The most interesting thing I find in technology and social media when the social media first came into use, many parents were objected to the idea of their kids using them social networking sites as socializing tools. Many parents argued that the social sites and social media in general were ruining the moral values of their kids with some of them arguing that it made their kids lazy. Some of the parents ended up blaming technological developments especially in the communication sector for the immoral activities in the society. However, this is not the case today. At the present moment, many people have embraced the social media and other technological innovations which they believe has a positive impact in people’s lives. Based on the people’s changed attitude towards technology and social media, I find it very interesting to look at the reasons why the society changed its views towards the social media and technology.
The social media and technology have a lot of benefits to the society. One of these benefits is that they provide a platform for people to easily interact and their share their opinions and ideas on several matters affecting the society. Technological developments in the communication gadgets such as smartphones and other portable electrical gadgets such as laptops and iPads have made it easy for people to communicate wherever they are. These gadgets enhance communication since they access the internet which individuals use to access social media such as the social networking sites. Through the social media, people are in a position to interact with each other irrespective of their geographical location, culture or race. Many observers believe that the social media has made the world a “global village” as people ...

... on twitter and Facebook. I decided to change my mother’s attitude by teaching him the importance of social media. For example, I one day showed the message that our teacher had sent us informing us how to the assignment he had given us the previous day. This message changed her mind on social media as she learnt that it could also be used for academic purposes. Today, she is a great fan of twitter and Facebook and even bought me my first smartphone in order to always be in touch with me through Facebook and twitter. This leads to how parents have embraced social media and technological developments being the most interesting issue for me in the field of technology and social media.

“Social media, a web-based and mobile technology, has turned communication into a social dialogue, and dominates the younger generation and their culture. As of 2010, Generation Y now outnumbers Baby Boomers, and 96% of Gen Y has joined a social network” (Qualman 1). Social media now accounts for the number one use of the Internet, and this percentage is rising bigger every day (Qualman). As a consequence, people are becoming more reliant on social media, which has a led to a number of advantageous as well as unfavorable effects. The world is more connected today than it has ever been in the past, and this is all because of growth in technology. What has yet to be determined though
As a teenager associated with the “technological revolution”, it has only been fate to be consumed by the constant social media that surrounds our society. With a phone always in hand, and a new app ready to be downloaded, the people of the current generation are being mind-blocked by the tweets and posts of their numerous friends. As I walk down the hallway of my high school, I see the tops of my classmates heads. Resembling a kangaroo, they are hunched over, arms bent with an iPhone glued to their faces, eager to catch up on whatever tweets they haven’t seen. Eager to see what “selfie” their favorite celebrity has posted on Instagram. The constant mentality of, “ Oh that would be a good tweet”, or “ Lets post theses pictures on Facebook”, defines how teenagers of this generation focus more on how they could build up their identity of being funny, or having a great time, when in reality, it can be all fake. If only all these tweets, or chats were spoken to each other, teenagers will have a tremendous increase in their social skills, which is a major downside of social media. Social media also affects education, as it is a distraction. Even businesses are taking advantage of this social media craze, as they are manipulating the use of advertising through consumers posts. Social Media has changed society, and it will continue to change it. Yet, the impacts are taking a negative effect on teenagers, and future generations to come.
Social media is used by many people, young and old around the world as a way to communicate. Our lives have become so busy that it is difficult to maintain family and social relationships. “They use social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. On these sites users create profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research and share thoughts, photos, music, links and more” (Social Networking). With the use of social media you can be friends with all sorts of people without actually seeing or knowing them. “In many ways, social communities are the virtual equivalent of meeting at the general store or at church socials to exchange news and get updated on friends and families” (Cosmato).
The rapid growth of technology in our society has become more dominant than it was in the 17th and 18th century. Today, technology is used for almost everything in our day to day lives. But the most common usage of technology is for communication and industrialization. However, every good thing has its disadvantage if it is over used, and since technology has become very dominant, it is used by both young and older people but more predominant among the youth of the today. Even more, technology has brought about social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, my space, piazza.com, instagram, tango, and last but not the least texting. According to socialnetworking.procon.org, “47% of American adults used social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in 2011, up from 26% in 2008. [26] on social media sites like these, users may develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, links, and more” (procon.org. 1). Although these sites help many Americans to connect with their family and friends, have we really thought about how these sites are discouraging some students to spend less time with their books, how young adults are losing their marriages, the indecent behavior it is promoting, and how it has escalated texting and driving in our society? Obviously not!
