Throughout ‘the blind side’ some of Michael’s strengths are he is very caring when it came to his new family. He had the gift to forget his terrible childhood of being taken away from his mother numerous times because of alcohol and drug abuse. Self defence wend SJ and himself were in the car crash and he put his arm across to stop the air bag from seriously hurting SJ because he was too young to sit in the front seat.
Some of Michael’s weaknesses are he is very shy and you could see that when he first went to his new school he just sat there not asking any questions, the only thing he said was can I leave now. He didn’t want to hurt anyone until he was in his first Gridiron game and one player on the opposite team said something rude to him

Nervous on his first day of school and you can tell because every time he is nervous in the film he rubs his legs and his face looks very unsettled.
Michael’s appearance at the start of the movie was very daggy, wearing old clothes with only one extra pair. Then at the end of the film he was dressed in nice clean dressy clothes with plenty of other clothes to wear.
Michael’s temperament is that he is very focused in most things he does. He closes his eyes in the grid iron game and remembers what Leigh-anne told him, to protect his family which in this case was his team.
Michael’s evolution was major in the movie. At the start of the movie he had nothing and he was going down the road of an early death. His new family changed him into a boy that had a future of grid iron and a better personality.
Michael has various different relationships with everyone throughout the movie. He has good and bad relationships with his teachers. He had a rough up brining with his mother being an alcohol and drug abuser and he never knew his father. He gets along really well his new family. His friends in Herb Village were all a bad influence on Michael. It’s good that he got away from there when he did, because he would of gone down the same path as they did, dyeing at an early age because of
Michael was loyal and dedicated when he shocked Clyde, the guy that was trying to rob his mother. in that scene he was showing loyalty to his mother by Shocking Clyde, his mom became safe from hid gun.
MIchael tries to prove it along the way with the help of his best friend Manny and his brother Carlos, trying many different ways to get it done. Carlos started working extra to try getting a plane to cuba for the birth certificate, but he realized it was no use.
Mike was also a paranoid person. For example, he gave the wrong address and phone number to the school so if something happened they could not contact him.
In the movie, Mikey had a lot of individuals, such as peers and family members surrounding him on a daily basis that influenced his life in several ways. Mickey would get to play and socialize with other children when Mollie took him to the playground to play in the sandbox. That was the time when Mikey could be understood by the other babies when he used his inner voice. One day at the playground, Mikey was told by some of the other babies what daddies were, and then Mikey started realize that he wanted to have a dad too. Mikey soon realized that James would be a good father for him, and wants Mollie to make James his dad. Mikey gets to hear from his playmates what is going on in their households, and he realizes that he is missing one part of a family that his friends enjoy a lot, which are their fathers. If Mikey’s friends did not have fathers, then Mikey would not have even thought about a dad until later in life. Peers have a big impact on children when growing up. Kids love to compare different aspects in life and want to be equal. The inner most level of the environment is the Microsystems. Children physical attributes, personalities, and capacities affect adults’ behaviors, but adults affect children’s behaviors as well (Berk, 2013). Therefore James and Mollie were both involved in influencing Mikey’s life equally as an infant. Mollie wanted Mikey to be in a successful environment with the executive, Albert, so that Mikey could be influenced by him, but Mikey had been exposed to James more, even though he was not the biological father. Mikey developed similar characteristics from James since that was the male figure that he was around the most. Mikey enjoyed playing with cars and pretending to drive because he was used to seeing James drive the taxi majority of the
his life in a major way. Mike’s biology teacher encouraged him to the best at everything and to
The Blind Side is a heartwarming and compelling story of the NFL player Michael Oher, who is adopted into a family that is a significantly higher social class than he. The story is a true account of a boy that went from rags to riches and depicts eloquently the social stratification in the United States.
Herbert Blumer noted that people act toward others based on the meaning they give them. The meaning we assign to someone is shown by the language we use toward that person. Words we use have default assumptions, and people label others with words. Thought then comes into play as we modify our interpretation of what we see by our thought process. The thought process includes someone taking the role of the other. You imagine you are someone else who is viewing you, and sometimes act as that person would act. A lot of the people in the movie, The Blind Side, act differently toward Michael Oher based on the meaning they assign to him, and they give him different labels. Those labels are mostly negative because people see Michael him with ratty clothes, nowhere to live, and always failing school. Michael Oher’s mom in the movie, Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock), and her family represent love and caring. Michael starts showing love and caring. When he goes back to the “hood” with his old friends, they represent problems, and he doesn’t want to be problematic, so he stays away from
The movie Blind Side begins with the author, Michel Lewis explaining the incident of Joe Thiemann in which he broke his leg into two parts. He then explains the importance of a left tackle in the game of football. After a brief description author introduce Michael Oher; tall, beefy, quiet and athletic guy who is being interviewed by what it seems like a government officer. Michel who was abandoned at very young age and didn’t knew much about his father nor his mother, although he wanted to stay with his mother who was an alcoholic and struggles to find an orphan house or a good family that can take care of Michel. Despite not having much a family nor someone who takes care of him, Michel never gave up on the situation and lived most of his
Michael soon realizes that he wishes he would have simply turned himself in. Afterwards, it seemed like such a logical choice, but he knew that if he did he would be breaking the loyalty to Joe.
