What do you feel are the advantages and the disadvantages of being a Resident Assistant? An advantage for me being an RA is to get to engage with students in my hall and around campus in a capacity that I wish to as a counselor. I will get to encourage students to be their best academically and otherwise and help enable them to do so. I 'll also get to be a leader and develop skills in encouraging community and relationships, organize and oversee activities for those relationships and growth, model that independence and cooperatively, and learn to better handle conflict in a possible high stress situation. All of this is very useful for my desired future profession and are things I have a passion for. I can imagine a disadvantage of being an RA is being on call whenever my residents would need me, including in the middle if the night. I can see how that would challenge me and would require and help me develop patience and empathy for other people and whatever they 're dealing with. What qualities does an effective leader possess? How does this apply to you? I think an effective leader is passionate and empathetic and able to understand the people they leading. Also, a leader is someone with the skills to handle …show more content…
This kind of community, students in a college in the same vicinity with so many people of our own age, is an amazing once in a life time opportunity for students to build relationships and make friends and connections that enhance their life and college experience. I have skills needed to do this, want to improve and further those skills as well as gain new ones that I think this position can help me with, and want to work with other staff - as a fellow leader - who also have a passion for other people and
The reason why I want to become an Orientation Leader is because I see this as something that I am naturally attracted to. By becoming an orientation, I will possess the opportunity to make a batch of new friends. In the process, some of the relationships that I establish can transform into a lifelong bond. I feel like as an orientation leader, I will become a member of the unique community of orientation staff and create a bond that I can carry with me throughout my time here at Winthrop.
Pros and Cons are I would have to bathe the patients which would be little gross to me but i would have to do it. I would also have to help change the patients to and i would have to change their beds and there diapers if you don't know how to go to the bathroom on themselves. I would get to spend time with old people which would be amazing because I love old people. The sad thing is i would have to make sure i don't get to emotional when they pass away which would be super hard and super sad. I am interested in this because my aunt does stuff like this and i want to do it
My experience working with fellow Somewhere students, organizational skills, and work ethic would benefit students visiting the ICY, and would allow me to grow professionally. My position as a Resident Advisor in Dasher Hall provides me with outstanding training. As we discussed in today’s interview, selection is a very personal issue for most students. As an RA, I am often praised for my ability to work with residents on issues that require sensitivity. I am fortunate to balance my strong people skills with strong organizational skills.
As a result, there are some pros and cons of being a radiation oncology supervisor. When I asked Anna Rosploch R.T.T. (Email communication, November 2016) about the pros and cons of her job she said, “The biggest con is that I’m pulled in so many directions sometimes that it can make me a terrible partner to work with treating, or simming. There is commonly someone who needs something or a response right away and I frequently get interrupted when im with patients. learning to manage that time and all my duties is probably the biggest challenge”. She also went on to say that even though constantly being asked question and having to make decisions she likes having a say in how the department is run, and she also likes being able to make changes if there are problems with the staff or patients. She also said she a pro over being a staff radiation therapist is having a more flexible schedule. Since she doesn’t have to “punch in and out” she can leave in the middle of the day for family events, and she can take work home with
Working with different people is one of things I am excited about being a RA. As I met different people with different cultures, beliefs and worked together in the past, I am certain I know how to interact with them. These experiences taught me how to interact people different from me flexibly, how to withstand pressure and how to use differences as strength. Moreover I have taken several leadership positions before so benefits from those positions would be useful in becoming a RA. A resident assistant should always be caring and protective of his residents. He has to guide them so that they could live in a happy but safe environment. That is what I did when I went to Japan. As I was given the role of leader, I tried to live up to it. So I know the responsibilities of being a leader and how to make decisions for the sake of the team. I think these past experiences would prepare me for this position.
I am interested in a residence life position not for what it shall bring me, but for what I can possibly do to help others. I have seen the Resident Assistants in my hall, Grier, helping the residents and I would love to be able to make a difference in someone’s life as I see them doing everyday. Specifically, I have seen how Kayla Beadles has been able to help others as well as myself by creating a warm environment that has made it extremely easier to assimilate into college life. I hope that by being a Resident Assistant, I can inspire those in my hall the same way that I have been.
Becoming a Medical Assistant believe it or not is an awesome career. Being able to be on the inside and handling emergency hands on is what I will be experiencing. Medical Assistants overall have many job duties and I might add if you are a busy person and you have the urge to help others, then this job is for you. Overall, the objective is to point out the duties, various opportunities and what you will be able to accomplish in the role as a Medical Assistant.
