Have you ever wondered what it would be like in the middle of a war? If so, The War that Saved My Life is a historical fiction book that takes you on the journey of nine year old Ada Smith and her younger brother, Jamie. In my opinion, The War that Saved My Life, is one of the best books I have read and it shows that despite the obstacles in life, there is always a positive outcome. Ada was born with clubfoot, is in the middle of World War II, has a mom that is ashamed of her foot. However, Ada does not let these things get in the way, and solves these problems into a new life. In the beginning of the book, it starts off in London where Ada and Jamie lived with their mom, but there were buses taking kids to the countryside of England because of the war. At the end, Susan brings Ada and Jamie back to the countryside to find out her house had been hit by a mom due to the war. Also, their mom left the children after Ada expressed her feelings, and they never said where she went or if she ever came back. Therefore, i wish they could have been a little more of an explanation as to what they go on to do, or a follow up book on how they deal with the war. On the other hand, I think that the book showed lots of great things to display a good meaning overall. I gave The War that Saved my Life a rating of 5 out of 5, because it was one of my favorites to read, despite the ending. I do believe that the ending could have been a little longer and will answer many questions readers still have. However, I still do recommend this book to readers who enjoy suspense and the wonders of war.
