I have designed a logo and slogan that is relatable to affected females who are not receiving enough recognition in sports. I have chosen two classical sports, American Football and Association Football. My design choices are unlimited to these specific sports, instead, are for a powerful movement. In effect, the pink background color and the symbolic symbol of the unspecified gender demonstrates a concise idea of which gender advocates the protest. In addition, I positioned my sports icons near my symbolic representation of the unspecified gender, to create proximity.
The slogan, "Worthy of Attention" acts as an endorsement for the lack of attention given to the female sex; so in hope enlighten unaware individuals being passive about this
issue. Females, in general, do not get that much support in things. And this is often reflected in the world we live in, where it is controlled by male dominance. In all, "Worthy of attention" is brief and abbreviated without needing to appear belligerent and promote violence. But unite a constructive plead that will bring awareness to this dire problem society continue to shrug off. The font for the logo and slogan is clear and readable, making it easier to understand and not scintillating with extravagant details. Overall, the logo and slogan is designed to bring about a change and encourage more people to become proactive in an occurrent problem.,
The Dick’s Sporting Goods commercial was ranked number 9 in the most effective commericals. The commercial shows the different struggles that athletes in training face for the USA Olympics. The audience for this commercial is intended for both genders. Although the stereotype is that sports are usually for males, this commercial has a fair representation of both male and female athletes. Many of the female athletes shown are training in hard sports such as boxing and lifting weights. This commercial also included disabled male and female athletes which can also serve to be another audience. This commercial was promoting Dick’s Sporting Good athletic attire. The advertiser did not include an unequal representation of genders, also the commercial didn’t use gender stereotypes to please the audience.
The film “A League of Their Own,” depicts a fictionalized tale of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. This league was started during World War II when many of the Major Leagues Biggest stars were drafted to the war. MLB owners decided to start this league with hopes of making money while the men were overseas fighting. Traditional stereotypes of women in sports were already in force before the league even begins. One of the scouts letts Dottie, one of the films main characters she is the perfect combination of looks as well as talent. The scout even rejects one potential player because she is not as pretty as the league is looking for even though she is a great baseball player. The player, Marla’s father said if she was a boy she would be playing for the Yankee’s. Eventually Mara’s father is able to convince the scout to take Marla to try outs because he raised her on his own after her mother died. Her father says it is his fault his daughter is a tomboy. In this case the film reinforces the traditional stereotype that mothers are in charge of raising their daughters and teaching them to be a lady, where fathers are incapable of raising girls to be anything other than a tomboy. Ice hockey, a sport that has been in existence for over two hundred years, has become a fan favorite across the globe. From Canada to Sweden, you will be able to find some of the best ice hockey players in the world; both male and female. This pastime has instilled a unique tradition throughout the years of its practice by a combination of both physical skill and mental strength. Although it did not provide aid to globalization, it has created a worldwide culture that many people are proud to be a part of. Since its inception until now, there has been a great deal of gender stereotyping concerning the sport. Regardless, ice hockey will continue to be a lucrative market, as well as a cherished hobby for many years to come.
When looking for an argumentative visual I wanted to do something over a topic that was one day going to relate to me. So I chose the topic of young male children playing tackle football. In this PBS Learning Media documentary, a group of doctors persuasively discuss the effects of allowing a male child under the age of fourteen to play tackle football and the head injuries it can cause as well as the later effective of their growth they can encounter if a hard blow to the head was the happen. The documentaries argument clearly stated that allowing your children to play tackle before the age of fourteen is dangerous and should be avoided for the child 's safety. The film also successfully utilized many rhetorical appeals that convinces parents to reconsider their idea of allowing their son to participate in tackle football. The first rhetorical appeal used in the film was pathos, it was a video clip of a child on the ground hurt because of a hard hit to the head. On April 15th 1947, Jack Roosevelt Robinson played his first game for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jackie, went without a hit in a game which would have been noted only in sports almanacs were it not for the color of his skin. At Ebbet's Field that day, Robinson broke baseball's “color barrier.” The integration of Black athletes into White mainstream sports had begun. Robinson endured a variety of slanderous yells, racial epithets and even hurled objects. The fact that African Americans would be discriminated against in sports was never more apparent. Today, that same vitriol manifests itself in various forms of discrimination. Rhetorical forms of discrimination are just as damaging today as outright bigotry was then. Though rhetorical racism is not as overt, it continually influences an audience that is largely unaware of its existence.

