Game of Thrones is a fantasy series known for it’s violence and use of nudity. The story line in the show is complex and compelling. The viewer stays on the edge of their seats as the plot twists and turns. For the plot to succeed nudity is needed, and some sex scenes are key parts in the series. The problem in occurs due to the sheer amount of nudity. With an average of 5.6 boobs per episode it is clear that nudity plays a large part in the series.Game of Thrones deals with the social issue of oversexualization and female objectification throughout the series. The way the show deals with the issue is interesting and complex. While strong female characters exist sex seems to always find it’s way into each episode. The unnecessary nudity added brings the viewers to a point of feeling uncomfortable. Game of Thrones makes an attempt to empower women. However the oversexualization within the show negates empowerment and instead demeans women.
Not all of the women within the show are used as props. Game of Thrones does

The problem is she derived her power from sex. Right after the sex scene she becomes equal in Khal Drogo’s mind, and Daenerys falls in love with Khal Drogo. Even after the gruesome scene everything turns out alright, and Daenerys all but forgets about what happened to her. Game of Thrones sets the stage against women. The way Daenerys gains her power is by being sold as a slave and slowly changing how she has sex with her husband. Her power came from her sexuality and thats a problem. Much of the power that women are able to achieve in the show is based off of sexuality. Weather they are married into power or sleep with someone powerful women do not gain power without a man. Even with a wide array of characters women are still unable to find power without a
Sex and Gender was the subject of the two movies Dreamworlds 3 and Further Off The Straight & Narrow. In Dreamworlds 3 Sex is portrayed as a status of life and happiness in the media. This media displays people as objects that can be manipulated for sexual pleasure. As the media is populated with sex it tiptoes around gender, specifically that of gays or lesbians. The film Further Off The Straight & Narrow emphasized the movement through media gay and lesbian topics. This text analyzes iconic television programs and how they reflect the societal stance during that time. As a member of a generation that has had the topic of these issues prominent I believe they are important but are banal. In this reflection I will be responding to two questions, what would woman driven Dreamworlds look like? And Do you agree with the statement that if you are not on television you don’t exist?
...he realization of having sex to young and getting pregnant. Even though these shows reveal some struggle that these young girls have being pregnant and having to raise a child at a young age, I also believe it shows the fascination of it, young girls are impressionable and they only see the families helping these girls, the fun to play dress up and buy nice things for a baby. To a girl that may just want to feel loved or have something to love these shows may give the wrong impression of the way to receive it. I do not believe any show of this nature can help the generation of the girls today. I believe any television show or music that exploits sex, nudity, or body image should be banned or never published to save this generation. Social media needs to have stricter bans with signing up to their sites to try and eliminate under age children to experience it.

Often in videogames female roles are over sexualized and over dramatized within the limited supportive roles that they play, often playing the role of the sidekick. When their the protagonist they’re reduced to nothing but sex icons to appeal to men. Often scantily dressed and a bust size within the D cup and up range. Characters like Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider Series debutting in 1996 and Bayonetta in her own series called Bayonetta which released in 2010. Yet even though they are far apart in terms of release they both feature a lead female role whom dresses in an obscene manner. Why is this? The simple truth is that sex sells, games with female characters with mini skirts and tight shirts generally manage to sell decently well. This causes an issue in the min...
It is apparent in ancient society that women were seen as lesser than men, that their value was based off of who they were married to or who their father was. There was no way for a woman to have her own power, they could not do anything alone. The series Game of Thrones is set to be in medieval times, though not in our universe. It very blatantly shows themes of the time period, which are still seen in society today to a point. Blatant misogyny is shown throughout the series as the stronger female leads have to deal with this prejudice as they grow.
As a society, we are confronted daily with pornographic images, they feature in our newspapers, on our film screens, and even in our novels. This voyeuristic obsession the media holds has for a long time been desensitizing us to depictions of violence and sex, but has it also disabled us in being able to see the difference between what is carefully constructed satire and what is merely pornography?
Since women technically had no power without the help of a man, she had to be sly and crafty to get what she wanted. The perfect example of this is the teller of all these stories. Shahrazad the Vizier’s eldest daughter, willingly chooses to become the King’s next bride to be. “‘Give me in marriage to this King: either I shall die and be a ransom for the daughters of Moslems, or live and be the cause of their deliverance.’”. (pg19) Shahrazad tricked the King into keeping her alive by telling him stories and stopping in the middle of it to survive another night. Her plan works and not only is she spared but thanks to her, the king realizes that women are eloquent, and that they can be trusted. She also saved the lives of other girls since the king no longer needs a new woman every night. In The Tale of Al- Haddar, the barber’s second brother is tricked into shaving his beard and dye his eyebrows by a beautiful woman. This demonstrates that one should not to conclusions, even if it is a pretty
Daenerys Stormborn of the house Targaryen takes on many roles in the show. She ranges from a sex object to later on a powerful, ruthless Iron Maiden. All the transformations take place very quickly as she changes before the audiences eyes. The first time Daenerys appears on the screen people see a 18-20 year old with bleach blonde hair, not more than a minute later her dress is dropped to floor revealing her breasts to the viewer as she is getting into a bath. She is getting ready to see her to be husband for the first time, she’s anxious to see if he will accept her. Daenerys is being given as a gift to Khal Drogo in order to help her brother Viserys move closer to the crown. Daenerys is treated like a piece of property, the same as a clay pot or gold piece, instead of being her brothers property she would become Drogo’s. Viserys makes sure to tell Daenerys she better please Drogo, sexually, otherwise the “gift” would have been a bad one.
