SETTING
It takes place in a nation called Panem established in North America. Most of the book takes place in district 13. The nation of Panem is split into 13 districts. District 13 is completely underground and hidden from other civilizations. It takes place in the future of our society. Some of the book also takes place in the Capital city when Katniss and her team travel there. The Capital is home the wealthiest people in Panem and it is extremely exclusive.
PLOT
There is a girl named Katniss and she is a sign of the rebellion against the government because she went against them. Every year they have something called “The Hunger Games” which is where one person from each District in Panem is chosen to fight to the death as a form of entertainment. The Capitol which is the government in Panem is in control of this and uses it as a method to keep their power. Katniss Everden is a girl from District 12 who survived the games with a boy from the same district, Petta. They survived by being willing to both die instead of having one victor. The Capitol did not like this because it was a sign of rebellion which may cause the districts to rebel. So, in order to get rid of them they attempt to kill them by putting them in another Hunger Games which does not work because Katniss is taken to be kept safe when there is a disturbance in the game. The government is after Katniss, because people see her as the “Mockingjay” which is a sign of the rebellion.
Petta on the other hand is not saved and is taken by President Snow(who is the leader of the Capitol). Katniss is taken to District 13 where she is safe and with her family. She cannot return to district 12 because The Capitol has destroyed it. Her family has also taken re...

...live without Prim because she loved her so much. When Prim died Katniss died inside because of her love for her sister. The main love shown in this book was shown between Katniss and Peeta. When Peeta was taken by Snow, it was all Katniss could think about. Even when Peeta tried to kill her she still loved him and cared for him, not giving up on him. In the end their love is shown through their simple life and how they help each other get through the difficulties they face.
PERSONAL RELEVANCE
I personally thought that the theme of the book was strong and very moving. It was very emotional for me to even read the book because it felt so real. I think that the author did a great job and that it had a strong storyline and plot and ended very well. It was so good that I wish it had not ended.

I did not like the ending of the story. I found that the ending was very predictable and anticlimactic, especially when all the tension was being built up throughout the rest of the book. When I was nearing the end of the book I was already starting to envision the ending of the book and when I got to the end I was disappointed to see that I was correct. I would have preferred if the ending was more of a cliff-hanger and ended completely different than anyone would have expected.
Vogler states that “ The hero comes back to the ordinary world, but the adventure would be meaningless unless he/she brought back the elixir, treasure, or some lesson from the special world (Vogler).” They bring back hope to their district and the rest of Panem. The elixir that Katniss returns with is the knowledge and drive to change Panem. Katniss and Peeta winning the hunger games started a revolution in Panem. They return with the knowledge of the hunger games which they plan to teach to future competitors from district 12. Peeta, Katniss, and Haymitch are all mentors for District 12. Their rebellious actions in the games may seem small, but they started a whole new rebellion on a much larger
Suzanne Collins has, through her writings, used great imagery to expose the meaningful side of ‘The Hunger Games’, the side that is not all about what takes place in the arena. The Capitol’s rule over the districts, the reality-show part of the Hunger Games and the Mockingjay pin are all fragments of deeper meanings that create the basis of all that the story is. Suzanne Collins has depicted the country of Panem as a place overruled by a large city, known as the Capitol. The Hunger Games is apparently a means to keep peace and a fair punishment for the rebellion of the districts, where district 13 was obliterated in the mess. However, Collins has spun this interpretation around and unveiled a different perspective – that The Hunger Games is
When her and her ally and love interest Peeta reach the center of the Arena in which they are fighting for their lives, they not only run into their biggest rival – another boy named Cato who had been set up throughout as a villain – but also the murderous creations of the those who put them there. It is a gruesome fight that results in Cato’s horrifying death, and the survival of Peeta and Katniss, but only one of them can live. This ultimatum drives Katniss to take a calculated risk: if both of them die, the Capitol has no winner, and the games must always provide a glimmer of hope for effective control, thus if they threaten suicide, they can both get out alive. It works, and they are delivered from the belly of the
Katniss's mother who stopped caring for Prim and Katniss after the death of her husband in a coal mine explosion. This led to Katniss becoming the family's main provider. Katniss's little sister who is kind and gentle. Katniss volunteers in her place when she is picked to fight in the Hunger Games. Katniss's friend and hunting partner. He is the person closest to Katniss, and only with him can Katniss fully relax and be herself. Boy tribute district 12, he is kind and loyal. He becomes Katniss's main ally and love interest. Protagonist and female ribute of District 12. She is tremendously resourceful and a great hunter. Peeta's and Katniss's trainer. At the end, Susan brings Ada and Jamie back to the countryside to find out her house had been hit by a mom due to the war. Also, their mom left the children after Ada expressed her feelings, and they never said where she went or if she ever came back. Therefore, i wish they could have been a little more of an explanation as to what they go on to do, or a follow up book on how they deal with the war. On the other hand, I think that the book showed lots of great things to display a good meaning overall.
