In pre-reading activates I use recall, I occasionally clarify the text for myself and I rarely analyze the visual elements. When reading actively I only highlight what is most important to me and make notes on what I am confused about. I always identify the major and key points in the text. I always pay attention to the overall progression.
English 101 is one of the most common college courses in the world. When I enrolled in the class, I was bothered that I would have spend forty hours in a freshman writing class; along with at least another forty hours throughout the semester writing for the class. What surprised me, was that when I began writing my essays I was not annoyed or bothered; I actually enjoyed the assignments. Most importantly, throughout the course of the semester, I have become a better writer and have ultimately met the course goals of English 101.

For most college students that are just starting out in the basic classes, such as Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s English 101, problems can arise due to classes being much harder than the prior high school classes the students are used to. One could refer to procrastination as a stress factor; since most college students are constantly stressed they often turn to procrastination when faced with a large number of tasks. With jobs, volunteer activities, relationships to sustain, and families to entertain, students barely have time to complete their endless assignments, and time waits for no man. The WIC program has an average of 9.17 million participants every month. Yet, there are many women who are not receiving benefits from this great resource center, and there are many women that are taking advantage and are receiving the benefits when they actually do not need it. I planned an informative trip to one of the many WIC agencies her in Los Angeles, CA. I visited the Van Nuys, CA location multiple times to get a chance to talk to recipients and even employees to get a better view of the program.
It is because of the aforementioned statements that I believe the application of my time management skills in college will allow me to successfully contribute not only to the academic environment of East Carolina University but the overall social climate of the campus as well. However, one trait that is arguably more important to academic success than time management is perseverance. Perseverance and curiosity were key to my academic success in high school and I plan to carry these traits that I have attained, along with many others, to East Carolina University as I continue my academic career. Both of the aforementioned traits allowed for me to flourish in the classroom as I would challenge myself to fully understand and comprehend difficult problems. When faced with a problem that truly challenged me, I would break down the question step by step and work on it until I could say that I understood what to do on a fundamental level. Learning that having good time management skills has shown me that I can take my time and accomplish more. When relating this to school, I can honestly say that starting early is the best gift that I can give myself. As a full-time student with a family and a full-time job, my time is a limited resource (Britton & Tesser, 1991 pg.405). When I start early on an assignment, I don't have to rush and if I mess up, I can start over or seek help if necessary. My work schedule doesn’t always agree with my school schedule but for the most part, I try to have all of my school work completed by Thursday. As I'm approaching the last week in this class, I have began to look over the discussion posts first and then I look over the complete section to familiarize myself with the material before I even go to the read section (Chambers, 2015 pg.4). I found that to be especially helpful when I first began this class because the things that I already knew or felt like I knew, I went ahead and did it.
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the “Subjects and Strategies” textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past semester, I have encountered many difficulties when trying to write these essays, but through the use of the textbooks, the aide of the instructor, and once I was able to classify the different types of essays and styles, I found them possible to overcome.
Putting as much time as I possibly can into my work will allow me to achieve the objective of the assignment. Managing my time efficiently will allow me to put as much time as I need into my academics as well as personal time. Anytime during the semester I can adjust the amount of time I need to study or time I need to do assignment. I found out about this exandinary program through my first period, which is Business and Law. The explanation of your program was very detailed and very informing. I would like to start this essay with a brief summary about me and my life. My full name is Jordan Tyrese Bediako I was born on November 5th 2001 to the parents of Mertina and Nicholas Bediako. I have one older sibling named Nicholas, who was apart of the disney dreamers academy; something I hope to do in the foreseeable future. Although I was born in North Carolina, do to be a military child I spent time in Germany, Virgina and eventually came back to North Carolina. As of right now i’m an all A’s student, however I always been a top notch student because I’m determined and I adapt to situations very fast.
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
First things first to succeed in college: never get behind. Being behind messes up your whole routine and just overall is stressful. Not only does it bring stress upon you, but also to the teacher. Consequently, you should always have a hard work ethic and present each assignment on time. Waiting until the last minute to do assignments, also, isn’t a bright idea. Most of the time if you are rushing, you aren’t thinking correctly and it completely messes up your train of thought. An example of where this can occur, are with essays. At the end of the school year, I was really disappointed with myself because I failed to prioritize my education. It was the first time I struggled with my grades in my short lifetime. However, what transpired during the school year left a tremendous effect on me. I knew that millions of other high schoolers experience the same battle of balancing their academics with their extracurricular activities, yet I still couldn’t find time for academics. The process of learning how much effort and focus I needed to put into my education was the most significant challenge in my academic experience.
