I participated in family team meetings (FTM) a lot when I worked regular investigations. The purpose of the meeting was to bring the family, CPS and any family support in to discuss why CPS was involved and come up with a plan to resolve the case and prevent any further cases. My role was to discuss the concerns that the agency had with regards to the facts found during the investigation that I conducted. When an FTM was held that meant that the agency was at a point where the family and extended family had to get involved in order to support the children and ensure their safety. The role that I always play in the group is the gatekeeper. I always had the most insight as to what was going on because I was the person that had all of the firsthand
The primary roles that were incorporated into group were defined by the leaders of group. Those leaders included the social workers and group psychologists, as well as students when appropriate. The leaders focused on task and maintenance roles, such as; coordinator, elaborator, evaluator, information seeker, initiator/contributor, opinion giver, procedural technician, encourager, gatekeeper, harmonizer, and standard setter. The individual roles was primarily the dominator. Due to the dominator portion of group, it changed the atmosphere and will be discussed later.
Attending an NA meeting during finals was one of my smarter decisions, as I procrastinate my work until the very last minute this week. However, in my opinion, going to a meeting was a good type of procrastination compared to other things I could be doing. Instead of going with the same friend this time, I asked a friend who was struggling with a ________ addiction. Not knowing that I was aware of his addiction, I asked him to join so I didn’t have to go alone; and he was more than happy to join me. I was very happy he agreed to join, because hopefully it helps him with his personal addiction, and he continues to return to the meetings.
This would be an ideal approach to implement; however there seem to be difficult relationships between the two systems as they both hold different values and beliefs. As an intern for DCFS, I have witnessed the “complicated” relationships that the two systems hold. Some police departments don’t believe it is necessary for a dual investigation when it is the job of the children social work to investigate the abuse. During an investigation, the police arrived at the home, however, he refused to do his own investigation as he stated “you guys are already here, I don’t need to be here”. I just need to make sure everything is okay, and the children are safe.”
The importance of family partnership meetings (FPM) or sometimes called family team meetings, is well established. Studies about FPM as an engagement tool in the foster care system indicates that engagement is an important component to achieving permanency for foster children (Crampton, Usher, Wildfire, Webster, & Cuccaro-Alamin, 2011; Boldis, & Tomlinson, 2014). It has been demonstrated that FPM increases biological family members’ participation in permanency planning (Crampton, Usher, Wildfire, Webster, & Cuccaro-Alamin, 2011; Gladstone et al., 2012; Montserrat, López, Bravo, & del Valle, 2013). Permanency is more likely to be long term when biological families are active members of the FPM (Boldis, & Tomlinson,

This is a reflective essay based on my attendance at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting whilst on my two-week placement at a local mental health day hospital. The aim of this essay is to discuss the importance of the multidisciplinary team within the mental health environment and discuss factors that can influence the success or failure of multidisciplinary teams.
The AA meeting I attended took place at a church. The church that holds the meeting has a beginner AA meeting that meets Monday nights at 7 pm. However, I decided to go to the regularly meeting which takes place an hour later at 8 pm. I felt as though I would get more out of the regular meetings and get a sense of what regular AA members talk about. Before arriving at the meeting, I was a little anxious because I felt like as though I would be out of place, and I would be intruding on the members who come to the meetings for support. Also before attending, for some unknown reason, I imagined the meeting would to be similar to AA meeting featured in movies. Contrary to what I thought, the meeting was completely different. When I arrived at
This requires the person to have great problem solving and decision making skills as they are often the one which other members will turn to when they have a problem or there is an issue/conflict in the group. The next role that a group member can assume is the information giver role which is just as it sounds. In this role the person who assumes this role puts forth new or alternative ideas in
These observations and analysis of individual group members work and actions allows for reflection, constructive criticism and what it implies for our group as a whole.

Working in a demanding healthcare environment as an on-going student can be rather challenging & stressful. To achieve success and satisfaction, various strategies are required to be on board. Effective communication is an essential part of constructing good staff-patient and staff-colleague relationships particularly in intricate situations (O’Toole, 2008). In circumstances where imaging-services are performed on patients suffering from multi-traumatic injuries, the requirement to perform under-pressure along with providing the best possible service to our clients and their family can be quite difficult to accomplish. Mental, emotional and physical exhaustion can occur following involvement in a demanding procedure leading to work-related stress (Ehrlich & Coakes, 2013). This essay will present a thorough self-reflection of a similar event I encountered in the clinical-workplace and analysing of my management to the situation. This will be presented by applying the Gibbs-(1988) Model of Reflection (Appendix A) which I believe is the most effective in reflecting my experience, it enables me to identify patterns related to my management of the situation and assists me to make decisions for tackling such circumstances in the future.
As a team, our second team leadership role is that of a Summarizer. We're all good recorders/communicators seeing as how everyone takes notes on team progress, team decisions, and any assignments that need to be completed in the future. We created an agenda for the team and at the end of the group meeting the recorder of our group would then distribute copies of the responsibilities we equally share across the team to each team member.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. During the meetings, we learn many concepts from the textbook, “Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices” by Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson. We were able to learn different types of concept in the textbook and utilized it as a team to complete certain tasks. The three concepts that impacted my team and I are human
While viewing The Conversation I was struck by the quality sound design. As we previously watched Gravity weeks prior it became clear why a movie like that would need many sound engineers to balance all the special effects one would get in an IMAX theatre. However, this feature goes in depth about Harry who is a Bugger, one who records people’s conversations or sounds, such as a private investigator. His job is to record others conversations and not ask questions from his employer. To capture the reality and impact of a story, sound technicians must manipulate the dialogue with any background or source music to flow naturally. As audience members, we do not recognize the complexity and extreme measures sound editors go to in order to capture everyday sounds of background noises and/or to highlight specific aspects of the world the character may be experiencing with more focus. When I think of films with great sound design, I usually think of the action or adventure genres. Although The Conversation is not an action film, it exudes a powerful sound design that is quite impressive. The sound is greater than you could expect, or maybe even notice, on an initial viewing. The storyline allows its main character, played by Gene Hackman, to act as an on-screen sound mixer.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
