Teacher assistants help teachers perform different tasks in the classroom. They aim to work in such a way that allows teachers to focus solely upon teaching the students and setting tasks for them to complete. Classroom assistants provide support for teachers whilst they perform their daily tasks in the classroom.Teaching assistants are fundamental in the creation and implementation of educational programs. One of which is through helping to plan these educational programs. A planned program is a series of lessons on a topic or theme. Lessons in a planned program are sequentially linked or related to one another. Under the direction of a teacher, teacher assistants may work directly with students individually or in small groups to deliver activities that reinforce and advance the educational program. They also provide teachers with advice and suggestions. For example, they may assess how well students are functioning, administer tests (but not make judgments on test results), observe and document behaviours as students participate in learning activities and, where appropriate, help plan the educational program. Together with teachers, educational assistants enrich the educational program by helping students gain the knowledge and skills they need to function in the classroom, the school and the larger community. Having more then one adult who can provide learning support is highly beneficial for students as there is more likelihood that their needs are being met. Not only can they assist with giving instructions, setting up resources, helping students with their movement, handing out supplies and enforcing rules to ensure focus but they can also provide beneficial one on one support to students who have additional educational needs. These needs may be as a result of cultural background, learning disorders, developmental delays and difficulties. These include non-english speaking backgrounds, specific learning difficulties, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder., Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These additional needs can be identified through teaching assistants taking notice of students behavior including what they respond well to, what they do not respond well to, how they communicate with students and staff, their movements and their overall progress over a period of time. The conduct of students can then be documented in a detailed report which the teacher will receive and use to help decide if there are changes that need to be made to the student’s
I being a teaching assistant needs to recognise the child or young adult is at the centre of the learning by treating everyone as an individual learner.
Teaching means more than just giving students information about a subject. Teaching is about building relationships, and finding ways to support students in their pursuit of learning. Support can be both in the classroom (or the setting where the learning takes place), and outside of this realm. I have gained skills pertinent to support and relationship building throughout my experiences as a resident assistant, peer advisor and peer tutor. Being a resident assistant has meant that I have to open my doors and my life, in a vulnerable sense, to support those around me.
High school graduates usually have no career plan. They tend to struggle to find jobs. Some jobs only require a high school diploma, GED or two years in college. Becoming a teacher aide requires no degree, and some college. Teacher aides work with or under a licensed teacher and give additional attention and instructions to students one-on-one or in a small group.

As a teacher it is important if not crucial to create a safe learning environment for students, especially students with disabilities. Most schools implement many services that are available in order to support students with mild-extreme disabilities without excluding them from the other students. The ‘least restrictive environment’ (educational psychology for learning and teaching) is an environment that is close to what students without disabilities learn in. However, depending on the severity of the disability, after school classes or sessions may be required. Depending on the primary school year level, some students may not even be aware that their fellow peer has a disability if the student has not been singled out as being disabled. To engage behavioural or disabled students in learning a good strategy is to accompany the main teacher with a teacher aide. In a class of 25 or so students, one teacher is not able to get around to each student individually. One-on-one interaction with student and teacher is highly beneficial with certain students. So, by having a teacher aide in the classroom the main teacher can work with the students who are able to work more independently
Specialist teachers may come into school to offer advice and support to pupils with a range of needs, behaviour support, social and communication needs such as autism and English as an additional language needs. Teachers serve as the guiding force in a student’s life. They are responsible for molding a student’s personality and shaping his/her mental orientation. Teachers deeply impact our lives and direct the course of our future. One cannot deny the influence of teachers in one’s life. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that, till a certain age, out life revolves around our teachers. They are our constant companions, until we grow old enough to come out of their shadow and move ahead on our own.
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.

A teacher is a person who provides education for pupils (children), or students (adults) using lectures, audiovisual aids, demonstrations, and computers to present academic, social, and motor skills. Teachers can also teach foreign languages, art, kids with special needs, and P.E. Teaching has changed a lot compared to the traditional methods of just lectures and textbooks. Students now are encouraged to actively learn through groups or individual projects. They have learning games, debates, and experiments to help them through the learning process. Being a teacher would be a great career for anyone who wants to further themselves, to help people, and to have great benefits (chronicle guidance publications).
The role and responsibilities of a teacher is very complex. Teachers are responsible for making sure their learners acquire the knowledge they need, but also achieve their qualification by the end of the course in a safe learning environment, so they have the skills and experience they need to start their careers. To achieve that goal a teacher must be creative, professional, flexible and knowledgeable enough to deal with daily challenges and find different ways to help their learners needs. Establishing a safe and stimulating environment for learners, creating mutual respect and set goals that stretch and challenge learners of all backgrounds and abilities.
