In order to become a Peer Specialist, I must first depending on the organization I decide to join obtain either an associates or bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Human Services. I am now working towards the bachelor’s degree. I have experience working with people that have issues, and have taken a course given by National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to become a mentor and have taught skills classes to those with mental issues. I am also applying for employment with various organizations. When I am employed and see the results in people’s lives, I will then have reached the fully functioning level.

Substance abuse among health care professionals is an issue that is continually gaining more attention due to the harmful affects it can have individuals as well as the patients. Substance abuse can greatly hinder the ability to provide quality care and if left unchecked could lead to serious implications within the health care facility. There are a significant amount of nurses and health care providers that deal with substance abuse problems. At one point, it was estimated, that 2-3%, of all nurses were addicted to drugs (Trinkoff, & Storr, 1998). To encourage nurses to seek help, the Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses was created. This program gives employers, LVNs and RNs the ability to seek help, education, guidance, and support in dealing with substance abuse and mental health illnesses. In this paper, we will examine the ethical perspectives that these programs foster and the ethical responsibilities of the patient, nurse, and coworkers as determined by the Texas Board of Nursing and the Nurse Practice Acts.
I hope they feel they can come to me when they need help with not just a school problem, but a problem in their personal life or when they just need some to listen. I hope I can model the same teacher characteristics to my students as I felt she showed me. She was caring, warm, and very interested in her students’ total well-being.
My peers can expect a trustworthy co-worker, who will help hold them up when they are down and embrace them when they are up. I will be understanding and considerate when dealing with my peers ensuring not to step into their areas of responsibility without cause. I will give them advice and instruction in areas they are not as strong in and lending help to their sections when the mission dictates a need for it. At-risk youths are adolescents experiencing acute behavioural problems and emotional problems, causing them to be a safety liability to both themselves and others (Janis, 2002). This also impedes their ability to learn and cope in various social settings. Often at-risk youths end up incarcerated in a juvenile facility and are often labelled as a menace to our society. They are prone to suicidal behaviours that sometimes leads to a fatal outcome. According to the CDC, suicide is the third leading cause of death between the ages of 15-24 and sixth leading cause of death between the ages of 5-15. At-risk youths also typically engage in drug use, drop out of school, and practice early un-protected sexual behaviour as well as violent crimes.
One main quality is knowledge, knowing what youre doing and being able to react quickly with the knowledge you have of your job. Another quality is patience. Being patient can be very hard, especially with children. A teacher aide should provide support and patience for each child, and understand that some things could take longer than others for different children. At Saint Pius X, I serve as a teen youth group leader. This experience has been life changing as it has helped develop me into the person I am today. Through my years as a teen leader, I have learned how to cooperate with others, plan events, and be held accountable. As a leader of this group, my job is to lead or youth group nights. Furthermore, we have monthly leadership meeting, where we plan what will come at the next youth group. On the leadership team, I’m one of two leaders who is a senior. Therefore, leading my other team members, that are also on the leadership, to look up to me. One specific leadership event that I participated in was a retreat where I was a middle school group leader. Consequently, the impact this event had on me was monumental.
