Exercise is known as the movement of muscles and bones in the body that increase heart rate and uses a specific amount of energy in a given period. There are many forms of exercise, some examples include, running, biking, a variety of sports and weight training. However, certain people may only choose to do one form of exercise, other may do multiple. Every individual’s perspective on exercise is different. Some may choose to not get enough exercise required for a healthy balance in day to day schedules. It is important to maintain a certain level of physical activity each week in order to live a well-rounded lifestyle. However, depending on what age you are, it could vary on how much physical activity one should be achieving on a daily or weekly level. Exercising once a day until you break a sweat or till your heart rate is up, should be the goal a person should strive for the minimum amount required. Puterman, Weiss, Beauchamp, Mogle and Almedia (2017) stated, that for a person to reach the level of activity that is considered exercise is minimum ten minutes a day, or until the person breaks a sweat. The daily minutes of exercise should roughly add up to about 150 minutes of physical activity a week. By completing the minimum amount of exercise in the week, the study showed that it increased the level of positive affects in individuals. However, not fulfilling the requirement meant that those individuals decreased in positive emotions (p. 3-6). The article provides strong support for the claim that daily exercise is needed because by measuring the emotions individuals experienced during the study, it showed if exercise positively or negatively influence the human body. Puterman et al. (2017) study was conducted with a group of 2,022 participants, randomly selected (p. 2). This provided a persuasive and stronger support because of the large population of participants that were included. Many believe that exercise has to be as long as an hour a day. In reality, for it to influence the body in a positive way, only taking ten to twenty minutes of the day to exercise can prevent risks and produce lifestyle
Pate et al. (1995) stated that physical activity is needed for health promotion and disease prevention. They also stated that every adult should do at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise everyday if possible. Moderate intensity exercising includes activities such as brisk walking and cycling as stated by the Department of Health (2011). They also state that regular physical activity will improve a person’s mental health as it will increase self esteem and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Physical wellbeing is also enhanced by an increase in physical activity. The World Health Organisation (WHO) (2002) found that in developed countries 20% of heart disease and 10% of strokes are due to physical inactivity. Furthermore a lack of physical activity is found to cause 3% of all diseases.
Exercise can have many effects on the body. A lack of exercise can create several significant health problems, while an abundancy of exercise can ultimately lead to a healthy body. Exercise comes in many different forms that you can choose from. You can walk for about an hour and lose a portion of calories or you can run a couple miles and lose even more calories. If you watch television, you have likely saw one of those exercise commercials with exercise equipment like treadmills, elliptical trainers, and stationary bicycles that you can use. Or instead of using those methods, you can be active in fun ways like playing a sport such as basketball or baseball as well as dancing which all count as exercise.