Daenerys Targaryen is an important character in the show Game of Thrones. Her physical traits represent a young woman, she has light eyes, pale skin, and long, pale silver-gold hair. Daenerys has a slender frame and is definitely conventionally attractive. Daenerys Targaryen, also known as the ‘mother of dragons’ and matriarch; she embodies the qualities of the warrior-mother who fiercely nurtures and protects what is hers. At one point she has three dragons, her dragons, fly above her symbolize the rise of Targaryen power. As fantastical creatures, they also represent freedom. She can pretty much get the dragons to do whatever she wants and she also cannot be burned by fire.
A common trend in the entertainment industry today is the objectification of women in society. Sexualizing women are seen in media such as; movies, advertisement, television show and music video, where their main focus is providing the audience with an image of women as sexual objects rather than a human. This is detrimental to society since the media is producing social stereotypes for both genders, which can further result in corrupted social habits. Objectification in media are more focused on females than male, these false images of women leave individuals with the wrong idea of the opposite sex. As media continuously use sexual contents regarding women, the audience starts underestimating women. Specifically movies, it allows media to shape the culture’s idea of romance, sex and what seems
Pornography can be defined as printed or visual material displaying erotic descriptions or visuals of sexual body parts or sexual activity, and is largely aimed to appeal to a male audience through sexual scenarios which often dehumanize and exploit women and their bodies. Though largely, pornography is is designed to please a masculinized audience, there are some feminists, from multiple genders, who aim to “reclaim their right to enjoy sexual images without violence and negativity” (Klinger). Ideally, pornography would be a context in which there would be a conscious movement towards eliciting a healthy reclamation of sexually charged images from all genders- especially women. Those against pornography usually emphasize the specifics of porn as it occurs in modern culture. Oftentimes anti-pornography feminists point out the extremely male-oriented vision of sexuality, the sexism, and with descriptions such as: “women presented as dehumanized sexual objects, things, or commodities; shown as enjoying humiliation, pain, or sexual assault; tied up, mutilated, or physically hurt; depicted in postures or positions of sexual submission or servility; shown with body parts- including though not limited to vagina, breast, or buttocks- exhibited such that women are reduced to those parts; women penetrated by animals or objects; and women presented in scenarios of degradation, humiliation, or torture, shown as filthy or inferior, bleeding, bruised, or hurt in a context that makes these conditions sexual” (MacKinnon). As the pornography industry is now, it contributes to the ideals of rape culture by fetishizing femininity and female “fragility” and/or “innocence”. This obviously misogynistic practice also creates a reliance on understanding...
One of the most prominent and detrimental forms of sexual objectification is in pornography, where it defines a woman’s role as a sexual object for men to use freely (Insert Plato Citation). It was concluded that 88% of the scenes on porn contain acts of physical aggression, which can overexpose men into thinking that this sort of aggression is normal and raise their tolerance of violence (Insert PornStats Citation). It can further warp the minds of the watchers into thinking that this is what relationships and sex are truly like, when in reality many women are forced into the industry or are overly intoxicated to keep the entire experience feeling numb (Insert ThePinkCross Citation). Pornography also touches in on an even darker subject of pedophilia, or the paraphilia involving sexual attraction to prepubescent children. Pedophilia is mostly found in males, who are also the sex that is 543% more likely to watch pornography (Insert PornStats Citation). Television shows and movies exhibit men of all shapes, sizes, and ages married or dating women of one body type, which is usually young and slender. The combination of the media and pornography feeding into the desires for young, petite girls by exposing them in an explicit way leads to the statistic that one in five men are capable of being sexually aroused by children, to some degree, though they may never act on those feelings (Insert TheGuardian Citation). On the other hand, it is still likely to see people telling young girls to not dress in a revealing manner. In the way society uses this, it is almost an oxymoron. The media is telling girls to look a certain way and when they do they are shamed for it. It should be left at if a girl is too young to be wearing ‘that short of...
Media has been filled with exaggerated scrutinies and trashed with unreasonable criticisms. It deserves a break. This is the generation of Information Technology. Danger is just around the corner, where a click from a mouse or a remote control and all sex-related garbage can pop out of the monitor. Truly, a vulnerable teenager can easily get lost to temptations. As an adolescent, I can empathize how these sweet girls feel about how horrible their body shapes are, how ugly their face is, and how brands in fashion seem to be worth more than anything in the world. Fashion labels, tiny bodies, and sexual activities are all characterized in Sex and the City. From th...
Pornography degrades the moral values of a society. With increased pornography in the contemporary society, sex is no longer a sacred act shared between two people who love each other. Sex has been abused by many people, while there has been an increase in promiscuity (Sabo 150). In addition, the perceptions that people have about sex and women has changed. Women are seen as objects or instruments of sexual satisfaction. They are no longer respected while men expect sexual gratification from acts that can even be termed as beastly. The effects are far reaching as young people as young as 12 years have been fed with the same perception (Peter and Valkenburg 179).
In a radically different world, “Game of Thrones” takes place in a medieval land, where kings, queens, lords, ladies, warriors, knights, servants, priests, priestesses and prostitutes all play a role in a political battle of wills, but its hard to ignore the harsh reality of life for women in Westeros. Both shows depict the struggle of women navigating their way through a male dominated world and the lose of their morals and virtues along the way. (Thomas)
