In the novel Skellig by David Almond, there is a young ten year old named, Michael. Michael has just moved into his new house and his sister is also very sick. While exploring his new garage he finds a man named Skellig lying there looking dead. Michael is very helpful to the man and gives him the things he needs to survive. Later, he meets his new neighbor, Mina, who he later introduces to Skellig. After that, she takes quite the liking to Skellig, and is very helpful to him, too. She gives him a better place to live, and nurses him back to health with Michael. Throughout the novel, three of Michael’s traits shine through: his various talents, his curiosity, and, finally, his caring nature. One of Michael’s traits is he is extremely talented. From soccer to writing to art he is full of amazing talents. One of his best …show more content…
talents is he is great at soccer or football for him in England. For example, on page 128 in chapter 33 Michael said “I scored four goals, made three more, my team won by miles.” He is also great at writing as mentioned earlier. His teacher Miss Clarts even stated on page 129 in chapter 33 “ You have a true gift. Look after it.” He even said there was tears in her eyes when she read through his story. Not only was Michael great at all of these other things he was also good at art. He had pretty much just started drawing one night on page 132 in chapter 34, he was waiting at Mina’s house for his dad to come back. The first picture that the drew was of his friend Coot and Mina was able to recognize it right away. He said “I saw how what appeared on the page looked more and more like what I saw or thought of in my head.” he also said on page 135 in chapter 35. Basically, anything he does Michael is amazing at. One of Michael’s other traits is he is very curious.
Michael loves exploring and learning about new things. For example, on page 7 chapter 3 he thought “I didn’t have to dare myself to stand in there listening to the scratching.” Just before that in chapter 2 on page 4 Michael’s mom said “‘ Didn’t we tell you to wait till we made sure it was safe?’”. All of this proves that Michael was so curious he disobeyed his Mother’s orders and, still went into the garage. Also, when Michael was at the hospital for his baby sister he couldn’t help himself and he went to see the doctor that treats Arthritis to help Skellig. He asked the doctor “‘ What’s good for Arthritis.” This show’s he was so curious about Arthritis that he left his sick baby sister to ask this doctor this one question. Another example is the second time he goes to see Skellig on page 30 chapter 10 he asks”’...Where you from?’” Then on page 31 he asks “‘ Who are you?’”. He said this after Skellig kept saying no and nothing. This shows that Michael was to curious that he kept persisting in trying to know anything about Skellig. When Michael was being curious he was mostly being very
caring. The last trait about Michael is his caring nature. Michael is very caring towards Skellig, Mina, And his baby sister, Joy. For example on page 27 in chapter 10 Michael is sneaking out of his house to give garage dude the things he wants. Michael also did the same thing on page 53 in chapter 16 and he keeps bringing him food and other things to help him survive. Just the fact that Michael kept bringing food for Skellig shows that he cares about him but, Michael also has offered to bring doctors to see him and other things. Another example of this is on page 11 in chapter 4 when Michael goes into his parents room and goes to feel the Joy’s heartbeat and the “‘...rattle of her breath…’” Michael loved and cared for Joy so much that he couldn’t contain himself and just had to check up on her. One other example of Michael’s caring nature is on page 150 in chapter 39 michael faints and says his heart stopped beating. When he wakes up he touches his heart and he says “‘...It’s only mine not the baby’s’”. Earlier in the book Michael touches the baby’s heart when she is in the hospital and her heartbeat stuck with until now and he thinks the baby is dead. Right after, this comment he squeezes his eyes shut to hold back the tears and clenches his fists. This show that Michael is in pain and is extremely sad which shows he cares. Michael fits all of these qualities perfectly. Michael is talented in soccer to writing to art. Michael is curious, he loves exploring undiscovered places and loves learning about new things. Michael is caring, he cares for Mina, Skellig, his friends, and his family very dearly. Michael leaves the reader wishing the could have his traits instead of theirs. He also leaves the readers wondering how they would or even if they could handle a situation like his.
Michael was loyal and dedicated when he shocked Clyde, the guy that was trying to rob his mother. in that scene he was showing loyalty to his mother by Shocking Clyde, his mom became safe from hid gun.
Michael had shot off the rifle that killed Jenna’s father. Michael had accidentally shot it into the sky to show his best friend, Joe, how it works. Michael then heard about Jenna’s father’s death and knew instantly that it was his fault. He “remembered the story about the girl who choked on a stone” (page 32) and knew that he was also choking on his guilt. Michael keeps denying that he killed Mr. Ward but he knows in the end that it was him. Michael has also lied to the police about where the gun is and how his best friend Joe borrowed it. Michael should be honest and tell the police what has actually happened and maybe he will not get into so much trouble. Michael has also cheated on his girlfriend with Amy Ruggerio. That has affected him throughout the story because his ex girlfriend was spreading rumors about him. In conclusion, Michael has done deeds that affect him in the whole
Mike was also a paranoid person. For example, he gave the wrong address and phone number to the school so if something happened they could not contact him.
