Many people use computers, and others use their cell phones. Two common applications that are used for communication are texting and emailing. These are both used to communicate with other people. However, these two apps have their similarities and differences. Each has its own benefit and its own downside. In the end, they are two different inventions used constantly in the social world. E-mailing and texting are similar in many ways. First and foremost, someone is able to connect with other people with these forms of messaging. For example, if one wants to reach a friend from a different state. They could either text or e-mail their friend. Noticeably, these messaging types are quicker than making a call or sending a letter. Sending a letter could take several days before the person receives the letter. That is assuming that there was nothing wrong with the postal system. When one sends an e-mail or a text, people receive it instantly. At any rate, one can also send files via these forms of messaging. An instance of this is when a teenager wants to show his or her grandparents their prom outfit without worrying about ruining it. They would take the one picture, and send it over the phone, or through an e-mail. They were both invented in the late 20th century. Also a noticeable point, both adults and children use these messaging systems. Finally, both of these messaging systems take time for a response. When a friend sends a text, assuming that the receiver is near the phone, they could respond in about a minute or two. When one is sending an e-mail, the response could take from one hour to a few days. These are what make e-mailing and texting similar. However, they have their perceptible differences. Unmistakably, texting ... ... middle of paper ... ... in spurts. When people are sending an e-mail, they are able to e-mail a physical document, essay, or resume over the wire. The downside to sending an e-mail is that one would need to use the internet. Texting is not limited to the internet. So, if you wanted to get an emergency message out, texting would be the best option. In the end, sending an e-mail has its distinctive features. In conclusion, texting and emailing are similar and different in a variety of ways. If one wants to send a letter to an old friend, email would be the best option. However, if one want to reach a friend immediately, texting would be the swiftest option. No matter what people use, they are both equally capable of delivering messages to and fro. Different people have different methods of sending a message. However, overall, these efficient ways of sending messages are used everyday.

Texting however keeps people at arm’s length and prevents relationships from getting past a certain level of rapport. Text messages help people create distance between them and another person. This distance can lead to many things, like lost friendship. Friendships can be lost in text messages because of tone. I was texting my sister one day, who types in all capital letters, and finally halfway through the conversation I asked her why she was yelling at me, because that is how I was reading them, as me being yelled at. When she responded she was very confused, and told me that she didn’t realize that she had been yelling at me and was sorry. This can happen to anybody. People can confuse tone in text messages, and that can lead to one person arguing with someone who has no idea that they are in a fight. Text messages are also used by people to purposely keep others away from them, and by some it is used to hide. Alice G Walton, a science journalist with a Ph.D. in Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience says, “People like to text because the message gives them the ability to hide,” (Walton). It is like the saying “a drunken mind speaks a sober heart,” When people are drunk they hide behind being it, and use alcohol as their mask, but when they are texting, it’s the phone. They are able to say what they would like, without having to actually face the person they are talking to, and

Why was the message that was sent to me in all caps? Is that a way of showing anger? Many get emails or texts or any forms of messages through electronic communication and have no idea what the message is saying or how their tone of voice is. Many have kids who just started using communication or haven’t started at all, and are wondering what to teach their kids about communication. The best solution to this problem is to teach using face to face communication. In the old days, talking face to face was the way to go. They would walk or drive somewhere and meet up just to have a conversation. Now a day we rely on electronics. Even though sending emails is easy, talking face to face helps understand people in a more formal manner. Are these digital connections as meaningful as the old fashioned face-to-face kind?
Texting is a favorite activity among recent generations because it is simple and efficient.