Social media is quickly evolving in front of our eyes and it is almost impossible to reject and hide from this new form of media. Not only is it an important part of socialization within peer groups but now it is used to market and motivate people to become a part of a larger community. It is undeniably changing the way one communicates and how one finds and shares information. Most websites offer communication through the use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and many various blog formats. With new apps on smartphones and photography and video made digital, media can be created, edited and shared quickly and once it is in this new digital cloud it is not yours anymore. Through these new advances in technology one can share things about themselves to the world to view, and prior to social media one would have to communicate and share physically. These social media site offer adolescence new ways to access communication and entertainment and the long-term effects are still unknown. For this reason, it is imperative for parents to be more aware of this new media and what it offers both good and bad for our children.
In the twenty -first century, teenagers live in a life of social networking and life’s online. It’s hard to believe how much the world has changed over the decades, especially in technology. Technology helps people to contact relatives and friends from long distance more easily and conveniently. People can now talk to each other from everywhere in the world simply through chat and video calls. By time, internet connections have spread throughout households and social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram has increased gradually. However, the internet and several modern technologies have wasted many times and has hurt the society. Social media plays such a big role in people’s lives that some people couldn’t even imagine
Social Media means the use of web-based and mobile technologies to make communication an interactive dialogue. It takes on many different forms including social blogs, Internet forums, magazines, micro blogging, photographs or pictures, wikis, videos, podcasts, rating and social bookmarking. With the world in the midst of a social media revolution, it is very obvious that social media like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp etc., are used extensively for the purpose of communication. This form of communication can be done with a person or a group of persons. Today most of the people working in the organizations, especially the young generation are hooked on to the different social media for keeping in contact with their peers. It is media for the social interaction as a superset beyond the social communication. There are both advantages and the disadvantages of using social media. One very important advantage is online sharing of knowledge and distributing information among the different groups of people. And this online sharing of information also promotes the increase in communication skills among the people. There are also disadvantages of
Technology has come a long ways from its existence till today. In today’s modern world, people are surrounded by technology everywhere. In the present, people are surrounded by disrupting technologies every day. Today innovators are always creating new technologies that will make an impact on the daily lives of millions. Technology has made the lives of many people easier. The influence of technology has made an impact on social media. Social media has impacted the society in many ways. Social media is not just about tweeting about what you just accomplished or instagraming what food you are about to eat at a very nice restaurant. The uses of social media is way broader. Now most social media companies are buying out and merging with many other companies that will be off use to them. The people of society has certainly come from a long way. Social media is influencing consumers in what they are going to buy next. Social media is helping businesses to become more aware of their impact they have on they customers. Social media can be used in our days as a very helpful tool for many things in changing any person’s life ant attitude. It has a positive impact on the society level. These media will keep the person socially active and open to all what happened in the world. Sharing the latest news, photos, finding new friends and knowing the culture. Also, it allows for millions to keep in touch with each other and update for all the new technology. And, it helps people who have difficulties in communication with others to be more socialized and stronger and develop more confidence to feel more comfortable, protected and relaxed just sitting behind a screen. “It saved me time and money without ever requiring me to leave the house; it salvaged my social life, allowed me to conduct interviews as a reporter and kept a lifeline open to my far-flung extended family” says Leonard(231).
Even though people have different opinions on whether social media has a positive or negative impact on society, it can be said that social media has a positive effect on society as a whole because it lets people communicate with each other easily, it has been said to improve education among children, and has helped improve the economy in the world. One of the main reasons why social media has positively affected our society is because of how it has made communicating with people much easier. “Today, four out of five active internet users maintain at least one social media profile” (Moe, 3). Using these websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and etc., people talk about everything with anyone from what they are planning to do, to what they are eating and much more (Moe, 24). We can also send private messages to other users of these websites about personal matters that you just want to discuss with them.
Some of the ideas that are central to the idea that social media is a benefit to today’s society are that social media encourages increased communication with friends and family, provides fast access to breaking news and other information, and help business attract new business and correspond more quickly with their existing customers. Increased communication is important in all aspects of life. Keeping in touch with family and friends is easier than ever before. Whether it be a Facebook post or a tweet updating friends about exciting news or being able to see a picture...
Our society depends on knowledge. A new way to communicate this knowledge quickly is through social media (The Power of Social Media 1). Learning through social networking is very useful because the participant can learn the things he wants at the rate he desires (The Power of Social Media 1). Several social media sites have become largely popular, like Facebook and Twitter. With new sites being created year round, it is quite obvious that social networking sites will be prevalent for a while (The Growth of Social Media 1). The main reason social media has become so common is because of its quick access. Anyone can know virtually anything he desires if enough time and effort are put into finding that info (The Power of Social Media 1). Knowledge alone has a very powerful aspect (The Power of Social Media 1). As humans, we long for a sense of knowledge because we are curious beings. People want to know what is going on around them. Not only does knowledge provide a sense of satisfaction, it also expands our options. (Phoenix 1). The more options there are, the more freedom a pers...