This is because the playing fields have revealed the dominant culture’s attitudes and beliefs that people held about race relations throughout history in the United States. Many racial barriers were broken in the world of sports long before they were crossed in the realm of mainstream society as a whole. From Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball during the year of 1947 to Tommie Smith and John Carlos raising their fists clad in black gloves during the 1968 Mexico City Summer Olympics, sports have started conversations about race in the United States that have undeniably changed the course of race relations in the United States.
The Fallacy of Minority Discrimination in Sports When someone flips through the channels on a TV and they happen to pause on a sports game, they will most likely see a small number of white athletes. The next thing that they might see is a commercial trying to tell them that minorities in sports are being discriminated against. This is not the case. There is no racial discrimination against minorities in sports. There is a much higher percentage of minorities than White Americans in more than just one professional sport.
The growing debate about the mascots, logos, and team names used in sports has been an issue since the 1960’s-1970’s. The argument that is at hand is depicting if these symbols are a representation of pride or if they can be classified as racist. There are many supporters to both sides of this debate. Many on one side are arguing that the symbols are clearly racist while others on the opposing side are making claims that the symbols are an honor to whom they are portraying and are negatively connected to racism. There also the individuals who do not identify with either side, obtaining the belief that these symbols are a representation of the organization itself rather that creating a backstory or an image associated to anything other than the organization represented by an image. With many debates and issues regarding the topic happening annually, the question remains, what should be done about the racism issue in the sports industries?
Dealing with the issue of sport and ethnology, three major factors come to mind; prejudice, racism, and discrimination. These factors span across gender, ethnic, racial, religious, and cultural groups. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss how these factors have played a part in the evolution of sport in our society. The first issue tackled in this paper will be racism in sports, followed by prejudice and discrimination.
Stereotype, when used as a transitive verb, by definition means “to believe unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same.” In other cases, when it is used as a noun, it is defined as “an often untrue belief that many people have about all people or things with a particular characteristic. Our society defines stereotype as a type of prejudgment one assumes about a person wherein they categorized him/her into a group where other people possess a certain characteristic or trait that he/she shares as well. The ad employs tactics that reel society into believing that women must put a man on a pedestal in order to gain his admiration. Based on my working thesis, there are a few unstated assumptions that can be made. One of these unstated assumptions is my belief that sports are very beneficial for children. This can be assumed due to me still saying children should still play these sports, even with all the studies that have recently come out about potential injuries. Another unstated assumption in my working thesis is that these high impact sports do have many negative effects. That is why I claimed they should only be played because of better equipment and more rule changes changing the game. Racism in Sports Racism occurs every day and everywhere. We cannot get away from it. In sports, racism is happening more often and becoming a much bigger problem. Most agree that sports are a reflection of society. What this means is that sports often act as a small-scale version of society and thus, racial problems in sports have been, and continue to be, brushed away as nothing unique.
Sports are rooted in tradition and many fans develop their beliefs based off their own biases and preconceived notions. Examples of bias exist in each sport: Bud Selig has called the Oakland A’s success “an aberration”, walks were an irrelevant statistic in baseball for over 100 years because of one statistician’s opinion, and an ESPN author once ran an article titled “Wisconsin: The Most Boring Team in America.” Throughout the history of sports, coaches and managers have been trying to find inefficiencies and rethink the way their game is played. When resources run low or tradition doesn’t exist, those in charge need to have a willingness to reconsider their sport: how it is managed, how it is played, who is best suited to play it, and why.
