Good morning everyone. Imagine arriving in a new country, eager to experience its culture and history, only to be greeted by images that barely scratch the surface of its richness. This is the reality for many tourists visiting Australia. My name is Tayla Warner and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to discuss an issue that I believe is crucial for the Australian Tourism Board to change, with you! As I prepared for this speech, I was reminded of a quote by Dr. Mae C. Jemison: "Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations.". This quote has motivated me to persuade you to help our world become a better place. Today, I will present my case for why I strongly believe that the Australian Tourism Board should change the images on their feed. By the end of this presentation, I aim to answer …show more content…
This is because The Tourism Board of Australia only publishes animals and landscapes to tourists, disregarding the display of the rich culture and history of our country. Still, we cannot solely condemn tourists for their absence of knowledge. Consider the image you're currently viewing: First Nations people holding a ceremony in Sydney. Unfortunately, similar images are frequently replaced with those of beaches or cute baby koalas resting. Put yourself in the shoes of a visitor, who just arrived in Australia for a vacation and was taking a leisurely walk on a beach. Would you feel disappointed if you discovered that there was so much history and significance in that very spot you're standing in, but all you knew about were the animals and popular photo spots? I bet you would too. For this reason, the Tourism Board of Australia should consider replacing their current images with those that showcase a diverse culture and heritage. While Australia’s Tourism Board may attract numerous tourists, they do so in a deceiving
A lot of tourists would not think that they are offending the native residents when they travel. In the article, “The Ugly Tourist” excerpt from Jamaica Kincaid’s book, Small Place, she argues that when one is in a state of being a tourist, one does not know the depth of the place and only sees what one wants to see. Kincaid gives a strong idea of what she is arguing when she described a tourist as “an ugly human being.” She presents the emotional conflicts between tourist and the natives by evaluating their different lifestyles.
Billie Holiday, or as her friends called her “Lady Day” was an African-American jazz singer who had a phenomenal voice. She was born April 7, 1915, in Philadelphia, PA. She was known for her trademark of wearing gardenias in her hair, and throwing back her head when she sang. In her late teenage years she was discovered by John Hammond and recorded her first record led by a studio group under Benny Goodman, who was a prominent figure in the entertainment business.
Hey, We are talking about a woman by the name of Bethany Hamilton , if you don't know who I'm talking about just listen and I will tell you.
“A tourist is an ugly human being. You are not an ugly person all the time; you are not an ugly person ordinarily; you are not an ugly person day to day.” These are the words that Jamaica Kincaid says about tourists. Kincaid believes that her opinion should be heard about how tourism ruins the cultural feel of different Throughout the essay Jamaica Kincaid inform and persuade the readers about tourism, Kincaid uses pathos and ethos to appeal to the audience, and how you can confirm the author’s argument.

Yaeger Summary Patricia Yaeger’s analysis of The Awakening by Kate Chopin reveals to the readers that Edna’s “emancipatory moments are contained in those unstable instances of self-questioning and dialogue with herself” (Yaeger 205), further leading to her eternal vocal and physical entrapment through the ocean. Yaeger thoroughly expresses this idea through her confliction of men’s speech versus women’s speech and how they differ vastly. As Yaeger explains, Edna feels as though she is trapped inside her own head and cannot express her true thoughts and desires to anyone, as no one would bother to listen.
Wilma Pearl Mankiller began her journey on this Earth on November 18, 1945 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She would go on to become the first female deputy chief of the Cherokee Nation in 1983 and the first female principal chief in 1987, until her retirement in 1995. In a speech she gave at Sweet Briar College on April 2, 1993 she sufficiently summed up the magnitude of being the first female chief of the second-largest tribe in the United States when she concluded by saying “Finally, I guess I'd like to say I hope my being here and spending a little time with you will help to erase any stereotypes you might have had about what a Chief looks like.” More than a political figure, Wilma Mankiller was a wife to Hugo Olaya from the time she was eighteen
To keep business simple, every speaker strives to be heard and they will do anything in order for their audience to listen. There are various ways in which the speaker would gain the right to be heard. Former Governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, uses assorted forms to obtain the attention of her audience as she addresses the Louisiana Legislator on Hurricane Katrina, where she not only discusses the effects of the hurricane but also acknowledges the people who have helped out so far.

We started this Government and Politics class with reading a speech from Barack Obama during his campaign for presidency in 2008 that was a response to comments made by the minister of the church his family has attended. Barack says, “It’s that he spoke as if our society was static; as if no progress had been made.” President Obama was regarding the state of the treatment of Black people in the United States. He took a stance that is present in many white people throughout the U.S., and one that I believe definitely needs to be acknowledged in the discussion over the treatment of Black Americans. But on the other hand, I truly believe that there is a problem with the treatment of Black Americans in our country, and to deny that would be a denial of various statistics. The combination of the huge amount of police discrimination towards black people (which leads to the various brutality cases) along with massive socioeconomic gap between White Americans and Black Americans are both major issues plaguing the United States that need a solution for the betterment of the nation. This is where my opinion comes in. I agree
Are Transgender athletes hurting College sport and its community In 1975, the landscape of gendered sports underwent a significant transformation with the emergence of Renee Richards, a professional tennis player who underwent gender reassignment surgery and subsequently competed in women's tennis. Richards's pioneering journey paved the way for future transgender athletes, sparking debates regarding fairness, inclusivity, and the integrity of competitive sports. One such athlete who has reignited these debates is Lia Thomas, an NCAA swimmer whose participation in women's collegiate swimming has ignited widespread controversy and raised fundamental questions about the intersection of gender identity and athletic competition. Lia Thomas is a
Investigating the Speed of Water Waves Introduction In this experiment I will be investigating the wave speed, of waves on water in a tray, and how this speed is affected. Waves can be longitudinal, when the particles move in the same direction as the direction of the wave, or it can be transverse, when the particles move at 90o to the direction of the wave. Water waves are transverse waves even though transverse waves cannot travel through liquid. This is because the waves travel on top of the water. Aim:
