High school graduates usually have no career plan. They tend to struggle to find jobs. Some jobs only require a high school diploma, GED or two years in college. Becoming a teacher aide requires no degree, and some college. Teacher aides work with or under a licensed teacher and give additional attention and instructions to students one-on-one or in a small group. Being a teacher aide is a good career because of the requirements, duties, and benefits. Being a teacher’s aide is a good career because of the requirements, duties, and benefits. “On average, teachers’ aides, classified under education aides, can expect to earn up to $799 per week ($41,599), depending on the organization they work for and their level of experience.” Earnings increases as the teacher aide experience increases. Teacher aides with zero to five years experience annual wages started at $13,168 in September 2015. For 10 to 20 years wages increased to almost $1,000, starting at $14,162 and increased even more after 20 years of experience. Some teacher aides working with special education students and ESL (English as a Second Language) command higher salaries. Being able to speak a foreign language can be beneficial in job advancement increasing the teacher’s aide wages. “Densely populated regions in the West and South have the most demand for teacher assistants.Therefore, wages may be higher due to greater demand for teacher assistants in these areas. Other factors to consider are school populations and types of school systems, such as public or private.” Teacher aides in elementary or secondary public schools annual wage starts at $26,140, in private schools the annual wage starts at $25,300. Child services teacher aides start at an annual wage of $21,990. One out of three assistants work part time, monitor students on school buses before and after school.
