"What is Social Media?" According to the dictionary, social media is any form of electronic communication in which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content. So basically, any type of communication that is transmitted by signals allowing people to give and receive information. This information can be anything from a newspaper article to a quick "I love you!" to a loved one. Social media is a faster way to get to everyone and everything, you can literally get to anything with the press of a few buttons. There are a lot of types of social media although some are used more than others. The most common types of social media are social networks, social news, media sharing, blogs, forums and bookmarking sites. Social media is used for all sorts of things. Some common examples are business marketing, networking, political influences and brand engagement. Businesses use social media to market and show off their products while politically involved people may take another approach like writing articles or starting online polls. Either way, they’re getting the word out there or, that’s the main idea anyway. Social Networking Social media is all about staying together and communicating with each other. After all, without being able to communicate, how could we ever get anything done? This brings us to the most common use of social media, social networking. Social networking has made a very big contribution to society, especially over the last few years. There different kinds of social networks, and so many different websites and smart phone apps, but they can be broken down into 7 categories. Those 7 categories are: personal social connections, multimedia sharing, professional soci... ... middle of paper ... ...oser and certainly more diverse than ever before. Whether it's being able to talk to someone you love whose far away or being able to post your opinion on a forum because you just want someone to know what you have to say, people enjoy social media and it 's really only the beginning. In our day to day lives we socialize and interact with many different types of people, including family, friends, colleagues, or even complete strangers. Before technology people stayed in contact via regular mail, writing letters, telephone calls and face to face communication. Today the way in which we relate to others is completely different. We use social media for finding romance, seeking employment, or getting advice. This is where social networking and social media come into play. Many people may think that the use of social media is making them more social and more interactive with society. But others question if that is really the case. Is social media making us more or less social? Is it changing the way we interact with people on a daily basis? Is it having a more positive or negative impact on society?
Today social media has become a big influence on society. There are many different social media sites that allow people to interact with others. Such social media sites are Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. There are many more different sites, but these are the popular networks that are being used today. These sites allow you to connect with anybody you want to. Social media sites can make you feel connected with others and seem like the best thing, but at the same time it can be a weakness that many of us have.

The definition of social media is websites or applications that are used to communicate with others over the net, either through social networking or any other means. Examples of social media include Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr. The way that each site functions may differ; for example, Facebook is used to keep in touch with friends, whereas YouTube is used to share videos with others. However, any websites or applications that allow the user to interact with other users are still considered social media. Firstly, it is very common for people to believe that social media has had a negative impact on the use of language by teenagers.

People use social media for networking, education, and entertainment. Some of today’s popular social media sites include Facebook, twitter, pinterest, instagram, vine, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Facebook is used as a basic social media site. People can share pictures, videos, and “status updates” to let people know how they are doing or exciting things going on in that person’s life. Twitter can is similar to Facebook, but updates are limited to one hundred – forty characters. YouTube is a site specifically made to share videos, which is its only function. Vine is used to share 6 second video clips, instagram is a picture sharing website, that just recently allowed sixteen second videos to be shared. LinkedIn is used for employers to find prospective employees and vice versa.
