The process of recruiting, hiring, and maintaining staff is critical in the hospitality industry. The employees serve as direct branding and marketing for the company, supplying the customers, or guests, with an experience that meets, exceeds, or fails expectations. The experience given by the employees ultimately determines the satisfaction of new and repeat guests, therefore guiding the company toward its level of success. In my personal experiences of working at hotels, the interaction between employee and guest is the most important. Due to the important role of every employee, there must be a strong foundation and expectation for hiring those who are qualified. This will require a company to identify clear job descriptions along with qualifications and skills to accomplish the desired goals. Strong research and strategies into the recruitment and hiring of select employees will prove to be necessary to create the basis for a successful and thriving organization.

A few methods that would be very valuable in this situation are electronic media (radio, internet, and television ads), inn...

With such an immense goal combined with a very ambitious, driven company, the key to success is in the understanding, research, and strategic planning of the recruitment efforts. The process must be well-defined and acknowledged by those leading the recruitment efforts. Having a clear understanding of the task at hand will make the recruitment of potential employees more productive.

When it came to innovation for recruiting a large number of highly qualified people in a relatively short amount of time, an Atlantic City organization called Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa notably did. This creative organization faced the requirement to hire at least 5,000 employees, for all positions in order to support a 2002 room casino and resort. They resourcefully came up with a “recruitment campaign that resulted in 30,000 well-qualified job applicants.” They even deployed a “mobile unit that took teams of staffers to the streets of Atlantic City with laptops, bringing applications directly to the public.” Schadler, J.