In the opening scene we get a sense of what Michael is like. He is driving a boat of a car across the barren desert, like he is scavenging for something. Strapped for money he stops at a somewhat abandoned gas station where he finds a bundle of twenty dollar bills out in plain view. We get the sense that he tries to be honest because he doesn’t take the money and he buys gas with the last five dollars that were in his wallet, just enough to get him to Red Rock and not any further. He then gets turned down from his job because he told the truth about his leg being injured. When he goes into the Red Rock Bar we can see the change in his life coming. He walks in from the bright daylight into the darkness of the dimly lit bar. This lighting hints to the audience that from that point on Michael is fated for disaster.
For millions of impoverished African American youths across the nation, the journey from the projects to success is few and far between. Rather than focusing on education and personal development, young children are introduced to violence and “the struggle” from a young age. However, for a few lucky stars such as Michael Oher, athletics provide an avenue to reach stardom. “The Blind Side” is a 2009 film following the true life story of Oher, his rise from a tough upbringing in Memphis project housing to his eventual fate as a first round draft pick to the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. Growing up in a broken family, Michael was separated from his crack-addicted mother at the age of 7 and never knew his father. After bouncing to multiple foster homes, Michael finally is given an opportunity when he is living with his friend Ryan. At the head football coaches urging of the school’s administration, he is given the opportunity to attend Wingate Christian school - despite his poor academic record - due in part to his extreme size and athleticism. Michael’s fortunes increase further when the Tuohy family, who aids Michael’s forthcoming success immensely, takes him in. In utter contrast to his upbringing, the Tuohy’s are a multi-millionaire, Keeping Up With The Jonses, white family. The family takes Oher in as one of their own, buying him
This is where he fell in love with the game of football and he knows that to play in the pro league, he had to improve his education. He received educational support and it was critical since he did not develop education prior to living the the Tuohy’s. Moreover, when having a conversation with Leigh Anne Tuohy, his adopted mother, about his football decision, she replies: “It’s your life, Michael, it’s your life” (Hancock, Netter, Smith,..., 2010). Michael comes to the understanding that his identity as a Tuohy, a black male, and a football player, does not have to come with any pressures or expectations (Kim, 2017). He realizes that he is able to decide for himself who he wants to be, and chooses to attend University of Mississippi and accept his football scholarship . This is essential on his development because his choice to focus on athletics, improve his GPA, and choosing a school to attend and play football allows Michael to develop a sense of identity and
Michael loves exploring and learning about new things. For example, on page 7 chapter 3 he thought “I didn’t have to dare myself to stand in there listening to the scratching.” Just before that in chapter 2 on page 4 Michael’s mom said “‘ Didn’t we tell you to wait till we made sure it was safe?’”. All of this proves that Michael was so curious he disobeyed his Mother’s orders and, still went into the garage. Also, when Michael was at the hospital for his baby sister he couldn’t help himself and he went to see the doctor that treats Arthritis to help Skellig. He asked the doctor “‘ What’s good for Arthritis.” This show’s he was so curious about Arthritis that he left his sick baby sister to ask this doctor this one question. Another example is the second time he goes to see Skellig on page 30 chapter 10 he asks”’...Where you from?’” Then on page 31 he asks “‘ Who are you?’”. He said this after Skellig kept saying no and nothing. This shows that Michael was to curious that he kept persisting in trying to know anything about Skellig. When Michael was being curious he was mostly being very
In order for this plan to be successfully executed, each inmate has to be willing to sacrifice the fact that if they get caught, the consequences can be lethal. First off in the pilot episode, Michael needs to get familiar with how the prison time works and where access is allowed. From this, he creates friends with John Abruzzi. Abruzzi is inmate who works with the Prison Industry. The P.I. allows prisoners to work and gives them a little more freedom to make a living. This is perfect for Michael to have the freedom to work out his plan and gain more access to vital buildings for his escape route. This puts Abruzzi in a bad spot, since he is the one allowing Michael to work. In an episode called Flight, John Abruzzi calls for an extraction from his Mafia buddies. During the escape, the private jet is flown in and is waiting an airstrip. The tension is caused when one of the officials came to confront the person the private jet about being on the property. The official secretly calls in the station about this unidentified aircraft. Michael causes all these tensions that comes with the escape plan. The reason why Abruzzi is helping Michael is because Michael delivered photos to Abruzzi’s Mafia buddies of a guy who did something bad to Abruzzi in the past. This tells the audience that Michael did his homework prior to coming to this
His skin got lighter and his nose became slightly thinner than it looked back in the Thriller era. This was when the media slowly started to spread rumors that he bought the bones of elephant man, which he didn’t deny because he knew the media would believe anything people would say about him and that he started to sleep inside of what people would call a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. It was from then on the media started to say that he started to sleep in these chambers so that he could retain his young looks which turned out to be false. Only after this era would things get worse for Michael.
