The Renaissance could be considered as an awakening for Europeans from the dark middle ages. Humanity took a remarkable leap forward during and after the Renaissance. People became more individual and confident in the new lifestyle that they lived. The renaissance shifted how people viewed their purpose and individuality in art, literature, astronomy, and anatomy.
Art has always had a monumental influence on history all throughout the planet. Despite how much art changes and evolves, it always seems to serve a big purpose for people. Two paintings that display an altar in art are The Madonna Enthroned Between Two Angels by Duccio di Buoninsegna as well as Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. The Madonna Enthroned Between Two Angels by Duccio di Buoninsegna during the Middle Ages shows a more religious subject matter and is created more two dimensional. Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci created towards the end of the Renaissance shows more defined landscapes, natural folds in drapery, and three dimensional figures.
Literature played a big role in the development of people during the Renaissance. Two pieces of literature that show a change are Everyman written by an unknown author in 1485 and an excerpt from Act 2, Scene 2 of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, 1601. Everyman's ideas about sin change as he gets older and he also becomes more positive about it.

The excerpt from Hamlet by William Shakespeare is more focused on how amazing man really is. Shakespeare exclaims, ¨What a piece of work is a man!¨ which shows his admiration to a human and all we are capable of as ourselves. In addition, the excerpt also informs the reader that Shakespeare viewed a man seeing his angelike or godly qualities. These two forms of literature show how man became more individual and branched away from religion. During the Renaissance, astronomy became more precise and understandable.
Ptolemy, was a Roman astronomer who lived about 100 years after the time of jesus created a diagram of how he thought the universe worked, geocentric. On the contrary, Nicolaus Copernicus, who lived from 1473 to 1543 relied mostly on mathematics, referring to the universe as being heliocentric. Copernicus's theory of the universe was upsetting to the church on account of his ideas being based more on mathematics rather than the church’ beliefs. Copernicus made the perspective of man's dominance in a powerful world show to be no longer
sustainable. During Medieval Times, the constellations were believed to control health and well being of different body parts of the body, like how the constellations of stars called Aries the Ram were believed to control the head. The theory of constellations controlling health and well being were based off of a woodcut called Zodiac Man by a German astronomer, Johann Regiomontanus. Vesalius, the creator of the anatomy book On The Makeup Of The Human Body created a structure of what he believed the human body looked like based on his dissection of human corpses. Vesalius´s creation is far more accurate on account of his research and actual dissections of the human body. This shows how the Renaissance modified man's view of man because man has been educated with proof. The renaissance shifted how people viewed their purpose and individuality in art, literature, astronomy, and anatomy. The Renaissance was a time of discovery, and one of the most important ways how boring and same old we were in so many ways, yet just how unique we were in others. We started to see ourselves and our world with a scientific eye that was more accurate than ever. The renaissance was our key to more success and growth. The world will continue to follow humanism each and every day.
What does the word “renaissance” mean? It means “rebirth” or “revival” and the Renaissance was a period of change that began around 1350 to 1700. Before the Renaissance, there was the Middle Ages which people had little education and were more religious. Then, in the 1300s there was a movement called humanism which made people more educated and drew them into arts, literature, science, and medicine in the Renaissance. In the mid-1400s the printing press was made and gave humanism have even more momentum because more people could buy books. how did the Renaissance change man’s view of the world? The Renaissance changed a man’s view of the world in three ways: emphasis on individualism, emphasis on embracing this life(yolo), and emphasis on
In his book, Repcheck recounts how a Catholic Church cleric invented a highly complicated theory of the heavens’ architecture. Copernicus made a breakthrough by solving a significant astronomical problem. Everybody except the astronomers had earlier accepted Aristotle’s concept that heavenly objects revolved around the earth in perfectly circular orbits. The astronomers were opposed to this notion since their calculations could not work according to it. Repcheck introduces Ptolemy who described a cosmos in which the earth positioned itself somewhat off-center and other heavenly bodies revolved in one circular orbit inside a second ideal circle at changeable speeds. Even though Ptolemy’s model was rather complicated, astronomers found it to be reasonable in their calculations. Astronomers were still using this new concept even 1500 years later. In this regard, the author starts to bring Copernicus into the picture.
The European Renaissance occurring from 1450 to 1650, marked a change that led to many developments in art, religion, literature and the economy. The impact of the Renaissance changed the thinking and life. The society saw a rise in creativity, in ambition and in politics. During the Renaissance (the rebirth) achievement in art especially rose, though depending on where the Renaissance was, it was a different experience all around. Renaissance art in Italy and southern Europe had more of a grecian theme, while northern Renaissance focused more on life and mythology.
