Gaming for Good Video Games are entertaining, interesting, and just plain old fun, but many believe that they are poison to the minds children, teens and even adults. Through studies, scientist and psychologist have determined the exact opposite and that video games actually strengthen your brain and help balance emotions. Since the rise of Electronic gaming, parents have feared video games were damaging the foundation of influence they have tried to build unto their children. Over the time that video games developed, controversy had its rise. Scientist, colleges and physiologist have tested with video games and people that helps put controversy and theories to rest. Video games have not been around forever. It has only been almost half a decade since the first electronic game was invented. The inventor who started it all was an american physist named William Higinbotham. He invented the first game in 1958 and named it tennis for two. It is similar to a game that was later made by a german man name Arer Ralph Baer. It was a game made for the magnavox odyssey, a system made for people to be able to play in their homes. This first put video games into homes, but video games were not popular with the public just yet. Scientist would still have to make games more fun and in larger variety in order for people to start liking them or trying to find a reason to hate them. The seventies was the time of crazy colored fashion, wicked hair styles, and the marvelous arcades. An arcade was a place where many people could go to and play these big machines appropriately named arcade machines. One of the first arcade games to be commercially sold was invented in 1971 by an american engineer named Nolan Bushnell. The average person who plays video games regularly is thirty-three years old (Issitt). This topic is important because video games have been given an unfair stereotype. Video games have the stereotype of taking over the lives of teenagers and making them violent. However, the benefits of video games outweigh the negatives.
There are many people who say that videogames and TV will rot your brain and cause brain damage. Plenty of research and articles are against children playing video games, but there are some that are in favor of video games, and that number is growing every day. Video games can have some medicinal uses from helping patients in physical therapy to improving ones vison. Many people do not see these uses and for every one for video games there are five who are against it, however as that number is slowly growing.

This essay will attempt to prove, that statements made regarding the inappropriateness of video games are untrue. The advantage of playing video games can be proven in their ability to enhance learning, hand-eye coordination, and this in turn can enable children and teenagers to do better in school. Violent video games can help overcome anxiety by providing entertainment without leaving the house, taking everyday stresses out on the characters in the game instead of real life, takes the adolescent’s minds off worries and stress of the outside world, and encourages children to stay out of trouble. Video games. They provide an escape from reality to explore worlds and realms beyond our own. However there is a lot of controversy surrounding wether or not video games are good for you, many people are under the impression that video games turn kids and adults alike into mindless zombies hellbent on violence but in this essay I aim to convince you that not only is this untrue but that video games are actually beneficial. I’d also like to mention that too much of anything is bad for your health, for example extremely high quantities of broccoli can be toxic.

Since the Early 70’s video games have been giving a bad name. Parents state that video games rot the minds of children and are influencing them do be violent. These accusations are far from the truth. In my research I found that there are many positive effects of gaming. Some of these effects are increased skills, creativity, general knowledge, and also help those in need. Parents can also take proper precautions and look into a game before buying it to see if it meets the criteria discussed in this paper.
The first video game console was invented by Ralph H Baer. He invented the brown box which featured seven games such as table tennis, volley ball, hand ball, soccer, golf, checkers and target shooting in 1968. It was later released in 1972 known as the odyssey gaming system. It costed just 100 dollars at that time.
Video games have both good and effects, but bad effects were greater. Limiting the time of playing video games and choosing the right type are the solutions of the elimination of bad effects on children. Thus, moderation between playing video games and playing sports or doing extracellular activities will benefit the child. Another important point would be avoiding violent video games because they influence children’s behavior in an aggressive way.
Nowadays, video games are frequently accused of having detrimental effects on children and adolescents. The main arguments against video games are that they lead to addiction, that they provoke violence, and that they impair social development. Whether or not such claims are true has not been determined with certainty as scientific studies have produced contradictory results. Nevertheless, video games also have beneficial effects, which tend to be underrated, as they do not receive the same level of media coverage that adverse ones do, and are thus unknown to the general public. Some of the positive effects of playing video games on mental development include: stimulating analytical thinking, improving concentration, and encouraging planning and anticipation (“Video game controversies”).
Video games first appeared in the early 1970's. It all started with a simple white ball bouncing back and forth on the screen. In 1986, Nintendo introduced its first line of home video game consoles. With the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) on the market, the home video gaming industry surged and immediately became popular among children. Since then, not only have video games increased in popularity, but there have been vast improvements in graphics, game play, and forms of gaming.
...e dealing with technology everywhere and their whole lives. Video games help make kids feel comfortable with technology. Video games now provide a fun and social form of entertainment and are used all over the world for positive effects. Gaming has had positive effects on aiding weight loss, improving the efficiency of visual skills, controlling anger, creating fun interactive learning environments, and has become a new way of therapy to help rehabilitate patients. The new Wii programs will certainly develop and continue to perform more incredible effects on different people.
Some people believe that video games are officially bad for the person who is playing. Likewise, some people think that video games are pointless and somehow useless. “Video games can rot your brain.”(Anonymous). This was said by someone who is against video games. However, people do not think deeply into what video games have of pros on the person who is playing. They are just blaming video games that contain violence and exaggerate about the bad consequences on the player regardless of the good side of the video games. And these argues are phenomenon in our society. However, Video games do develop teenagers and kids’ minds and give them some skills and also teach teens good values. They do not rot their brains.
In recent years, technology has developed very rapidly. This has led to many arguably both positive and negative changes in our everyday lives. One such change was the increased accessibility of personal computers and gaming consoles as well as the introduction of numerous video games. Due to their entertainment value, these games gained popularity among children and teenagers. Although many concerns have been voiced related to playing video games, especially those that are violent, [e.g., increases in aggressive behavior in children (Anderson & Bushman, 2001)], this paper will argue that certain video games also have beneficial effects. They should thus be played by children, teenagers and adults alike albeit with caution.
The focus of this debate is whether gaming on hand held devices are beneficial to young children.
