My third positive influencer has been an angel. Last year I finally found a church I enjoy going to where I feel at home. I was raised in a good christian home and every Sunday and Wednesday you could find us at church but once I moved to Louisville I had a time finding a church that felt like home until I visited TKC. Sherry has been nothing but amazing she automatically took me under her wing and introduced me to other church members. As a result I strive to be a great leader and share my knowledge and skills they have instilled in me with others. Leaders often talk about trust, rather than building trust. Trust is something that must be earned. Leaders of well-respected, high-performing organizations have long known the value of building and sustaining trust.
Engendering trust is an important factor for organizational success and the welfare of its employees; however, encouraging and maintaining trust can be difficult and demanding at times. Trust is essential to an effective team. A team lacking trust isn't really a team at all, it's just a group of people who work together. They unsuccessfully communicate with one another effectively, fail to share important information, and they often don't cooperate or work well with one another. As a result, they are not cohesive, nor do they collaborate efficiently as a group.
The most effective commanders through their leadership build cohesive teams. Mutual trust, shared understanding, and accepting prudent risk serve as just a few principles for mission command. Mutual trust is the foundation of any successful professional relationship that a commander shares with his staff and subordinates. The shared understanding of an operational environment functions, as the basis for the commander to effectively accomplish the mission. While my advice for the commander on what prudent risks to take may create more opportunities rather than accepting defeat. Incorporating the principles of mission command by building cohesive teams through mutual trust, fostering an environment of shared understanding, and accepting prudent risk will make me an effective adviser to the commander, aid the staff during the operations process, and provide an example for Soldiers to emulate.
As a senior/team leader/ manager it is important to build upon skills which create a strong team in order for the team to be effective in their performance. By developing and establishing trust and accountability within the team you can assure that there is an open and honest relationship between team members and team leader. A major factor which is essential to teamwork is trust; it means that the individuals can feel supported by the other team members to take appropriate risks and feel comfortable enough to share ideas as well as owning up to their mistakes, which will not necessarily happen in a team where the trust is limited. Without trust there is less collaborative work and often people will protect themselves and their best interest
For the teams that have trust issues, what is the best way to combat that? Lencioni has some amazing resources in the back of the book and he says, “it requires shared experiences over time, multiple instances of follow-through and credibility, and an in-depth understanding of the unique attributes of team members” (2002, p. 197). I pulled a few things out of that, first, it is going to take time, maybe a lot of time. My favorite part what the last of truly understanding the team members. Credibility holds significance in a leadership position. According to Kouzes and Posner, the foundation of leadership is the act of credibility (2012). Without credibility, organizations can deteriorate. The lack of credibility in a leadership role creates mistrust and ill feelings towards leaders. These burdens constituents carry, disrupts the organization of being successful. Leaders should full understand credibility. Credibility is earned when leaders set example and commit to their words (Kouzes & Posner, 2012). When credible is present within an organization, constituents are more motivated, committed, and feel a strong sense of team spirit for their company (Kouzes & Posner, 2012).
Trust is very important to the people cause for them to trust the leader he or she must show they can be trusted. If the leader doesn't show he or she can be trusted the people will not trust or how trust worth in the leader. A fact of trust is like saying all people can have equal rights and have far rights and let the people know he or she can be trusted. A fact of not showing he or she can be trusted is like not showing the people he or she can be trusted, or like not letting people have their rights. Mainly if someone wants to be leader they must show and let the people know their trust worthy.
Leaders are dishonest. Although some are unintentionally dishonest, it can lead to the deterioration of trust between the leader and his or her followers. An ideal leader is effective when there is trust established between both the leader and the followers. According to Michelle Bligh, trust is an “expectation or belief that one can rely on another person's actions and words and that the person has good intentions to carry out their promises” (21). Leaders gain trust when they are consistently honest and communicate well with their followers. In return, followers respect an honest leader and obey commands without issues. What is trust? Is trust essential for the way we live our everyday life? Trust is a quality or condition of being trustworthy; loyal; reliable. I think trust is an essential way of life because you cannot make a relationship, friendship, a business, or an organization if there is no foundation. Part of that foundation is trust and loyalty because you should be able to depend, rely, and trust others that they will do exactly what is right for them and you. Trust can be broken so quick, it is scary, because once trust is broken it is a lot harder to gain back then when you first gained trust in someone. This relates to my life because my trust with my dad was alerted going into my freshman year.
Trust is built by trusting team members and communicate about any issues that arises in the team. You would make commitment and believe in your ability to get the job done.
