“Everyone confesses that exertion, which brings out all the powers of the body and mind, is the best thing for us; but most people do all they can to get rid of it, and as a general rule nobody does much more than circumstances drive them to do.” Harriet Beecher Stowe refers to how you evolve as a person when exerting yourself; but how us as people don’t push ourselves to that limit of hard work unless we have too. Utilization helps you engage yourself by going with two or more groups. When in reality, doing both is much hard than what meets the eye. Usually the American way of “multitasking” works, but this is with small things that do not change who you are. When people include themselves in multiple activities at one time, this is exertion. “You can’t hang with the hares, and hunt with the hounds” is a commonly used proverb, yet many do not know what it means. Many times we hear something and then say it without actually knowing the true definition of the word or phrase. This commonly used phrase is said to indirectly let you know, that it is too hard to do two things at once. Like multitasking, “You can’t hang with the hares, and hunt with the hounds.” is stating that too much involvement is not necessarily the best thing for us. A lot of times we push ourselves to do too many things at once. Putting in tons of effort all of the time can really put a strain on a person, and tear them apart as a whole. Too much involvement is not a good thing, but nor is it a bad thing
As human beings, it is becoming more of a second nature to us to multi-task. As the world is technologically advancing more and more every day, there are becoming more distractions. Social-media is flourishing, reality TV show ratings are going up, and humans even unintentionally check their phones every two minutes. In this day of age, multi-tasking is proving to promote inefficiency rather than productivity.
While reading through the article, I noticed that the loss of focus she spoke of was happening in my life. I agree that we as a society are trying to become more productive, but multitasking is not the way to go. Tugend mentions that the human brain cannot efficiently handle doing multiple things at once (716). I see this in my daily life when trying to carry two or more items while trying to talk on the phone, it usually ends in disaster. However, multitasking is productive in some ways such as listening to classical music while studying. Tugend does a great job at getting personal with the reader; she uses situations that everyone has been through. Today we live in a society where everything is seconds away from us. With the advances and affordability of quality technology, you would be hard pressed to find someone without a smartphone, laptop, or tablet, possibly all at the same time. Because of the accessibility we find that, in our tech-savvy culture, multitasking has not just become an art form of sorts, but rather an expectation. In the article “Multitasking Can Make You Lose…Um…Focus,” Alina Tugend sets out to explore the idea that although multitasking appears to show productivity, it could be doing the opposite. Throughout her article, Tugend uses studies done by neurologists and psychologists to show how in a world that sees multitasking as an expectation it has actually made us less efficient. She proposes, through studies, that although you might be working on multiple tasks it is as if you’re playing tennis with multiple balls (Tugend, 725).
Muscle endurance is the ability to perform a lot of repetitions against a given resistance for a long period of time. The combination of strength and endurance results in muscle endurance. Muscle endurance is used in may sports such as rowing, swimming, cycling, distance running, field hockey and American football. Normally, an endurance muscle program involves lifting about 12-25 repetitions of moderate loads. In some cases, this is inadequate for many sports such as boxing, canoeing and x-cross skiing.
Multitasking requires that a worker divides his/her time and energy on multiple tasks at the same time. As a result, the care and attention to detail is divided. The amount of focus that could be used to review one assignment is split. In an experiment, Patterson (2017) discovered that students who studied while participating in media multitasking took longer to complete tasks in their classes. This experiment addresses media multitasking in the case of students. While it is not a type of multitasking we normally consider, it does involve performing multiple tasks at one. Instead of putting all of their focus on their assignments, these students’ attention is on the assignment and on their social media. The results of the experiment prove that it when placed in scenarios where people are required to focus on multiple things, it takes more time to complete certain tasks. In this instance, media multitasking caused a decrease in performance. In another experiment, Paridon and Kaufmann (2010) made an observation when studying multitasking in the workplace, stating that people’s reaction time diminished when multiple tasks were completed at once. The believe that multitasking affects people’s performance has also been proven to be true in the workplace, as the speed of people’s production when down when required to complete multiple tasks. Performance can be determined by the speed in which a task is completed.
The strenuous life was an idea and lifestyle that came about during Victorian America. This was an overall concept of how society should live their lives based around the idea of therapeutic ethos (The Strenuous Life: Race, Sports, and Gender at the Turn of the 20 Century). This philosophy stated people should live their life through the idea of self-fulfillment rather than the Victorian idea of self-control. Self-fulfillment was a lifestyle that would help save yourself, save your health, and allow you to prove yourself as a man through your daily actions and behavior. With this self-fulfillment way of thinking the gender roles for men, football, and the wild west became key factors in the emergence of the strenuous life in Victorian America.

Multitasking is a poor strategy to to use why trying to complete a job. Multitasking has negative benefits in all aspects of life and is a habit that needs to be broken.
Multitasking is the ability to be able to have your attention on multiple things at one time. Everyone multitasks whether it is at work, home, or school. Everyone multitasks one way or another, but they have multiple times that someone can fall under. When multitasking you need to know the limits and when it is not effective. If I was only able to do one thing at a time I would never be able to get anything done throughout my day. Throughout my life I figured out how to multitask and it has turned me into a mid-core and hardcore multitasker. At school, I am a mid-core multitasker, but then when I am at work I am a hardcore multitasker. A mid-core multitasker is someone who engages in both social and academic multitasking, but does rule his or her life. A hardcore multitasker is someone who engages in both social and academic multitasking, but the activities are spread out over numerous areas.
Living a long and healthy life requires more than just good luck. People all over the world go to the gyms and like to exercise for different reasons. Some think that maintaining their fitness will just aim at their physical image, but being physically active will help control their overall health by improving the body's function and preventing sickness. Being physically active is the key to being physically and mentally fit, and helps people become a more balanced, physically fit person. They will not only stay healthier, but will be happier, live longer, and also sleep better. This will help boost a person's mental outlook, and also increase their self esteem. Physical fitness is one of the most important steps to a healthy body.
