In life, people come across challenging obstacles’ when trying to achieve their goals. College, like that of life, has a variety of challenges that appear in a student’s pathway to their goals. For most college students that are just starting out in the basic classes, such as Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s English 101, problems can arise due to classes being much harder than the prior high school classes the students are used to. Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s class is hard because it has an online portion, it creates stress, and it is a required class. In her English 101 class not only do students come for the lecture hour on Monday and Wednesday, but every Friday there’s an online portion that they must complete. Some of them have a lack of interest in their required classes. When the student does not find a topic interesting in the required class it may become difficult for them which makes the class harder for them. This will lead to lower grades making it hard for the student to catch up as the semester goes on. In order to graduate they need to have a passing grade in these required classes or else they will have to retake the class. In high school students are usually required to take the ACT or Compass test and meet a certain score. When a student struggles to meet these standards it can affect their ability to take required college courses in the time period they had planned for. Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s Fall 2016 Syllabus states that “Students enrolled in ENG 101 should have a score of 18 or better on the ACT, or a score of 70 or better on the Compass test, or a grade of “C” or higher in ENC 091” (Pg. 2). Students who just barely make the grade or meet the score to be in this class may find it a struggle. Many students who barely make it are unaware of the course, ENC 091, before English 101and end up missing this beneficial opportunity. This goes to show that the required course includes many requirements. New students are usually unaware of these requirements which cause them to experience problems. Students who have border line test scores and are unaware of the ENC 091 course enroll in English 101 and may become uninterested leading to the need to retake the

Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.
