Introduction My name is Dyamond Brokenberry, I am an 18 year old female who’s majoring in Biology at Prairie View A&M University, living a good healthy life but I have many unhealthy living habits such as eating junk food on the daily and not exercising like I used to or like I should. I decided to do my healthy lifestyle challenge over running and walking for 15 to 30 minutes each night around the campus for 30 days. On the nights that I didn’t run or walk around the campus, I went to the fitness room provided by University College (where all freshman stay). The advantages of living healthy can be challenged when you don’t have enough time to exercise; you are faced with many options of fast food and when alcoholic beverages come into play. When I talk about being healthy I’m not just talking about exercising and what you intake into your body it goes way beyond that. For instance the type environments you’re living in, you’re state of mental health, your weight, and you’re energy levels. The benefits of living healthy can have a great impact on your life and it can give you longevity. You will not only feel better but you will start to look better and your energy levels will increase. In order to live a healthy lifestyle, you have to adopt healthy related behaviors. Eating healthy is an advantage of a healthy lifestyle. Following your food pyramid and eating the right of amount of servings for your fruit vegetables, whole grains, nuts, diary, and meat will improve your quality of life. You’ll have reduced doctor visits, like the old saying goes “An apple a day, will keep the doctor away.” You can reduce the risk of having a disease, cancer, or diabetes and you’ll see an increase in your energy levels. Maintaining your weight is another advantage. Watching how much you eat and drink and how much physical activity are you getting in a week. A lot of people are not used to change and open to trying new things. The biggest problem most people face are transitioning from bad eating habits to good eating habits. This leads to that person realizing what’s good for them and what’s bad for them to intake. Some have to break a bond of emotional eating, which is even harder because when they’ve become stressed or depressed they usually turn to eating as a relief. This usually makes them feel worse and guilty of overeating. Another disadvantage of living a healthy lifestyle is your social life. This may come into play a lot if you have friends who like to dine out and throw parties with unhealthy food. Knowing that you have accepted to do the healthy challenge some friends may not invite you to certain places because they don’t want to tempt you or they may not want to consider changing their choice of place or friends will think that you’re better than them because you are sticking to your diet. Lastly, time management can play a big deal in living a healthy lifestyle, but the disadvantage of this is that you have to take time plan and prepare meals. If you are following a meal plan you may be required to count the calories or carbs that you eat, which can be easily done by reading labels and measuring amounts. It will become very easy to think that you don’t have time to plan and prepare, but that’s when you set an agenda
