Art Journal, “…sometimes art is not beautiful, and sometimes it’s challenging, and sometimes it’s even offensive, and yet it can be art, even if it’s all those things” (Barrie 30). Artists should always be allowed to express themselves fully and not fear public reprimand despite the risk they may run of offending people who cannot appreciate their work.
In order to explore new venues of creativity Modernists tinkered with the perception of reality. During the Renaissance, the depiction of a subject was very straight forward. A painting had to look like what it represented. The truth was absolute and right and wrong were clearly defined. For Modernists, the world is much more obscure. In Impressionist paintings, lines are not definite and things tend to blur together. Faces usually do not differentiate one person from another.
One of the most prominent Post-Impressionist artists was Vincent Van Gogh. His work is best known for its rough ascetic and bold colors. Van Gogh favored fauvism, which was a movement that implemented vivid expressionistic and non-naturalistic color. Van Gogh’s color was typically saturated and arbitrary. Most of Van Gogh’s paintings show gestural brushwork and examples include: Starry Night and Wheatfield with Cypresses. Also, he often experimented with different perspectives.
Avant-garde mainly refers to a movement of artists and thinkers that oppose mainstream cultural values. This usually leads to an instantaneous rejection by the majority of society and a possible late recognition. It brings new ideas that society find hard to absorb. As described in his article “the Avant-garde, rarely love at first sight,” New York Times reporter, Margo Jefferson, new taste is rejected at first: “It may be that the viewer is a philistine or the critic a fraud. But it also may be that the brush with an unfamiliar theatrical form was too brief and too unexpected. Experimental theater, after all, is an acquired taste - like aged cheese or raw fish. It is an experience that needs some effort, some study and some time.” (Jefferson)