Soon after the story begins we get an insight into who Michael truly is. One could easily describe him as a Meek young man, as the narrator states Michael is very unsure of himself while asking the townspeople questions on the subject of the whereabouts of the Hangman. Though, his insecurities do not stop him from his ability to do his job. To be a decent writer you have to be observant, which fits Michaels personality perfectly. While describing the Hangman's appearance he notices small details that most people would skim over. Describing him as “a little fellow, without
asked him a few questions, then pulled out the firearm and pointed it towards Michael and
Phyllis then calls out Michael for making fun of them every day. His insults consist of fat shaming his employees and mocking them on their appearances. He is abusing his role and as a manager, he is using irresponsible dialog to communicate with his employees. By humiliating his employees he is satisfying his own self-worth and ego. Michael shows lack of empathy towards his employees and he is unwilling to recognize or even take into consideration what their thoughts and feelings are. When he starts his “training” he makes his main focus on himself and his feelings, even though the main focus was geared towards everyone. Michael Scott stated in the Kai pod episode “ you cannot make fun of a person for something or action they have no control over” he then continues on by saying it is only acceptable to make fun of something they have control over. He calls out Oscar and tells everyone it's okay to make fun of him because he chose to be gay; on the other hand, it was not okay for Michael’s employees to make fun of him because he did not choose to fall in the Koi pond. He is concerned more about what others see in him rather than helping the situation. He is using his authority and displaying his authority as manager to persuade the others to think it’s okay if someone else gets made fun of but not
Michael changed drastically over the course of only a few weeks. He learned more about his friends, family, and himself than he ever wanted to know.
Michael does have communication issues. However, he is working on communication better with his peers. Michael loves to work with his hands, love to work with cars, and really wants to live in a house by himself after high school.
On the surface, Jonas is like any other eleven-year-old boy living in his community. He seems more intelligent and perceptive than many of his peers, and he thinks more seriously than they do about life, worrying about his own future as well as his friend Asher’s. He enjoys learning and experiencing new things: he chooses to volunteer at a variety of different centers rather than focusing on one, because he enjoys the freedom of choice that volunteer hours provide. He also enjoys learning about and connecting with other people, and he craves more warmth and human contact than his society permits or encourages. The things that really set him apart from his peers—his unusual eyes, his ability to see things change in a way that he cannot explain—trouble him, but he does not let them bother him too much, since the community’s emphasis on politeness makes it easy for Jonas to conceal or ignore these little differences. Like any child in the community, Jonas is uncomfortable with the attention he receives when he is singled out as the new Receiver, preferring to blend in with his friends.
.... He uses his work as a form of therapy and puts his heart and soul into anything he touches. The pain from being unaccepted by his peers and family is put into his work. His nightmares from the past come out on paper. Without the judgment and pain thrown at him, he could have never been as great as he is today. Every aspect of his work has been affected by his life, whether it be relationships, being pushed down, or feeling alone. He has rose from the ashes of his past, taken all of the pain and turned it into something truly beautiful.
However, what attributed to Michael Jackson’s success was not because he got lucky, it is simply because he practiced hours and hours at his craft and essentially where he was born and raised. Michael wasn’t just blessed with an impressive dance skill set, behind those flashy dance moves was hard work and dedication. At the early age of 5, Michael Jackson studied and was inspired by the late great icon James Brown. Jackson studied the musicians legendary singing, dancing, and even his mannerisms while he was performing on stage. While Michael was studying the late singer, he had a hunch that he wanted to achieve major stardom in the same fashion as James Brown. In Malcolm Gladwell’s book, The Outliers, he addressed the 10,000 hour rule. He indicated that it takes roughly ten thousand hours of practice to achieve full mastery in a field. It’s easy to assume that Michael simply just had a natural ability to sing and dance, but we tend to overlook the endless amount of hours this man has put forth to become so successful. The most compelling evidence that contributed to his success was his ability to have room for error and think of new ideas. Michael was constantly searching and constructing new dance moves/routines to perform to his audience. In addition, he always eager to

Michael never really had any true friends in Casterbridge and this may explain why he vigorously befriended Donald Farfrae when he arrived. Some may think that one of the disasters that Michael made was how he confided in Farfrae, even though he was a stranger. However, I do not think that we can fault him for sharing his innermost secrets, as he had had to cope with so many problems alone, for so long. Does