Though the Renaissance era included all of Europe, Italy was the cradle of the movement. The cities of Florence, Rome and Venice were of great importance to this period. Major artists created art mainly in these three. As the center of Italy, Rome held the residence of the Pope and many other important factors. Throughout history, the Roman Catholic Church was very insistent on promoting their ideas. During this time, they used artists and their creativity to promote the Bible and other aspects of their beliefs. Artists were paid, or commissioned by patrons (often the Pope) to create art they wanted. One of the most ambitious patrons was Pope Julius II, who realized the impact visual images had on people’s ideas (Kleiner, 599). Pope Julius II was called the warring Pope, because he often went and involved himself in wars. He also held very humanistic ideas. Because of this, Michelangelo’s relationship to Pope Julius II was very different from his relationship with Pope Leo X, who succeeded Julius II. Julius, because of his adaptions to humanistic thoughts, he let Michelangelo express himself to the fullest, even when forcing him to paint the Sistine Chapel. Leo X, however, was very critical of everything Michelangelo set out upon. This resulted a strained relationship, and eventually abandonment of projects that were supposed to be completed. It is clear that Pope Julius II had a liking for Michelangelo, while the Medici’s looked on him as a type of lowly artist subject to their will.
The Renaissance was a period of time in which beautiful literature and progressive ideology from the Greek and Roman times was revived. One comparison comes to mind when it comes to the Renaissance. Imagine that the only English you have ever read was written by tax attorneys and dentists, it would be very dry and dull. But imagine if you dug around in your parents basement and stumbled upon the great works of F. Scott Fitzgerald (For Dummies 2016). This is essentially what occurred during the Renaissance. It brought upon several great changes, one significant change that occurred in the Renaissance era was the introduction of humanism. Humanism, at the time, focused on the secular and not on heaven or hell. This new way of thinking influenced
For my analytical essay I've chosen the Renaissance art movement. I choose this movement because it played such a monumental part in European history. Basically, the Renaissance, also known as the rebirth, was a cultural movement that started an artistic transformation and started the scientific revolution. This time period also links the transition from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the Modern Age. The Renaissance started in Italy in the 14th century and spread to northern Europe by the 16th century.
The Renaissance Effect The Renaissance was a period of rebirth and revival for a fractured Europe. This period began around 1400 AD and lasted until approximately 1700. During this time, the Renaissance spread from its origins in Italy to Northern and Western Europe. It transformed a fragmented and declining society into a thriving civilization. The Renaissance changed man's view of himself through advancements in art, literature, the universe, and medicine.
During my second time visiting the museum, I looked at paintings from the 15th and 19th centuries. Two of the art works that I choose is “The Story of Joseph” from the Renaissance period and “The Marketplace” from the modern art period. Both of these paintings were from different time periods but they were also very similar in content and style.
The difference between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance is most visible through art and architecture, demonstrated specifically through an emphasis on religion or classical antiquity, and humanity. During the Middle Ages, art was more religious because it had a very religious influence from the church having such great power in the community. When the Renaissance started, art became more focused on ancient Greece. The Greek influence was because scholars were broadly studying the revival of classical antiquity. The architecture was affected in the same way because in the Middle Ages the style of the buildings was being influenced by religion. The style in the Renaissance was being more influenced by ancient Greece.
As previously stated, the renaissance was the rebirth of society. What led to this was a decrease in faith because of the great schism, a conflict between two popes, where both said they were the pope. People were starting to take a secular view compared to what the church told them to believe. Society was changing to where individual viewpoints mattered. With politics starting to matter, and a better economy, places were beginning to be city centered, specifically city states, which are urban societies that have taken secular views.
The Renaissance was a time of change. It began in Italy during the 14th century, and spread throughout the North. People all over Europe were affected, for the better and for the worse. Some people finally had a chance to control their own fate. Others, like upper class women, lost their social status. The values and purposes of Renaissance education were to improve the society, increase the economy, and restore the religious beliefs.
The Renaissance was a period of enlightenment in Europe that lasted from 1350 to 1648. During this time Europe went through a period of awakening, meaning that everyone was eager to learn more about life, the universe, arts, humanities, science, and more. During this period there were many advancements in society, technology, and education. The progress that occurred during this time solidified the foundation for modern Europe.
The Renaissance period started in Italy and took place between the 1400’s and the 1600’s. In French, the term Renaissance means rebirth, which is an accurate way to describe that period since it was then that many people chose to break away from the stagnation, incertitude, and extreme hardships that occurred during the Middle Ages and plagued most of Europe. The Renaissance period is noted for being a time when the population sought educational reform which increased literacy and many were able to master more than one skill set. This led to an intellectual, economic, and artistic revolution that transformed several European nations such as Italy, France, Spain, and several others. During this time, there were several developments within the Catholic Church, such as scandals and controversy. Because of that, many people were driven away from the traditions of the church and sought more freedom of expression and individualism. As economies improved, there was more wealth and a desire for self improvement which greatly influenced the arts.
Art and culture flourished throughout Europe during the Renaissance. It was the period when Michelangelo wielded his chisel, Galileo defied preconceived notions about the universe and
The Renaissance had many implications towards the European society. Firstly, the Renaissance has affected the mediaeval scholasticism which has kept the thoughts of the human in that current time to be bonded. The useless controversies based on the principles of Aristotelian, and the philosophy behind Christianity, was put behind, thus giving birth to a new form of literature, more advanced, and more humane.
