Argument of Cause Although many schools are currently undergoing repetitive failure and reforms, Beaufort County Early College needs not change a thing. If arming students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful post-high school is a measure of success, the Beaufort County Early College High School (BCECHS) is the epitome of success. BCECHS is one that prepares students for college and career, has teachers that care about their students while enriching them, and that encourage their students while enabling them to grow. There are four main practices that show how Beaufort County Early is a great success regarding student achievement and preparedness for the future. First, BCECHS designs each student’s educational plan with the end (a career) in mind. At one point in time, schools were strictly vocational or career-oriented, but BCECHS has a new spin on an old tried but true educational philosophy and has a handle on how public school education should be delivered. Although there are uniform subjects required for the acquisition of a high school diploma (English, science, math, social studies) the remainder of your courses provide you with an opportunity to explore and pursue your career. From criminal justice to cosmetology to accounting to college transfer this program provides students with the skills and degrees necessary to get started in life. This school abandons the one-size-fits all or most approach for a “new” model. The school offers varied modes of technology and instructional delivery and provides vast, new opportunities to meet the majority of students’ needs. Although many points made by Chris Mercogliano are valid of the traditional school setting, the early college model (and my high school experience) may be the traditional experience of the future. Subsequently what is done is that selected high schools develop a curriculum that is organized around a specific career cluster, which are like a specialized charter school. The goal is to feature a series advanced “pathway” courses that can help students to enrich their knowledge through work-based learning and academics. In turn, this specialized education will allow student to demonstrate their understanding through assessments and industry credentialing opportunities. As well these schools are enrolled in a learning exchange that have partnerships that are organized to support the programs of study by coordinating statewide networks of education partners, businesses, industry associations, labor, and other organizations (2013, p. 21-23). Consequently, the program is driven to help high school students develop a career path and to receive exploratory education that will given them an advantage in either college endeavors or in the job market.
As the economy evolves and the job market continues to get more competitive, it’s becoming harder to have a successful career without some kind of college degree. This creates a belief in many young students that college actually is a commodity, something they must have in order to have a good life. There’s many different factors that influence this mindset, high schools must push the importance of the student’s willingness and drive to further their education. College isn’t just a gateway to jobs, but it is an opportunity to increase knowledge and stretch and challenge the student which in return makes them a more rounded adult and provides them with skills they might lack prior to
One major decision one must make after exiting high school is whether to go to a university or go to community college. In the article “Two Year Are Better Than Four,” written by Liz Addison. She expressed her opinion on the significance of community colleges in comparison with the university. She stated that community college do not receive the acknowledgment and appreciation that they deserve. “what’s the matter with colleges?,” (Addison 255). although, there is a lot to agree with within the article there are some faulty statements that two year colleges don’t offer the best education possible and that community college are more engaging and individualized for a student and the price is also much less expensive than a university education.
“When schools, parents, families, and communities work together to support learning, students tend to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher level programs.” (Van Roeckel, 2008, p. 1) Deer Valley High School in Glendale, AZ is the first high school built in the Deer Valley Unified Scholl District, and with a population around 1800 students, the high school is one of the bigger schools in the state. It has a tradition of family on its’ campus, where there are still teachers teaching that were there when the school opened in 1980. A number of former students have become new teachers on campus and just about all the teachers’ children have attended and graduated from the campus. With a school like ours, there are many connections to the community around it and it is demonstrated by the programs that bring in parent and community to help with the development of our students. There are numerous booster clubs run on our campus to help support student achievement on the sports fields, a school to work programs to teach the students necessary skills in different areas of either nursing, sports medicine classes, and in the culinary arts classrooms, and funding to our school to help ensure all students graduate on time. There are many programs on our campus, but I will discuss four of the programs: baseball booster club, C2G program, “school-to-work”, and the special education program sponsored by Arrowhead Hospital. These programs are designed to improve the relationships between the campus and the people in the community, and give all students on campus every opportunity to succeed in their future.

In Caroline Bird’s “College is A Waste of Time and Money”, it’s argued that there are many college students who would be better off if they were to begin working after high school graduation. Colleges and universities can no longer ensure that one will go on to get a better job, getting paid more than they would have without a higher education. However, high school seniors still stress about where they will be attending college, how they’re going to pay for it and what they’re going to study for the next four years. Bird points out how college has changed over the past few decades and how, in turn, it has set many young adults up for disappointment, if nothing else.
The curriculum of the CSCP increases student’s awareness, skill development and understanding of the skills needed to be successful in life. For a high school student, the curriculum would include problem solving skills, goal settings for transitioning after high school and testing. The prestige Rancho Solano Preparatory School (RSPS) was established in 2008 but was known as an excellent private school located in Arizona. Majority of parents already be planning and wanting their children to attend great schools to receive the best education. So instead of children going to public school where education is not so great, their parents make a way for them to get excellent education. Every child is not that lucky to receive top rank education and have to make best with the education that they do get. Apply what they learn at the public school and move on to junior college and might not gain a career. That good education will eventually lead to further education, than off to a great career. Homestead High School continually perpetuates this unfortunate circumstance, despite the school’s stellar four-year continuation of basic education and preparation for college.
