Physical wellness is the process of making choices to maintain a flexible, energetic and strong body. Career wellness is present when a person has the gratification of knowing the work they do is meaningful, utilizes their intellectualism and personal strengths, contains self-respect in their roles and take pride in their employer of choice. Emotional wellness exists when a person accepts their own worth, not monetarily but in what they value and what they give to others. A person who is at peace with who they are, how they recognize, communicate and express themselves to others as well as how they feel about themselves, physically, spiritually, and emotionally will encompass emotional wellness. Environmental wellness is present when we make choices that contribute to sustaining and improving the quality of life in our immediate surroundings as well as the universe as a whole. The last dimension is intellectual wellness. This exists when a person can use their own mind to create a greater understanding and appreciation of the universe and all the people who exist in it. All seven dimensions overlap and are intersected with the other. They all play a significant role in improving a person’s quality of life. While it may be easier to put more effort and emphasis into one single dimension, in order to achieve complete health it is vital to attain balance in all seven dimensions. The second step to sustainable health is educating oneself on the importance of how food plays a vital role in a person’s overall health. The average person knows it is better to eat an apple than it is a cupcake. Unfortunately, the average person may not realize that depending on the apple, it may be just as unhealthy as eating a cupcake. Food is an essential part of everyday life without it one could not survive. Every day we make choices on what we put in to our bodies. There are countless varieties of food to choose from to meet the diverse tastes of the increasing population. Almost all food requires a label explaining the ingredients and the nutritional value allowing consumers to make informed decisions on what they are consuming. However, many may not be considering where that food is coming from or how it has been produced. Unfortunately, there is more to food than meets the eye. Since 1992, “ the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ruled, based on woefully limited data, that genetically modified foods were ‘substantially equivalent’ to their non-GM counterparts” (Why to Support Labeling). GM food advocates have promised to create more nutritious food that will be able to grow in harsh climate conditions and eventually put an end to world hunger in anticipation of the growing population. There is very little evidence to support these claims and study after study has proven just the opposite. GM crops are not only unsafe to consume, but their growing practices are harmful to the environment, and multinational corporations are putting farmers out of business.
Myers & Sweeney (2008) states, the wheel of wellness is a model that is gear towards the individual’s well-being in which body, mind, and spirit are linked as one so that the client and professional can live life to the fullest within social and natural norms. In addition, resilience for professionals is to know how to cope and come out of a stressful situation without any kind of remorse. Furthermore, prevention is to prevent disastrous of one’s life. For example, an individual needs to re-evaluate his or her life on a daily basis. According to Venart & Pitcher 2007 [Myers & Sweeney (2005] states, Wellness is an aftermath and a system, a primary aspiration for existing, and a way of life.
Food, everybody has to eat food. In this century there are millions of different foods that can be eaten. But sometimes while Americans indulge in the luxury options of foods, I wonder if they ever really pay attention to how bad many foods are for their bodies. I think everybody should turn to organic foods to help them live healthier lives. The reason that foods are so bad for the body to consume is because foods are packed with GMO’s. GMO’s are “genetically modified organisms” which are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses, or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature, naturally (“GMO Facts,”2014).
How many of you hear the words “genetically modified food” and immediately think “BAD”? How many of you scorn the idea that genetically modified foods are useful? How many of you have been manipulated by the media to think that all biotechnology is evil? Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are organisms that have been genetically spliced to achieve a certain trait. As the demand for a larger food supply is increasing due to population growth, the benefits that GMO foods provide are being hailed as the only solution to the food crisis. However, many people are making inadequately informed decisions, and are pushing them to the back shelf. I will inform you on why genetically modified organisms may be the only way to a stable, safe future for the less fortunate.
Genetically modified food’s, or GMOs, goal is to feed the world's malnourished and undernourished population. Exploring the positive side to GMOs paints a wondrous picture for our planet’s future, although careful steps must be taken to ensure that destruction of our ecosystems do not occur. When GMOs were first introduced into the consumer market they claimed that they would help eliminate the world’s food crisis by providing plants that produced more and were resistant to elemental impacts like droughts and bacterial contaminants, however, production isn’t the only cause for the world’s food crisis. Which is a cause for concern because the population on the earth is growing and our land and ways of agriculture will not be enough to feed everyone sufficiently. No simple solutions can be found or applied when there are so many lives involved. Those who are hungry and those who are over fed, alike, have to consider the consequences of Genetically Modified Organisms. Food should not be treated like a commodity it is a human necessity on the most basic of levels. When egos, hidden agendas, and personal gains are folded into people's food sources no one wins. As in many things of life, there is no true right way or wrong way to handle either of the arguments and so many factors are involved that a ‘simple’ solution is simply not an option.

Wellness is imperative to a healthy life. Sometimes, people do not really consider what makes up wellness, they simply think of it as being “well”. Wellness may be a state of being “well”, however, it incorporates different areas such as nutrition, health, safety, nurturing, and emotional stability. People must be healthy in all of these areas in order to achieve wellness. This is not an easy task for an adult, but definitely not for children.
The second dimension of wellness is emotional wellness, which has a lot to do with you ability to recognize your own thoughts and feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. There are a lot of ways to do this, such as: understanding and sharing your thoughts and feelings with yourself and those around you, and being confident in your self and the decisions you make. Some well known people who I believe have attained emotional wellness include Ellen DeGeneres and Doctor Phil.

The importance of this issue is that these GMO’s can actually have a negative effect in our society in general. It could mutate in a negative way and cause cancer or other diseases. Genetically modified food should be strictly controlled due to its various detrimental effects on the environment, human health, and potentially insect/animal effects.
Physical fitness is usually applied to the framework most typically associated with two classifications: Basic fitness (a condition associated with health as well as well-being) and specialized fitness (the capability to carry out specific sports activities or work-related skills). Physical fitness is actually a condition associated with health with lower risk of early illnesses and the vitality to participate in a wide range of physical pursuits.
Knowing what each of these dimensions of wellness requires can feel overwhelming. However, one should not be discouraged because of what they lack, but look forward to the improvement we are capable of bringing to our own lives. Becoming more spiritual will always be beneficial. Anytime one can improve their relationship with God one can improve their life astronomically. Emotional wellness is possible even for those who have been through horrible experiences. Practicing emotional wellness can bring healing. Physical and nutritional wellness will lead to a longer, pleasanter life and social wellness will make that life worth living. Sharing a well life with family, friends, and God will make time on this earth an irreplaceable experience.
According to the text, wellness is defined as an "integrated and dynamic level of functioning oriented toward maximizing potential, dependent on self-responsibility. " It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. Wellness is a lifelong promise to oneself of growth and achievement in each of the seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, occupational, intellectual, environmental, and social. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels of healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions, both individually and collectively.
What is wellness and why is it important in my life? Wellness can be broadly described as the culmination of actively making multiple choices that will lead oneself to a happier and healthier life. Wellness is not merely being in shape or having an IQ of 130. Rather, wellness is an active process through which we can better many aspects of ourselves. In general, most people wish to be the best version of themselves that they can be, leading to the crucial knowledge that wellness is an important topic for everyone.
Throughout our healthy brains, healthy bodies course so far, we have learned time and time again about the strong and important relationship between our brains and our bodies. Health and wellness is not one single thing, it is a collection of practices, attitudes and ways of being in the world, which help us cultivate the best form of ourselves. Finding and understanding the ways in which we can best take care of ourselves, and then applying them, gives us the opportunity to improve our physical, cognitive, mental and emotional wellbeing. Embodying our healthiest selves helps not only us, it helps those around us by providing a positive example about how to exist within our own bodies, and exist within the world.