Kate, was my RA and really helped to make the transition a positive experience rather than a negative one. Which really made me feel like part of the community around campus and in the dorm, honestly she is what made me apply to become a RA myself. If I could help anyone else create a positive experience for someone else in a daunting situation, that would really give me a lot of joy. Moreover, I was part of Student Leadership for a year at my last college and it has given me a lot of experience with helping to navigate students along with helping them in anyway I can as a
They know when the RA puts in the effort in a program or not. “He was pretty cool and chill, but he didn’t do a lot of activities for us.” Maria, a former resident in Middle Earth, states as she reflects when she lived in the dorms her first year and thinks about her own Resident Advisor, Ed. “For example, during Mother’s day he gave us just pens and told us to make a bouquet out of it. I always had class and couldn’t make most of them anyway. I still liked him.” That is a predicament that many Resident Advisors face, making a program where their residents go, and estimating how many will go or
The word “job” comes across as hard work, and chores, but the thing that is often overlooked is the deeper meaning that comes with it. Many people may look at the residential advisor position and believe they are only there to get the residents in trouble when they break rules. After my observations, interviews and overall reflection on their subculture, I came to the realization that being a residential advisor is much more than writing residents up for alcohol or noise complaints. It is about the relationships built and the idea that you’re helping others the way you were, or weren’t, during your freshman year in the dorms. The RAs may be there for the free room and board as well as the pay, but they are initially there to make the best they can out of the resident’s dorm experience.
For instance, if Ashley’s parents had not blamed her or had supported her after the assault, the outcome of the short film could have been one of an extremely different and happier story. In addition, this film pertains to being a resident assistant because if your resident enters this dark period or much before this period were to occur, it is important to approach the residents discussing his or her feelings, notifying your coordinator, and describing to them the different resources on campus. Alternatively, the film demonstrates not only as a RA but also as a human being do not judge others based off a single story, but also take the whole individual in consideration, as he or she may be one of the brightest and nicest people you become acquainted with. Lastly, another aspect that makes this film pertain to being an RA is the fact that educating and/or bringing your floor to different events on Penn State with regards in this case to LBGTQA in order for them to develop a new perspective which leads to a greater acceptance and openness. Overall, I believe this film pertains to being an RA because you must support the victim and educate the others before anything were to
I believe all the skills I have learned as an RA will help me with my future career in the automotive industry. I have learned how to make a not so fun situation into something a little more exciting. Some days at work aren't so fun, so knowing ways to brighten the mood of the shop is a good skill to have, in my opinion. My talents vary across the board, I am one to learn new things often and pretty much anything sounds cool to learn to me. Some of my favorites are playing guitar, riding a unicycle, telling awful dad jokes, and I am pretty good at taking pictures. Having many talents makes it easy for me to achieve my daily vision of not going a day without an accomplishment. The days that most people call their lazy days, are my worst days. In order for me to have a successful day, I have to accomplish at least one task. Whether it be an accomplishment at work, school, or just expanding my talents or skills. Having a good spirit and a sense of thrill is what makes my days go on in a positive way. All in all, I believe I have a great future in the automotive
In the time that has passed since I first entered my Residence Hall Community, I have had a number of experiences, internships, and jobs that have prepared me to take leadership and perform the duties of a Resident Assistant.
As freshman in college, I am constantly looking for new ways to challenge my abilities beyond my comfort zone and prepare myself for life after college. I know that becoming an RA is not an easy task, you have take on many responsibilities and make heavy sacrifices involving your own free time to get the job done. However, I am ready to take on any challenges given to me head on and will be willing to ask for help whenever things become difficult. Being an RA, will not only be a stepping stone for my life, but will also be an opportunity for me to be more involved with the growing community here at College Ten. Taking on a new position as RA will give me more insight of the issues happening among the students and faculty in College Ten and allow me to help however I can. I hope that when I become an RA, I can work together with the community at College Ten, so we can have both a fun and beneficial experience as we continue to grow towards a stronger community!
I am interested in becoming an RA because I want to help people and make their college experience one to remember. My sister, Madison McCutcheon, was an RA here for four years and I loved hearing about the impact she made on her residents. I want to be there for the residents and address any issues they may be having or simply to check in and make sure they’re doing alright. College is supposed to be the time of our lives and any lingering problems can cause the experience to become unpleasant. As an RA, I would try to make my residents’ experiences as positive as it can be so that they enjoy this time in their lives.