Why is the hunger games book series banned in some school districts? So the books, even be banned. The hunger games series is about two teen Defeat the strong capital rules, by falling in love with each other and deciding not to kill each other forcing the game makers of the capitol to change the rules of the game and let cattness and Petta live, (main charters). But Now in catching fire the story changes a bit. The teens need to battle again. With the capitol ,people and love. There are a lot of the graphic parts in the story, but I believe that any 9th grader should be able to handle it.
At the beginning of this scene, it shows that Katniss received a small metal water bottle in the film, however, the water bottle she received in the book was plastic and half of a gallon. This is meaning that all of the contributors gave a lot more in the book rather the film. Also that she had more fans on her side rooting for her in the book and she didn’t do something right in the film. In the film, Katniss finds out that Peeta is with a group of other tributes after they killed a girl from district eight. Showing in the film that Peeta is actually with the other tributes and getting along with them in the movie shows that he is trying to get everyone he can on his team during the games. However, in the book, Katniss finds out that Peeta volunteers to go back and kill the girl from district eight by himself. This is making Peeta sound more sentimental and more caring rather than the film. At the end of the first day in the book it says that only eleven tributes had been killed. But it showed in the film that thirteen tributes had been killed. Having more people die is showing that they are taking this more serious and they are way more ruthless in the film and not the book. While Katniss took a nap in a tree she was awoken by animals running away from a fire that the capitol started. On the other hand, in the film she is awoken by only the fire and there were not any animals
Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, is portrayed as a teenage girl with a rough upbringing in which she is often forced to assume dominance in her family. She lives in District 12, where the citizens are forced to work in coal mines, live in prison-like conditions, and must scrounge to survive. At the age of 11, Katniss’s father dies. This is a pivotal moment in her life, as she is forced to take care of her family. Every day, she cares for her sick mother and young si...
In a not-too-distant, some 74 years, into the future the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 13 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; these children are referred to as tributes (Collins, 2008). The Games are meant to be viewed as entertainment, but every citizen knows their purpose, as brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts. The televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eradicate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. The main character throughout the series is a 16-year-old girl from District 12 named Katniss Everdeen.
In the novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins a new country is created. Panem is born in place of North America, were the Hunger Games began. In the Hunger Games, there are 24 tributes. Tributes are people who live in the districts. The tributes in the Hunger Games are all the same. They kill one another and become the Capitols puppets. The tributes become violent, emotionless puppets. Then there is Katniss. Katniss is an excellent hunter and becomes lethal during the games. However, she has not lost her compassion. Katniss does not think of herself as a good person. When in reality she is a good person with a large heart, who puts others before herself.
Since she is the female victor from district 12, she is in the 74th Hunger Games. She sees how painful and scary it is and so she tries to stop the capital which is who is controlling everything. She doesn’t want that to happen to anyone else. She rebels against President Snow in plan of eventually killing him to take over the capital and change the world. Teens can relate to this because a lot of the time we feel controlled. It might be by a parent, teacher, grandparent or someone else but all of us are controlled by someone. A lot of teenagers end up rebelling because they feel as if they have no choices. They go against the rules of who they are rebelling against. That persons rules and values are not necessarily right. Who decides what is right? It seems as if we have entered into a state time where there is no right and wrong. Katniss breaks free of that control and does her own thing. Another way teens can relate to the hunger games is through the love triangle. Some of us might have a similar situation of where we might like two people. In the movie it says, “What I need is not Gales fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can
...completely different lives. The over powerful Capitol is to blame for this cruel injustice. For the most part the people of Panem seem to have come to accept this fact and just do what they can to get by. Peeta and Katniss are different. They prove that people from district 12 aren’t worthless but have the ability to win the games. They show that their gender does not determine or constrain what they have the ability to do. Through out the book, Peeta and Katniss teach people a lesson by continuing to challenge the status quo of Panem.
The main character, Katniss, volunteers as tribute for her district to save her sister from having to be tribute. Upon arriving in the Capitol for the games, she sees just how vast the gap between the Capitol and districts are. To fight against this class struggle, she begins to revolt. At first this comes in the form of small things, like shooting an arrow at a pig feast of Capitol higher-ups and refusing to kill her friend in the games, resulting in the first ever co-victors of the Hunger Games. Katniss’ actions soon lead to full blown rebellion in the districts, starting a revolutionary war between them and the Capitol. At one point Katniss remarks: “My ongoing struggle against the Capitol, which has so often felt like a solitary journey, has not been undertaken alone. I have had thousands upon thousands of people from the districts at my side.” (Catching Fire 90). In true Marxist fashion the working class needed to use a violent revolution to confront the class struggle against the ruling
The book The Hunger Games by Susan Collins is written in the point of view of Katniss, the female tribute from district 12. We can read all her thoughts and it makes the book more personal because we are able to see what makes her so unique through understanding all her thoughts and thought process. In the book we can see that she uses her critical thinking to interpret all her situations...
